Thank you so much! There is a strange story behind that photo.

While shooting photo's of dozens of Bald Eagles in Homer, Alaska, I had an encounter with that particular bird.

He flew out to a pier offshore and watched me for a while. Then he flew right up to me and landed on the ground about five feet away. He then started picking up sticks off the shore and tossing them in the air like a dog trying to get me to play. He stayed and entertained me for about ten minutes. Never seen anything like that before or since.

Looks like I have lots of reading to do, so I'll just say thank you to everyone at once here and again publicly thank the staff at ATS for the invitation and trust.

There's actually a pretty rigorous selection process. First you need approval of the entire staff. Secondly, there's a whole trial of physicals, psychiatric evaluations, probings, rituals, etc..

All even before we tell you what we want.

And if you come out of that ok...well they usually just accept out of pure shock

This is deeply saddening news. Kandinsky, Blaine and davespanners are among my favourite ATS members. I shall sorely miss their contributions – Kandinsky's wisdom and equanimity, Blaine's knowledge and passion, Dave's pragmatism and humour – to our intellectual community.

They didn't die ya know!

In fact I offer all members this challenge. If any of these guys stop participating on the boards- feel free to U2U them and complain to them about it! There is no excuse for them to fall off of the boards or to stop being who they are! Sure, they might slow down a little - as moderating can get time consuming at times... but these folks are still part of ATS and they are all part of what makes ATS the best!

There's the bar... now hold 'em to it!
