The craziness that goes on the youth today is disturbing to say the least. The Parents need to be Parents, to those that refuse to protect there Kids, cant worry about it.

Here is another story I just came across about a Freshman boy in North Dakota who walked into his class this morning, apologized to the class and then shot himself... Just craziness...

Exactly! I blame a lot of the blame on her parents.

Her parents wouldn't know the first thing to say to her I bet, else they would have stopped it a long time ago. Parents are pretty bad these days wouldn't you agree? Seems like it's one big agenda, and the dominos are falling and it's almost at the end of the line.

Yep, the Parental guidance is not strong with this generation. Why did you think they labeled them X, Y, and ????

On a Conspiracy note just to keep the thread in ATS.

Parents are not bad these days we simply have stopped letting kids be kids. These days two kids can't even have a fist fight without being arrested and charged with something. Im not saying we should let them fight without any punishment but do we really need to constantly call the cops on the kids? I mean kids get child porn charges for sexting now. If things are like the way they are now back when I was a kid I would have spent much more of my young adult life in juvenile hall. These days kids have to keep it all bottled up until one day-BOOM

Gen Y? That stuff makes no sense children are born all the time all year round, the idea of breaking them up into separate generations is just some false division

Ok....I understand the notion of "breaking up people in" whatever you said but considering that Generations used to span 20 or 30 years ago but the Media all of a sudden changed it to 5 to 10 years (Gen X, Gen Y, Gen??) is legit?? NOOO???

That's funny because "kids get to be kids" more now days than back in the past. I remember getting the belt if I fidgeted in church and would never dare think to speak to an adult the way kids do today. parents are way more lenient today then they ever were. It used to be children should be seen and not heard and most kids were made to work at very young ages.I am a gen X'er but had older relatives who had that mind frame when it came to children.
Now if you mean kids getting

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. Fact of the matter is NOBODY knows what this girls home life was like unless you were close to her or her family.Assuming, which is what you are doing, that her parents were alcoholics is non sense. Gee,it couldn't be that a couple of white knights of the Internet who like this girl(for some reason) made stuff up? No,couldn't possibly be that.

The notion of accelerating a culture by "Generations" seems to fit in this equation for Social Media. Generation X Some Sort of Respect. Gen Y Not so much. Gen (assume Z) not at all.

It is a sad story, and this girl should have sought help. Parents, teachers, or even a therapist. Everyone and their mother has been affected by bullying, engaged in it themselves, been a victim of it, or may have witnessed it in some way shape or form in their lives. The internet has its pros and cons. However, should we blame it as the culprit as to why this young lady decided to end her life? I do not think so. All those sadists, narcissists, sociopaths, and blatant scum have just been given the victory they have wanted by this girl taking her life. Had she persevered, talked with people that cared for her and loved her, and just plain ignored the bullies? She would still be here, and this experience would have been just another bump in the road. They start showing their ugly head in highschool, and only get more frequent as we get older. However, those bumps in the road build character, and teach us how to manage periods of crisis. What does not kill you makes you stronger!

If only someone could have gotten through to her a little sooner, and explained the ins and outs of highschool? Highschool is temporary, and people move on. The world gets so much bigger afterwards. She could have gone off to school somewhere, moved to another town, joined the military, or done whatever she wanted to do. She made a few mistakes, and it is certainly not the end of the world. It is sad that she chose to end her's.

I think parents should think long and hard about purchasing that laptop for their kid, or setting up that deskstop in their kid's room, or even getting that smartphone with all the bells and whistles. I do not think kids should be barred from using the internet, but access should be monitored by parents in anyway they can. Examples could be keeping the computer in a centralized location like the living room or other areas in the home where people frequent. If you want to use the internet, great! I will log you in. Just know, there are people in the room with you, and prying eyes will be peering over your shoulder. Another idea could be, no smartphones or handheld devices that allow access to the internet. Then, most importantly, sit with their son or daughter and teach them the pros and cons of the internet, and the simple do's and don'ts when it comes to etiquette.

I am sad that this girl took her life, and feel terrible about what her immediate family may be feeling right now. However, what she went through is no different than what many others have gone though, and they have lived to talk about it. The world is full of hyenas, and they will nag and harass as much as possible. Be a lion!

I said a few posts back that I wasn't 100% sure if it was real or no, I just wanted people to look at the angle of lack of parental support and involvement.

What if it is true how would it have played a role, and if it isn't true how on earth did it get this far?

Friends, ATSers, countrymen, lend me your ears; this is just another obvious attempt to pull at the heart strings of americans and parents. An attempt to vilify the internet and to blame it for the death of a young woman. We already have people stating that some actions should be brought against those who leave distasteful remarks on the memorial web page.
Do not give in, the world can be a cruel and ugly place but asking for further regulation on the internet will not make people stop killing themselves nor will it change anything besides limiting your freedom.

I agree with you on that subject matter. I wasn't talking about that though, I was thinking more a long the lines that it's the parents responbility to teach their child the inner workings of the World and why people do the things they do and to make sure their children makes the right choices while teaching them to achknowledge but their own ego. Sure, it may be a tough subject to teach a teenager because I remember as a teenager I didn't understand any of these things the way I do now but nobody said being a parent would be an easy task.
