George Zimmerman, made famous after murdering an unarmed teenager in Florida, is claiming he is broke and needs the public to pay for his legal fees. All of this comes after he received over 250,000 dollars in donations and lied to the court about it, while telling his wife to move the funds around in code.

Murder suspect George Zimmerman, whose plight prompted thousands of well-wishers to donate a flood of money — more than a collective $250,000 — is nearly broke, his lawyer said Monday, and plans to ask the public to pay for his defense. He intends to ask the court to declare Zimmerman indigent, an official finding that the 28-year-old Sanford man is broke and needs the public to pay his legal expenses.
S ource
But how broke is Zimmerman really?

The fund that George Zimmerman created online after his arrest in April on charges that he killed Trayvon Martin has fallen from $250,000 to $70,000, lawyer Mark O'Mara told USA Today. The donations paid $100,000 for Zimmerman's bond, about $50,000 for security guards for him and his wife, Shelly, and about $30,000 for rent, utilities and other living expenses, O'Mara said. Some of the balance has been designated for other expenses, and what is left probably won't cover experts and other costs of the case, the lawyer said. O'Mara said he hasn't been paid.

I think declaring the man indigent is a bit of a stretch, I mean he clearly is not destitute. They are trying to game the legal system. His lawyer has vowed to defend him for free if it comes to that. So they still have about 70,000 and they want to declare Zimmerman indigent? Really? The average household in Seminole County brings in about 50,000 a year. Zimmerman and his wife have had this money since about April/Mayish, there is no way they should have spent 30,000 on rent and utilities that quickly. I would also love to know what some of the money set aside out of the 70,000 is for, I mean clearly they do not intend to use it for his legal expenses. This man and his lawyer have a lot of nerve.

Also, don't the police have to provide protection to any criminal awaiting trial in a controversial case like this? I could be wrong but wasn't Casey Anthony given police protection while she was on trial and shortly after? Do they need to be shelling out 50,000 for security?

Seriously? The man killed a KID and wants us to pay his legal fees? WTF? My "problems" with all of this begin with this: He was working security......what kind of grown ass man doing that can't just snatch a child up by his shirt and hold him until the police get there if he is doing something worng? There is a word for that and it is a slang name for vagina. The KID was not armed, he was a GROWN man that was armed.........point taken. Straight up murder. Fry his arse.

Why does he need legal fees if, as you claim here, you know he's guilty of murder?

You've sent the court your proof I assume?

Why does any criminal have legal fees? Because they are cowards who instead of owning up to what they did have to waste everyone's time attempting to get off.

and to think people are still spewing venom about Zimmerman, even though we don't have the facts.

:shk: Let the courts decide if he's guilty. THEY are the ones who will see the evidence.
None of us have. We've only seen media manipulations.

You have no idea how much legal defense costs. Especially a high profile murder case. Costs to lawyers. Costs to 'experts'. Costs to have private evidence testing done. Costs for private security due to racist death threats from The New Black Panthers, etc etc. Some states require court costs to be paid back to the state. Does Florida require this? Do you even know?

I have no doubt that the cost is staggering and the trial hasn't even started yet.
Heck .. OJ Simpsons murder trial cost him 6 Million $$ in defense.
I have no doubt that this could easily have broken Zimmermans piggy bank already.

$30,000 for rent, utilities and other living expenses???? And what was his occupation prior to this mess? $50,000 for bodyguards? For how long? And why? Don't police normally escort high risk suspects and their family?

Prove his supposed 'pathology'. Good luck with that.
We dont' have any facts on him. Just media manipulation.

WHAT are you talking about? Do you even know? Why on earth would you get an 'alert' if I quoted you in a thread? RFLMAO over being quoted?? Seriously ... get a grip.

1 - You ignored the facts that were presented. Legal defense, especially for a high profile murder case, costs a ton of money. Like I said ... OJs cost him 6 million $$$. You insinuate a lot of negativity towards Zimmerman and his finances, but you fail to provide any information. Just bloviating.

2 - Prove he hasn't paid his lawyers anything.
Again .. good luck with that.

I'll send money again . He helped get another drug dealer off the street. Besides it's self defense. Shouldn't have brought Skittles to a gun fight. No KKK here just don't like criminals as in the only good one is a dead one

Much as you've made this up about him, one could say.

Unless you have proof of these claims too?

Why shouldn't the public pay for him? We've crucified him in the media, destroyed his chances at a fair trial, and he'll likely be spending time in jail because some racist liberal do-gooders want to capitalize off a tragedy.

I hope he sues the state dry when the whole ordeal is over.

If Zimmerman is having trouble covering his legal fees that is a personal problem. He is not poor and therefore should not be asking the public to pay for his defense. Especially considering how quickly he spent the money that was donated to him initially. Most criminals only get the defense they can pay for, sometimes the only choice for them is to get a public defender. Why should Zimmerman recieve special treatment?

What special treatment? One can choose to donate to his defense or not, same as any other person going to trial for a crime. He's not wealthy, trials are very, very , expensive especially a high profile, politically charged case like this and a fair trial for him may cost a million.

Because does not meet the requirements of being indigent. Public opinion will most likely not hurt his chances in court. The public is split on if he is guilty or innocent so im sure there are people in the middle who havent decided. Also, other high profile criminals who were crucified in the court of public of opinion have walked free. So please stop trying to matyr this man.

I think you misunderstand what is going on, he is not asking for more donations. He is asking for the court to declare him indigent so his defense can be payed for by the taxpayers.

George Zimmerman’s Lawyer Admits His Client Lied About His Finances gawker.com...

George Zimmerman is back in custody after his bail was revoked for lying about his finances. Today, Zimmerman's lawyer Mark O'Mara admitted that his client intentionally misled the court.

In a statement posted to the defense team's official website, O'Mara explained the situation and his request for a new bond hearing.

Zimmerman's defense team will file a motion today for a second bond hearing. While Mr. Zimmerman acknowledges that he allowed his financial situation to be misstated in court, the defense will emphasize that in all other regards, Mr. Zimmerman has been forthright and cooperative.

The statement goes on to say that Zimmerman realized a significant sum had been raised, though his defense team claims his truth-bending was a result of "fear, mistrust, and confusion."

Apparently, a total of $204,000 was raised, with $150,000 of that put into the Legal Defense Fund. The rest — well, allow O'Mara to explain.
