Haha, do you want to borrow a ruler? Hehe. I'm sure you could do it. It kind of just came naturaly to me but to learn something does take a certain amount of perseverance.

Thanks for taking time to look.

Nice work!
I like your sense of design and how you are exploring many different styles.
Funny you should mention Mayan art as I thought it would make an interesting challenge for you to work in that style.

I recognize the lion face as David -somebody, I think.
Thanks for sharing, you have talent for sure.
If I may suggest doing something much smaller and see how much detail you can add in.
Once you start exploring carving textures things get really crazy, exasperating and rewarding.

I did start by doing staffs and sticks, but yeah I think you are right, maybe I should do some book ends or Door stops. I only started doing these bigger ones a few months ago. It is rewarding as is anything creative. Thanks for the input.

Those are very nice. Thanks for sharing. I like wood carvings. I'm curious how you do them -- a hammer and chisel, sand paper, files?

Those are pretty cool.

What brand are the tools you use?

I've been looking into trying my hand at this but still doing my homework on what brand of tools I should invest in. Had found a few good reviews on amazon but haven't really met anyone that has experience in this field.

Thanks lost my marbles.

Marples would be a good brand, with the red and amber handles. I'm just using cheap chissels at the moment but keeping them nice and sharp. I need to get a whittling set really.

Hammer chissels and a little sandpaper. I used a little wood dye to make the carvings stand out abit more.

Thanks komonazmuk, I'm trying to get enough peices together to build a little business,so if it takes off I'll have to get something up and running online. My daughter has made up the Facebook page, I'm not a FB user either lol.

I don't really have a favourite, I've not been doing it long enough, I've only used oak with the chissels, and I carved some staffs out of ivy with a box cutter.
