your estimation of various countries is somewhat subjective - the uk is extroverted? some of us are quite reserved old chap!

where are you from? from the pop figures it's gotta be belgium or portugal i guess, didnt look up the domestic events you mention as i am supposed to be working. i only ask so i can make some blanket assumptions about your home too (joking, it's good to have a thick skin here so i may as well start you off nice and early)

Actually it proves a point quite well. If gun bans made one safer, than those US cities without gunbans should be more violent, yet we see that those cities with the most gun bans are the most violent consistently. You say" maybe they had higher crimes and murders before the laws came in" but that really concedes the point that gun bans are not the solution and that there are other factors at play.

That argument would only stand if at city/state borders there were gun checks for anyone entering the city/state - that isn't the case is it.

So all of those drugs and illegal aliens coming from Mexico do not really exist because we have border check

Which is exactly why I say the US government should allow already owned guns, ban the selling of guns and destroy guns when they can (confiscated guns etc.). When things are on par with the UK (an example) then bring in much stricter gun laws. Things will slowly get better, in time. That's better than just standing there rambling about freedom and the constitution while things get worse under the illusion that citizens owning 270,000,000 guns is a good thing and it's some kind of liberty. That's what's happening right now whether you acknowledge it or not.

Belgium.

To clarify: i mostly based my estimations of culture on the behavior and mannerisms of those between ages 15 and 25 (the group from which the majority of criminals originate) and on the behavior portrayed in the media (what is considered socially acceptable behavior).

Also, you can say whatever you want about Belgium, the country is a complete mess on the verge of becoming a brutal socialist dictatorship where everything is either banned or heavily taxed... unless you're a criminal or a politician.

The UK spilt plenty of its own blood in the more than 2 years of war with Nazi Germany before Germany declared war on the US on 11th December 1941 so don't go all condescending on us.

Are you trying to imply the UK is not part of the civilised world? Are you trying to suggest world war 2 was a fight against a UK based tyrannical government? If not, what point does it make in relation to this thread?

You focused on the wrong part, I was saying that you're deluded in thinking an armed citizenry will/would/does make any difference. So gun ownership, or lack of gun ownership, is really a moot point when considered as a potential deterrent to mass control of a populace. I thought I had made that very clear in my post.

Don't worry, we are all guilty of it. For instance I always assume that whenever there is any sniff of a cross North Atlantic pissing contest then some bright spark will mention WW2.
Thanks for the imput. I've actually been to all the strategic beaches and cemeteries in Normandy already.
Perhaps I'll go to North Africa and Burma where my Grandad served and his twin died a horrible flamey death so I can be the typical British humoured jokey git, but not before I go Poland this summer eh!

It's really quite bizarre. People sacrificed themselves so that we could live in a world without fear. It would seem that has since been thrown out of the window in favour of embracing it/constantly living in it. That seem's like the ultimate insult to their memory.
