Ironic, huh?

A town that has been rocked in recent months because of "gun violence".

Applications for gun permits have jumped in Newtown since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, which sparked a renewed debate about stricter gun control laws and a surge in gun sales around the country due to worries about new limits. Newtown in recent years has issued about 130 gun permits annually. Police say the town received 79 permit applications in the three months since the Dec. 14 massacre, well over double the normal pace. "A good percentage of people are making it clear they think their rights are going to be taken away," said Robert Berkins, records manager for Newtown police.

Obviously gun sales in America have skyrocketed ever since Obama took over, but some would not have expected this in Newtown, Conn.

Even people living there realize they still have a right to defend themselves, good for them.

The US constitution is the only gun permit any Amerikan needs shame some people think they have to ask goverment's permission to own a firearm.

Not surprising that some politicians believe their own press, and reality has always been different.

Sorry, what the hell is a "gun permit"?
The right to bear arms is inalienable.

We all have been remiss in the exercise of our rights.

I don't know about ironic. I'd think logical, actually. Of all the people in the country, they are among the most painfully aware of how easily one mental menace can change or take lives on a whim. I'd wonder if they were covering numbers and hiding records if it didn't show an increase to some degree. Shooting certainly isn't unknown up there either.

When Asktheanimals had run a thread on the topic, I'd put a bit of real time into looking at everything for real, since the thread was a serious one for a change. I'd found two rather lage gun ranges real close...and very well used judging by the Google Street "drive-by" I did by them both. The community isn't a stranger to the 2nd. Just seeing it used that way, of course.

Couldn't have said that any better myself.

It's a RIGHT. Should be all we need.

I'm willing to wager that for every Newton resident who applied for a gun permit, three Newton residents just went out and bought a weapon.

This whole thing about banning guns is like saying Big Brother is going to ban salt from the ocean.

It is nearly shameful that the citizens of this town have allowed the killings there to become the lever the obama administration is using to remove 2nd amendment rights from the country. Just shows that many people ther are intelligent enough to know that guns aren't the problem they are the solution.

The school board is trying to cover their butts from lawsuits for failing to have adequate security measures in place at the school.

Just like Wayne LaPierre said, get somebody in there to protect the children. Schools all across the nation have been using armed School Resource Officers for a long time. It's like a community organizer...only doing a real job instead of running for political office.

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS......... 24l9.992.6798.0.11356.

With the ban seeming listless in Congress, the gun industry is left with surging demand for its products–it increased immediately after President Obama’s reelection, then reached even loftier levels after speculation that the government would create restrictive legislation. Gun sales, as measured by FBI background checks, rose 19% in 2012 to nearly 19.6 million. Sales in December alone–the month in which the Sandy Hook massacre occurred–nearly doubled to 2.8 million

What the socialists don't tell you is that Hugo Chavez is flooding the Western Hemisphere with Kalashnikovs..

Venezuela: Standard issue weapon of the Venezuelan Army. A manufacturing plant to produce the AK-103 in Maracay is operational, and it produces up to 50,000 units per year
