Sincere Congratulations to Patrick for a well deserved win !!

That was a tough topic to debate.

I did a *facepalm* when he quoted Prince Charles as an authority. He might as well have used a quote from Al Gore.

Keeping this one for prosterity !!

Thanks you, sir. It was a fun match

I see this as a win for humanity

My last 3 debates have now gone to tie-breaker, it's awesome to be a part of such close matches.

I'm still looking for a first debate and would like to propose to anyone willing to take me on.

- Consumerism is taught or a natural human desire

- More importance is placed on consumerism than important morals and values

- Practical learning is more beneficial than theoretical learning

- Individual student tests in schools is a poor measure of a students knowledge

Feel free to take pro or con on either of the topics and PM, or post in here if you are interested. I do check this thread regularly.

I'll take the con position on

Consumerism is taught or a natural human desire

That sounds interesting. You can open it as soon as it gets approved!

Grats to SonoftheSun on his win!

This epitomizes the challenge of the Persuasion Debate -- I think I could have very effectively countered SotS's points if I was able to respond, but without that opportunity, my semi-off topic approach, trying to relate that fictional situation to real life, was apparently lacking. Lesson learned

This epitomizes the challenge of the Persuasion Debate

I found that a persuation match is much more difficult than a regular debate. Not knowing what your adversary will come out with is really challenging. I think it forces us to try to anticipate what that could be while trying to make the most out of 5000 characters only. And then again, the judges have very little to work with.

I enjoyed having this kind of match with you, Adjensen, but really look forward to the day where we have a full on debate!

Question, sorry if it's been asked.

On the fighter standings, if the 1 participation point added to the win for a total of 4 points for a win. Or is it a total of 3 for the win?

I have 10 points and I'm not sure if I'm getting 4+4+1+1 for my four judged debates, or 3+3+1+1+1+1 for 4 judged debates and two unjudged.

Its 4 for each won one currently. If I made a mistake, notify me.

Sorry for the delay, Spike -- I had a bunch of "urgent" (by their definition, lol) tickets come in this morning from work and I had to whiz away the day working on fixes. First post in our journalism debate is up!

The Atheism Debate and the Animation Debate will take a little longer because their judgments are currently TIED and require a tie-breaking judge. Thank you for your patience fighters.

Well, on the plus side, that would indicate that after three shutouts in a row, I finally convinced ONE person to agree with me

We all have dry spells. For instance, Ive participated in 3 or 4 Debate Tournaments on ATS and havent won a single one. Got kicked out in the finals in the last one.

Nobody is going to even come close to touching your second place way up there.

Jeeez...the Judgments were almost as long as the Debate. Needed two posts for the Judgments in the Animation Debate.

And the winner is....
