I'm watching this RT news channel and they are saying that it WAS a meteorite. Right now they're talking about the Japan-China island dispute, but earlier they said pieces of the meteor have already been found. The little ticker at the bottom of the screen is saying more than 100 people have been injured as a result of the blast.

Mountain Home Air Force Base just went on alert and scrambled the fighters.

I heard of another base doing the same.

Anyone hear similar?

MOSCOW, February 15 (RIA Novosti) – A meteorite shower has hit three regions of Russia, and Kazakhstan, Russian Emergencies Ministry officials confirmed on Friday morning. In one affected Russian region, Chelyabinsk, the authorities have received numerous calls reporting injuries received as a result of the meteorite shower, and 20,000 emergency response workers have been mobilized.

RIA

20000 emergency response workers? What the heck...wither RIA is off the mark or it's a little more serious than is being let on.

ETA: And was it an intercept or wasn't it? Sources conflicting...

I think they are too big for space junk but it is hard to judge the distance which makes it impossible to tell the size. It looked like one skimmed the atmosphere and headed back into space but they were moving super-fast.

I haven't seen or heard anything more out of the sky here in Utah, so far.

I guess I am having trouble understanding xactly when this happened because of time zones, but I have been watching the earthquake swarm in Russia that started yesterday with the 6.6- could these events be related somehow?

Yes, in Idaho.

A friend's husband who works at Joint Base Lewis-McChord just got called in too.

Precautionary measures & standard procedure I'm hoping.
