To the American ATSer who could not resist clicking this thread, i ask you to prove why the US military is "the best in the world."

I see many of you...actually, 3 quarters of you rave on about how your military is the best to ever grace the modern Earth, that the US military is unstoppable (
) and that any one who would stand in your way will succumb to destruction.

i see many of you claiming that the USA would smash China and Russia with ease. I see heaps of you say that Iran will stand no chance if war were to occur. I will tell you now. Nothing is certain. None of you are on the inside of China's military, none of you have any say within Russia's military structure, yet most of you believe that both countries are still stuck in the Cold War Era. For all you know, China could have some amazing technology. Hey, it wouldn't surprise me, what with America getting China to manufacture weapon parts and chips dictating the performance of certain weapons and vehicles. (what a stupid idea).

Anyway, that was going off on a tangent. Back to the point.

Many of you claim that the US military is the best. A lot of you claim that Australia wouldn't exist if it weren't for the Americans in WW2 (that is simply untrue, as we defended ourselves).

Prove to me why the USA has the strongest Military. They were halted in Korea, defeated in Vietnam, lost the Iraq war, and are losing the Afghanistan war.

So prove to me ATS, why the US Military is the best in the world. Please no retarded opinionated comments. I want real facts, not some bull# propaganda.

Thanks

As an American I will not bear the burden of proof. Go and investigate for yourself so that you may find the answer that suits you.

Dude, I understand you being upset about the US not helping out when your only carrier stalled out off the coast of Iran. We wanted to send some nuke techs over to help you out but since that carrier runs on diesel no dice. Sorry bout that.

So what do you have in mind to prove who is best? A plane crashing contest? We give up. You win.

Ah, but i am not looking for an answer, as i never asked a question. I just want proof of what heaps of members here claim - That the US Military is the best in the world.

They are amongst the technologically most advanced countries in terms of defense technology.

That's because they stole the work from the Germans after WW2.

They would never even had an ICBM without Wernher von Braun, and no Hydrogen Bomb without Oppenheimer, and no stealth planes without the Horton brothers.

If you are not looking for an answer then your post is just opinionated rambling most likely designed to provoke an emotionally negative response.

I'm presuming this is the Chinese carrier you are talking about? If so, i never heard of that incident...

What do i have in mind? Nothing. No military can be proven to be "the best in the world." Maybe the last great army was the British Army back when they were colonising other countries. Since then, there hasn't been any real great military power. How would one measure military power of an era? The size? No, size does not equal effectiveness. Combined strength? One needs resources and effective training for strength, and every notable country has resources. About the training...not so much.

I just want proof as to why the American military is the greatest in the world. i expect that not many peole will provide proof as there aren't many supporting the idea other than American propaganda.

seeing as though for a breif moment i was part of the military i can say it is not. the di m16 is known for being unreliable. the m249 has feeding issues.

but hell the reason why they think so is because we have the power to amass large amounts of hardware and soldiers to fight the battles.

the training of other nations are better in my opinion.

we just have the best industrialization to produce weapons. if we dont build it we can get it built fast

as for your comment on china having good technology. i have yet to have anything from china that didnt break after a year or 2

My op may be somewhat opinionated, however it is true that no one here knows what China and Russia are doing. No one here knows for certain that the US has the greatest military in the world, as it is also just opinionated rambling. Have you not seen the point of this thread yet?

Seeing as the same can be said about any other country (China, North Korea, Russia, Britain, Australia etc) would it not be better to drop the reasoning that the US is the greatest in the world, when clearly other countries can provide just as much hardware and manpower? If one would go by this, then many countries are the greatest in the world.

I can not comment here, as i do not have experience, but many reports support your statement.

Yes, but it doesn't help that things are slowly shifting the way of China. Even the US is trusting China with the construction of weapon parts...that is not good.

as for your comment on china having good technology. i have yet to have anything from china that didnt break after a year or 2

Well, to be fair, the stuff that the public gets from China is most probably made in a warehouse where kids are being used as slaves...thus why it breaks and is cheap.

As for their technology, they could have something up their sleeves, and it is best not to underestimate another country.

As a Brit, i should really sit this one out. However, as a Brit, i just can't resist getting involved!

I think you are pretty bang on with this remark. I have heard countless tales from squaddie friends on joint exercises that US troops are good soldiers but the basic training they receive is totally inadequate. They have also stated this isn't the case for the more specialised troops (SEALS, etc), they are obviously much more "up to scratch".

Another popular opinion has been that (and this includes troops from other NATO members) by and large, the troops are totally jealous of the kit US Troops receive. Many UK squaddies would love even half of standard US kit! Mind you, that maybe more an indictment on our top brass than anything else!

As to China making US weapons systems - did anyone else find it rather funny that the new Chinese stealth fighter is almost a carbon copy of the new US version? If this has happened with this type of aircraft, you can guarantee the same looting of tech has happened at every walk of military life. Just something to ponder.....

So, all in all, i would have to say America really does have the biggest and best military in the world. China, however, may well be catching up.......and on the cheap. I have to say though, as the world's superpower and by spending 25% GDP on the military, if America didn't have the best and biggest military out there, i am sure some serious questions would be being asked.

Oh god these are the threads which allow the trolls to leave their huts

If your not after facts, then your going to get speculation, flames, trolling and abuse.

Facts win, and facts say America has the biggest military and if we add up allies and Americas ability to attack any corner of the globe within hours - It kinda says America has the most war ready, experienced military in the world, as well as having some brilliant tech. Maybe not the best trained, but on average they are pretty decent.

I'm not saying other countries dont have these, because I dont know that, but I do know America atm is pretty damn strong on the military front.

Side note: I'm English and couldnt give two flying f's whos got the biggest military..

the ONLYYYY chance those countries have of conquering the good ole US of A is if they team up and strike all at once. Even then, it's highly doubtful, we still have more of everything

I am surprised no one has shown the OP this yet

Bad form to quote yourself but i thought i should further explain this point. It is not an attack on US troops, it is an attack on the training those troops are given - something all Americans should be asking questions about. After all, it is your sons / daughters / sisters / brothers / parents who will receive this training and then be sent to fight somewhere. If it was me, i would want to know my daughters had received the best training they possibly could have before deployment.

Attacking America with force is silly. Attacking Americas infrastructure through cyber terrorism is the win situation.

Imagine a group of people 100X as more powerful as the people who causes the market crash of 08 - dedicated to bringing america to its knees. Dont act like it could be done, because it could. America would be unable to feed it's army let alone invade another country.

Also, America could be bought through corporations, we all know the power money has over people and if the families we're willing to let their corps go and sell to foreign powers america would be #ed. Even buying Americas massive debt gives one great of ability to dictate what happens and when.

America can play big boss man with middle eastern countries who cant do anything back - Sending their troops in the kill and protect targets such as oil etc. But when it comes to playing with another big player such as Russia or China, thats when foot soldiers are not needed, in steps the man behind the computer whos able to bring down the millitary infrastructure from over 10,000miles away within a few hours, and its not just America who has these people, China is a massive player in the cyber world.

That article, while interesting, was propaganda. Iraq is not on the right track. Iraq can't govern itself when people are getting assassinated and suicide bombs are going off all over the place. The truth is, the US entered Iraq when it was generally safe, the US exited Iraq, claiming victory (when there was no victory to be found), while it went up in flames.

Where are these facts? Can you provide some stating why America is the best? Just because they are war ready doesn't mean they are experienced. They may have some good tech, but tech isn't' everything.

You say their military is the biggest and most experienced, yet you say their not the best trained and are "pretty decent" soldiers. Care to explain that part please?
