He is a devout Muslim that's for sure... Ant-west cultural rhetoric was all over his FB page.

I guess you should edit your post that has the source with images of the hijacker. And also the poster that put it in his post for reference should edit it out too.

I don't trust egyptian officals to tell the truth.

It is in their best interest to minimize hijacking fears and downplay any terror aspect that might be present.

It seems like their main priority is reputation damage control.

Well it is still unclear, I believe it's too early to jump to conclusions.

He declined to confirm an earlier report from Egyptian government spokesman Hossam al-Queish that identified the hijacker as Ibrahim Samaha.

"He" is Egypt's Minister of Civil Aviation Sherif Fathy Ateyya.

It's probably fair to say that this is not IS. They don't have a habit of releasing anyone, they're sick in the head and have one goal to murder and maim as many as possible. If this were IS related he would have destroyed that plane in the air.

Although, the point about Egypt needing to play down any incidents is absolutely true and they can't be trusted. Their tourism industry is in tatters right now, they cannot afford to have any terrorist incidents - but can anyone?

It seems to be over. The Cyprus government says the guy is arrested.

Just a few minutes ago there were reports that five people left the plane, one climbed out of the window.

Edit to add: Funny, I forgot that a screen made out of glass is not allowed on ATS.
