Just because I support some functions that the government provides does not mean that I support them all. Sadly, you have taken it to the extreme and believe that I support all that you described. I do not.

It's unfortunate that we are not able to recognize that not all government services are bad and that some people absolutely insist on an "all or nothing" attitude when it comes to the government.

If you continue to go down the same path, if you continue to alienate people with religious mantra, party rhetoric and outright propaganda, you will lose again.
If you continue to push an agenda that favors the few at the expense of the many, you will lose again.
If you continue to refuse to compromise and be open to ideologies other than your own, you will lose again.
If you don’t learn to check your religion at the door, you will lose again.
If you don’t take the time to learn the value of a diverse nation, you will lose again.

The overall point is that if you learn nothing from this defeat and continue to travel the same road that has been traveled since 2000, our party will become a relic of olden times.

Please don’t go down this road! I beg of you! Let’s work together to champion the conservative ideals that we are supposed to stand for, not the emotional zealots and bigots we have easily become.

Please do not go where I cannot follow

Yep.

You don't need a new candidate or a new mascot...you need NEW IDEAS AND VALUES.

oh c'mon...all the GOP needs for 2016 is a brown face and a last name ending with an "O"...their old ideas and values are just fine for me, best voter suppression around.

No. They need ideas. The last big idea the GOP had was when Eisenhower gave us the interstate highway system.

The same-old same-old "cut taxes" mantra doesn't work anymore. It's old, it's lame, and it doesn't reflect the beliefs of the citizenry. And you can't run on values. Running on a "moral" platform will become a theocracy. It's inevitable. Is that what you want?

I think Sheepslayer needs to come over the Dark Side or at least the Neutral Zone. The GOP doesn't believe in "sane", "rational", and "pragmatic."

Outstanding post sheepslayer, You summarized my problem with the republican party quite logically. I enjoyed the read, and for your sake and the parties I hope they listen. I'm unaffiliated by the way.

Yeah and just how you put it, I'm sure the republican party, which is full of bigots and racists at the highest level, would make it O so believable. But go ahead I need a laugh, actually bring Sarah Palin back too, she'd make an AMAZING VP.

So it's either Marco Rubio or a well tanned and newly re-christened Jeb Bushio in 2016, huh?

Or maybe both! Together on a ticket?

But, I still think Jon Huntsman is still the frontrunner for now.

Knowing Republicans...I'm betting they go double-down on what has previously failed. Look for a Santorum/Palin ticket or possibly David Duke/Todd Akin in 2016.

That sounds about right! If that is the case, maybe Hunstman leaves the party and gives mainstream support to a 3rd party? Maybe he takes the Tea-Partier Rubio with him?
That is probably a pipe dream, but can you imagine a Huntsman/Rubio 2016 on a 3rd party ticket!

I'm really not a big a fan of either one of them. Rubio isn't the worst...but realistically other than Ron Paul I cannot name a single Republican that I think is qualified, capable, and sane. By virtue of sheer numbers there MUST be one out there somewhere...but I can't think of one. The Republican party is dead and buried. It's very existence at this point depends upon finding more angry, racist, xenophobic white, baby boomer males and their obedient wives who will vote against their own conscience because their husbands told them to. Quite simply...the species is on it's way to extinction.

There is no plea to the Republican party. If the GOP wanted to win this election, they would have selected Ron Paul as their candidate.

I have already joined the Dark Side. In another thread I authored a while back, I "came out of the closet" as being a liberal conservative, capitalist-socialist.

Although I am a registered Republican, due to my conservative ideals, I still have no problem straying away from the accepted "norm" of my party. In fact, I like to stretch the limits of what it means to be a Republican/conservative.

I guess you could say that I am a Libertarian, but I also see the value in what government can do in the right hands.

Meh.

Actually...I would like to see a Johnson/Stein ticket in an effort to prove that the Right and Left CAN work together so long as they aren't part of a political crime syndicate. Plus...both Johnson and Steins real thunder only came in the last days of the election as RP overshadowed it earlier. I think both candidates can run again and still be "fresh" options.

Ok my fellow Republicans, it’s time to sit down with a strong cup of coffee and have a chat.

I’m sure most of you know of those soccer games in which there is no score taken so the kids can feel good about themselves. Fast forward a few years later and it’s these kids that are crying on the sidelines after they lost their first real match.

That is how you are acting! I wake up this morn and turn on Fox to see the reactions…..and it’s a sobbing boo hoo fest. I l click on ATS to read up on things and it’s the same thing.

Republicans are telling me how the country has gone to crap and we are not exceptional people all because Romney was whooped in the election. One thread is asking why there are not any riots and another claiming it’s the death of capitalism, opening the door wide-open for the socialist Red’s to take over America.

The best thing we can do is pick ourselves up off the floor, dust off the defeat and work towards the next election.

But this is where it gets real important…….

I think it is safe to say that this is our last chance to open our party to different ideas and ideologies. Otherwise…stick a fork in it…it’s done!

How we move forward from here is up to you. There is a quote from the Lord of the Rings that fits this situation very well and sums up my thoughts on the future of the GOP.

Thank you for mentioning the "fair and balanced" point of view that all have been looking for. On that note, in the world today, with the speed of information that is possible, it is not just a matter of reforming the view of the right or left, but reforming the methods by which people form their point of view. That means examining media and education. These also have to work with politicians to ensure a society with liberty and justice at their foundation. This forum is an example of how things have changed about information sources. It's not that this or any other free forum must be regulated, but that mass media and education must account for this when speaking on behalf of all, just as this free forum environment has accounted for those in mass media.
