The FBI has issued an urgent nation wide alert for eleven Egyptian students. The students entered the US last week but failed to show up for there classes at Montana State University. The students are now hear illegally and are to be approached with caution. This is of much concern in part because it is just one month from the 5 year anniversary of the Sept eleventh terror attacks in the US.

An FBI advisory says there are, at present, no known connections to any terrorist group but that the students are to be "approached with caution" and taken into custody. They "are here illegally and wanted for questioning," the advisory says.

The advisory comes just over a month before the five-year anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks on the United States.

"This is of very serious concern and is being closely tracked," said Rep. Peter King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

I first read this is sounded kind of scary to me. Perhaps masquerading as students is the latest way for terrorists to enter the US. The names and date of birth are on the source materiel. They range from 18 to early 20s. Which most terrorists are young men. As an individual about all any of us in the US can do is try to keep vigilant and call the authorities if you think you have something that might lead to the missing students.

FBI Alert, Egyptians Missing

My first thought was, "All of them?"

This is, of course, worrisome, but we can hope that there is a logical and benign explanation.

Every year, people from all over the globe travel to the US to study in our universities and, of course, we wouldn't want anyone accusing us of racial profiling, would we?

latest way to enter the US? umm, that's how most of the 9/11 terrorist entered the country, which is kind of disconcerting considering that the government claims to have learned from 9/11 and supposedly changed the system for student visas.

i know i'm gonna get hit for this one, but it just goes to show you that if you worry more about angering people for racial profiling than you do about protecting the country then this is the kind of thing that happens.

I really do hope that there is a benign explanation also Grady. But similar to the way Vahala put it, I have a bad feeling in my stomach about this.

So true...everybody can live through inconvenience...there's other things we can't live through.

And, I also have to say I didn't realize there was a university in Montana!

It may be a little to early too presume that anything has actually happened, other than a few students not showing up for class. Of course, we can all appreciate how much trouble a few suicidal fanatics can stir up in a very short period of time.

im so sick of the politically correct bs we NEED to racially profile. THERE IS ONLY ONE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO PRACTICE ONLY ONE RELIGION THAT ARE BOMBING US AND KILLING US!!!! if the muslim arabs get pissed that we search them more at airports they should freakin understand THERES NO ONE ELSE TRYING TO KILL US political correctness is weakness. you dont see asians trying to kill us, 99 percent of eauropeans dont try to kill us [richard reid being an exception], most africans who arent muslim arent trying to kill us, 99 percent of latinos [jose padilla being an exception] arent trying to kill us. and yes i realize 99 percent of arabs arent trying to kill us BUT 99 PERCENT OF THE ATTACKS ARE BY MUSLIM ARABS

There have been quite a few cases of exchange students promised, transportation from port of entry, host families and or lodging, expenses etc. by "companies" set up to help exchanges only to have them all but abandoned once they got here, sometimes at the airport itself. There were several cases like that in my area over the past year or so...so thats what I thought and unless I hear otherwise still consider a likely reason.

I saw this on CNN just now. I found it interesting that they said that as soon as a foreign student comes into the US to study now, thier activities are monitored whilst they are in the US. The government official on the news did not specify which students this would affect, his words indicated that ALL foriegn students would be monitored. I wonder if all foriegn students know this? I certainly would'nt want to study knowing i was being snooped on.

I can totaly understand the reason why, but i fear this will put a lot of people wanting to study in the US.

Hopefully there is a good reason for these guys going missing. People seem to be jumping on the panic bandwagon straight away which i don't think is right.

The news item also pointed out that some of the 9/11 hijackers went "missing" after coming to the US to study. I wonder if they were the ones that miraculously reappeared again after the event?

I wonder if these Egyptians have gone missing for a reason, maybe the goverment is ready for another big one and they have thier "culprits" now missing and loose in the US?

CX.

I did a couple of contracts in Missoula. That university is popular as it is inexpensive and easy to get into. I was told by locals that the rich and powerful often send their kids there when they can not get into other schools. The whole city revolves around it and they are fanatical about the sports end of things. Before every game the store windows fill up with booster stuff and if they win there is a big celebration at all the casino's and bars. I hired their star football player, a fourth year student, and had to let him go because he could not read. He was a communications major
Heck of a football player though.

HAHA
thought the same thing.....

I am surprised we actually have people watching these type of things now. Comforting with that, but 11 college students from Egypt missing all at once is very odd, they obviously have a plan for something. Hope it doesnt involve explosives.

Grady, considering the climate differences between Egypt and Montana and the fact that Montana has lots of great places to hide, I think it is a very legitimate concern.

Unless, of course, they're all going to become archaeologists and are going to Montana to dig for dinosaur bones.
