IMO , The American People lose regardless of who wins.

Trump or Biden. Do you want to get punched in the face or in the gut?

One is a snake oil salesman hiding in the form of the school bully role playing as the President.
The other is 3 years out from being 80 with questions about his possible failing mental capabilities.

How anyone can honestly think that either candidate is a good or more importantly the right leader to turn this country around is beyond me.

Actually I couldn't read the article. First I had to disable adblocker, so I did that, then it told me it was subscriber content only. I'm not subscribing to an oregon news source.

So at least you admit you didn't read it.
Thanks
It was chock full of people in Portland advocating actually abolishing the police.
You know, what you claim doesn't exist.

The link from TKDRL worked for me, thank you.

It was chock full of a movement that has been going on for decades ("since the tough on crime policies of the 80's and 90's"). It's groups of people who feel marginalized and have no real power. The abolitionist movement is a pipe dream.

In Oregon, the political tide has shifted swiftly toward reforms since the death of George Floyd. No mainstream politician in Portland or in the State Capitol has endorsed total abolition.

I mean notice the title, "the local abolitionist movement". It's nothing more than underserved, peresecuted, people wanting change.

The police aren't being abolished, it's clickbait.

No intelligent law-abiding-citizen thinks that defunding the police means abolishing the police.

I will leave your gem here.
Those people quoted seem intelligent and law abiding no matter how you backpeddle.

There are ALOT of actual people that want to abolish the police.
They are on the left.

There are a lot (that's two words by the way) of actual people who do not understand what abolish means.

They are on all "sides".

Also it's backpedal, not backpeddle.

I come with the grammar nazi style because the words used are important in this topic and many get it wrong.

Have a good night. This conversation will go nowhere as all do here who are in disagreement.

I do. It's right up there a few times said by me. Anyone saying abolish (in the true definition of that word) doesn't know what they are talking about and therefore uninformed or, as said, not intelligent enough to understand the subject matter.

Again, I'm done.

I'm cynical and observant enough to know only two things
about evil; and even that's a present-day paraphrase from
some other, much wiser old guy...
"All that will destroy evil is a greater evil.
Therefore evil always wins. Cool"

The Democratic National Committee was co-opted in the
last presidential cycle by a group of people who actually
were drunk on their own Kool-Aid: and too soon to make
the crucial difference in the flyover states-- not to mention
a couple of swings.
/r
That's been fixed this time, and the fix is in. There is enough
non-coverage of Grand Theft Ballot, and in Brobdingnag -level
proportions that will allow maybe an expected Trump 10.0
Richter Red Tsunami to be drowned with corrupt fakes. I'm not
looking forward to the political fallout from the level of crimi-
nal behavior necessary to pull it off--- but after Hilz won even
the Popular vote in '16 I consider ANYTHING to be possible.

The reason they'll get away with it is because there aren't even
enough of us to agree that whatever human leftovers get thrown
out there for us to vote on are truly worse idiots than us.

I don't fear for the republic anymore, because it's been getting
tagged (and treated by lawless thugs) as a democracy for over
thirty years. And with the thugs' horde counting the votes, I'm
glad this is the last election of my life as well as the El Biggo.

I knew where we were ten minutes after Jack's brain got spread
out over Dealey Plaza, and I was barely 12. All that's happened
ever since has been some low-level demon crankin up the heat
once in a while. r/ You want spies with that?

I think the democrats have shot themselves in the foot by scaring people with COVID to the point they don't want to stand in a voting line for more than 10 minutes... their enthusiasm for Biden and they hatred of Trump aren't enough to overcome their paranoia of dying.

So now the Democrats who were depending on vote by mail find out they can't put the ballots in regular mail in some states, and the Democratic Party is telling them to take the ballots to polling locations... when hundreds of other people are waiting in lines, and the term 'super spreader event' is fresh in their minds.

So I think the paranoia of pandemic combined with an internal introspection that their lives haven't been *that* bad for the last 4 years will lead to lower Democrat voter turnout.

Meanwhile the Republican/Conservative voters aren't as scared of 'teh covidz'

We'll just have to wait and see.

Here in Texas plenty got out, stood in line (about 30-40 min for me), and voted early. I think you might be underestimating the power of hate.

Oh really?

www.oregonlive.com...

Calls to defund and break up police departments across the nation have gained steam in the week since the Minneapolis City Council pledged to disband its police department after the police killing of George Floyd.

Seems a lot of people disagree with you.

Yep - democrats tried to water down their demands when they realised how badly it played for them.. . now they claim they never meant it.

It's stopped being about "what the people want" a long time ago.

They will give us the government they want us to have.

And Biden will probably be the figurehead for the Democrat Socialist Committee Party.
