Reminds me of this video which has always fascinated me: (skip to 4:32)

This story made me think this is what happens when those yellow things it's "releasing" drop to the ground.

It appears this phenomenon has been known to occur after meteor showers for a long time.

Interesting.

It's kinda pretty if you ask me. It could be star jelly that interacted with all the plastic in the air from the smokestacks and polution

Looks like some kind of mushroom to me.

I second that notion. Definitely a fungus. Eat it and you will be put into telepathic communication with the visitors from outer space.

The old adage

comes to mind here.

Seriously?

Let me break open this "alien" egg and proceed to inhale its contents, it is obviously the most rational thing for me to do.

Somebody quarantine this man before it spreads.

I found a photo at: www.flickr.com...
But I need permission from the owner so I can not show it as I don't have time to mess with this .

The one I refer to Looks almost EXactly like what you have posted and it is the Fuligo septica
allready mentioned by another poster.

Please have a look at it. You will probably agree that it is more than likely the
"Dog Vomit Slime Mold"- Fuligo septica

Yes, again, I agree it's probably the mold.

I don't think they're exactly the same, though. The news source's pic isn't that detailed, but the 'furs' are more 'stuffed animal-like'. Dog vomit fungi seem to have lots of small bunches of the 'hair'. I'm also yet to see info about the brown insides of the fungi turning yellow once revealed (though if there is any info on that, I'll be immediately convinced that it's the thing!)

It could actually be some kind of fungus...but it also looks like some burnt yellow rice that you'd see out by a dumpster behind a fast-food restaurant.

Regardless of what it really is, there is always some chef out there willing to cook up a good story for us!

This was the first thing that came to my mind too.
We'd sometimes get a crop in the summer around the heavily mulched rose bushes.
We called it the creeping crud!
