Greenland will be an ideal strategic location for when we invade Canada...
n reality, the camp served as cover for something altogether different - a project so immense and so secret that not even the Danish government was informed of its existence. “They thought it would never be exposed,” said Colgan. “Back then, in the 60s, the term global warming had not even been coined. But the climate is changing, and the question now is whether what’s down there is going to stay down there.”

Love this thread, made my morning and made me crack up for a while now.
Buy Greenland. lol
I think someone is going to get in trouble for leaking those insane private conversations with Trump and giving us an inside look into the mind of a megalomaniac. The leaker just made him look like a fool.

Greenland has the highest suicide rate in the world. High rates of alcoholism, no jobs. We tried to buy it a couple of times but they would rather be poor sickly socialists I guess fishing and freezing their butts off.

Okay. That makes sense. Underwater drilling.
Greenland sits atop the Greenland plate, a subplate of the North American plate.[1][2] The Greenland craton is made up of some of the oldest rocks on the face of the earth. The Isua greenstone belt in southwestern Greenland contains the oldest known rocks on Earth, dated at 3.7–3.8 billion years old.[3]
Soil material at the base of an ice core from Greenland, indicates the ice sheet overlies an ancient tundra landscape, similar to the tundra that currently exists in the Arctic.
The melt is undermining the hunting livelihoods of indigenous peoples and threatening polar bears and other creatures. But the changes may also make the Arctic more accessible to shipping, mining and oil and gas exploration. The region is estimated to hold about a quarter of the world’s undiscovered oil and gas reserves.

The places the US bought are much better off than before the purchase from a human quality of life standpoint. Protection, rule of law, balancing of environmental effects with regulations. It's not even close the positive impacts on lives as opposed to not messing with natural resources. It's never going to be perfect but the suicide rates and alcoholism go way down when the economy gets a shot in the arm. It's never going to improve in the current state.

In fairness to the Greenlanders, it's pretty hard to build an economy with nothing but ice, rocks, and walrus poop. I mean, their national flower is probably a lichen or something.
The new research, supported by funding from the National Science Foundation, shows that "the soil had been stable and exposed at the surface for somewhere between 200,000 and one million years before being covered by ice," notes Ben Crosby, a member of the research team from Idaho State University.
To help interpret these unexpected findings, the team also measured nitrogen and carbon that could have been left by plant material in the core sample. "The fact that measurable amounts of organic material were found in the silty ice indicates that soil must have been present under the ice," said co-author Andrea Lini at the University of Vermont -- and its composition suggests that the pre-glacial landscape may have been a partially forested tundra
. "Greenland really was green! However, it was millions of years ago," said Rood, "Greenland looked like the green Alaskan tundra, before it was covered by the second largest body of ice on Earth." To confirm their findings about this ancient landscape, the researchers also measured beryllium levels in a modern permafrost tundra soil on the North Slope of Alaska. "The values were very similar," said Bierman, "which made us more confident that what we found under Greenland was tundra soil."

Also, there is a lot of debate about how maps are drawn and Greenland is one of the most misrepresented land masses in the world.
not really.
While it looks to be about 3-3.5x the size of Alaska it's only about 10% larger.
Alaska has a land area of 1,477,953 sq km. Greenland has 2,166,086 sq km of land. quite a bit more than 10%, maybe 45% larger? i am not working it out lol so in short the maps and scales are pretty spot on.
