Can't figure out the image system on this site, but the article linked says that a soldier recent reassigned to Afghanistan went to go to breakfast and found the mess hall close 'due to budget cuts' on the same day that Congress gave themselves a pay increase.

scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net...

Would anyone know what base this might be?

It seems that the only thing Congress can agree on is giving themselves more money. Is there such a thing as electoral socialism?

"When the [elected] find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."
- paraphrased from Benjamin Franklin.

Decades ago when I was in the military the messes at small bases had set times for meals - usually a block of 2-3 hours - you miss that time you don't eat that meal.

so IMO the answer to your question is:

No.

We had the same thing at the Navy bases I was at. But I never saw a sign saying it was closed 'due to budget cuts'.

This is one of many, many reasons we MUST vote out EVERY sitting politician in washington. These lying, treasonist, scumbags are screwing us with OUR money and powergrabing. The next revolution needs to be at the voting booth, if that fails.....well, we know who to look for on the way to 1600....

Maybe the military leaders should stop acting as COWARDS.. they do act as cowards daily.

Afghanistan had nothing to do with 9/11..

The ELITES are the enemy the military leaders should be going after.

Who are the ELites? every billionaire!

Nope, instead, the military cowardly goes to war against the afghan people.. total cowards!

I find that highly unlikely.

I've been stationed in 4 different FOBs in Afghanistan in the last 6 and a half months and have not "gone hungry".

Many FOBs are closing down and sometimes that means that DFACs(Dining Facilities) have to cut back which meals they serve.

In Camp Dwyer we had MREs and T-Rats were served at the DFAC.

Tarin Kowt is closed down and they went down to MREs and whatever extra could be flown in.

The story is true across Afghanistan. It isn't budget cuts and none of us are going hungry.

That said any time congress votes themselves a raise I die a little inside.

Ya that last one worked well.. He who votes decides nothing, he who counts the votes decides everything... Remember that cause it is true..
