I used to think it was that simple, so obvious, right in front of me and I didn't see it.

Having seen it though, mt mind realized that this is no the end all be all of it. What the OP refers to, as "seeing it", is just the beginning in many esoteric buddhist and qi gong texts. There is the matter of the body transforming to be able to take in more of that, kundalini activating, various chakras opening up, the mind completely being reabsorbed back into its source, so so so so so much more to it that what everyone thinks.

There is a whole Neo-Enlightenment movement going right now where all these young bucks are coming ut as teachers, basically pointing to the ever-present Awareness and saying things like, "there's nothing you can do to get there" and all these other things, but there is soooooooo much more to it than that

Valid objection. Addressed with: All beings are God-beings, and therefore have their own goals to accomplish in this "simulation", let's call it. Who are you to look at another's sacred suffering and say it's worse than what you have? Do you wish to "reach down" to them to "help" them? They already have the full dignity of being a God-child. What can you, with your duality-clouded judgment, have to offer them? The experience matrix is so intricate and interwoven that all is taken care of. Some come here to die at six months' age of starvation. The joy of returning to the "place of life" mentioned in Shadow Herder's post above, will make the agony of those six short months seem like a small price to pay. My several NDEs (and those of many other people) back this up. You won't see the forest when you're looking at one needle on one pine tree. We all chose to be here. Even the starving baby. And we all chose the type of experience we were to have. To say the baby didn't is to claw its Godlike dignity and power from it and toss it aside to scream "LOOK! A VICTIM!". Ego LOVES drama and victimhood!

Perhaps these are the more hardy of our species and take on a serious challenge in the game? Or perhaps living in luxury we see the mundane and wish to play but do not see the struggle for life...

Your post above this is very good. But this one is more than the island of the child's lesson this is the world, and no world with love tolerates the abuses of a corrupt elite who allow the conditions to exist for a harsh lesson. In other words, we are to help one another. However we can. Physically, spiritually, everyone's circumstances in this world of strife is different. But corruption should not be allowed, if we're propping this up or not paying heed to those around us, forming ISMs and opinions that lead to this occurring, then we're doing wrong to our brothers and sisters.

So we need to really seek within and pay attention to the direction of Spirit within.

Its not as easy as wanting to be the helper, not the helpee. Its almost like another level that may or may not be needed for a person's soul, its almost like being gifted or able to assist is like an honor. But its an honor we should all strive for.

If we go back to the youth, the child who speaks from less programming and more pure light, the elder would be surprised at how many children cannot even fathom this world, and can't believe that grown ups don't get together and solve all these problems, not through millions of fascist laws and more scarsity but through natural equality, love and prosperity, ie the Venus Project comes to mind. Children are some of the most ideal, change the world kinds there are.
