so thats what peeps look like on the inside.

It is some kind of mulch fungus / slime mold. There are similar photographs:

www.ktrh.com...

This stuff actually lives on the inside of bark and in roots getting energy from minerals rather than sunlight (perfect lifestyle for something that could live inside asteroids).

I found a photo at: www.flickr.com...
But I need permission from the owner so I can not show it as I don't have time to mess with this .

The one I refer to Looks almost EXactly like what you have posted and it is the Fuligo septica
allready mentioned by another poster.

Please have a look at it. You will probably agree that it is more than likely the
"Dog Vomit Slime Mold"- Fuligo septica

This?

The interesting thing is that when there have been reports of meteors (or as some claimed UFO's) falling into the ocean, investigators would arrive on the scene to find yellow-orangish foam floating on the sea surface with a sulphurous smell. Anyone who touched the stuff would get caustic burns on their hands.
