I missed the first period.....it was 3-2 Oilers when I started watching.....why the line blending?.....a 1 goal lead is not a lead in todays NHL ...YOU CANNOT DEFEND A 1 GOAL LEAD IN TODAYS LEAGUE AND EVERYODYS DOG KNOWS THAT.....DID YOU CHANGE LINES TO TRY TO SHUT THEM DOWN WITH A 1 GOAL LEAD DAVE?

I watched from 3-2 Oilers till the disaster was over.

Hitting generated copious volumes of opportunity last game....so why not do the same thing tonight?

There was no one monitoring the Oilers pulse....their Game momentum Management was non-existent..... really this one is on Management and Coaching....what a waste of a game and a waste of 2 points.

@ 3-1 .... Dave you needed HELP to get a handle on Game momentum....you dropped the ball big time.

@ 3-1 you should have jacked up the Hitting and pushed the River the hard working way like you did last game.
The finesse Game put you in a Prime position to switch to the full on hitting shutdown mode just as aggressive and assertive but focused differently losing no mometnum.... instead if making the adjustment as outlined you tried to shut them down by playing Keep-Away....and you paid for it dearly.

You CHOSE to lose this game before you even started it IMHO.

No hitting by choice....after winning a Game by doing exactly that ?...what are we to make of that happenstance ?

If this was an intentional contrast in Styles the Coaches made a big mistake....if this was trying to shut them down with a 3-1 lead the Coaches failed....if this was an act of Nature then everyone is failing.

Dave...no excuses ok...yes it was correct to push for more...but @ 3-1 when you should have switched to a full on hitting game to produce that offense like you did the game before you chose to go with the finesse game instead....it was not pushing the River that tripped you up it was that when you were in a position to change your style to close out the game pushing hard for more offense from a hitting base.....you failed to adapt.

I will not rehash the deceptions and manipulations behind the Oilers Hackathon or behind the creation of Darkhorse Analytics or the Sloan Sports Analytics Conferences....... I will say that the Oilers DRANK POISON when they allowed the individual they recruited from the Hackathon into their Organization no they could NOT CAPTURE MOMA2 to silence the White-Noise...and today they still suffer and continue to wither because of that POISON the willingly consumed.

You cannot execute a Possesion heavy style where you own the puck more over the 60 minutes as a core value Driver if you use N/S sheer speed as your Primary playaction catalyst because the required PACE is to high for optimal playaction management and control....its pushing the River to hard to fast......you CAN DO THIS but you need a superior playaction management process to support you----the one you cant dial into.

I get what you are trying to do Dave...teach them that if they posses the puck more over 60 minutes they have an automatic edge....teach them that prolonged mistake-free Possesion is their Primary goal in terms of generic Playaction management.Own and control the possesion and momentum at @ safe controlled speed....then let your Superstars pick their spots to dissect opponents.....a lot of things are geared to this focus.

But there are core value issues Dave.

Its not giving away a Trade secret to say that Connor optimally requires a N/S game management support strategy....and its equally as accurate to sat that Leon requires an E/W game management support strategy....

Leons natural requirement which allow him to execute and produce OPTIMALLY....happen to jive very well with your OVERALL FOCUS REQUESTS DAVE.....this is what a POSSESION HEAVY style is all about....one that can safely eat up minutes with a low risk quotient....a more controlled slower paced horizontal E/W focused approach...a skilled grinder flavor.

Connor requires support strategiclly ....he requires linemates and strategies which support his strengths....but still allow him to functionally execute Daves System philosophy of safer longer possesions to eat up minutes the right way.... this support focus requires more work and more energy....because it requires a 2x possesion focus intentionally----- you take a fast shot on net then recover and do it again by PROCESS AND PROXY..not by random chance....you focus on the directed-rebound as secondary option managed Playactions and you INTENTIONALLY SURRENDER POSSESION in specific ways with the intention of regainig Possesion for a 2nd attempt BY PROXY AND BY PLAN.......hence the requirement of using the directed-rebound focus and Connor or Jesse who have pull-away speed have to manage it all the time...they have to focus on using their strengths to get into positions to take SPECIFIC SHOTS---- and it should be an will be slightly different for each of them---....shots that force Directed-Rebounds but that are still high % shots.....and their Linemates need to know when to be where because this is a rinse and repeat style that is simply overwhelming because it pits raw speed in all ways against the opponents....you can only do this with a Mcdavid this meshing Ultra-high Speed style with Daves overriding Possesion Heavy Philosophy which is by the way a good one.

You let Leon continue to manage his line the Traditional ways he uses....he is just a solid high level NHLer...hes his own Animal and there are no tricks to figure out....nothing specific you can target....well balanced toobox and body/brain/drive to use it......calm calculated style that will kill you with 1 second left by design....not many Peaks and Valleys.

Nobodys spending a lot of time tacticlly trying to figure out how to stop Leon....because what you see is exactly what you get....only harder work and more will can consistantly defeat what Leon brings to the table.

So put a little more work into supporting Connors needs as I just outlined....sorry but Jesse fits the Bill perfectly for the search and recovery and prolonged playaction ingredients and he brings it in SPADES Connor would do well to recognize this and adjust immediatly because its worth it....Jesse-Connor-Kassian with Kassian on the walls--- but this combo should put it away so much on the first attack strafe that they wont be on the walls much because their 2ndary focus will be finishing off a Directed-Rebound with a Quick-release shot and they will be in position early so pucks wont be bouncing wildly into the walls . ....if you want to jack it up switch Nuge for Zack with Nuge @ net perimeter/front.....Nuge who needs to be tutoring Connor RIGHT NOW... is the Master of shooting hard and accurately @ high% areas and still executing a Directed-Rebound if the Goalies gets piece of the shots......but I see a lot of Oilers have dialed this in....it needs to become more of a Team System focus now for Connors line....since 2009...many Stanley Cups were won using this directed-rebound focus properly supported by quite average Lineups....the Oilers should be devesating the League with it as we speak.

Build your 2nd and 3rd lines the same way...support overwhelming strengths...of any type....you have lots of guys who can do specific things far above average @ the NHL level....so pick a few and build 2 more effective lines.....it should take a few hours to figure out.

I have no horse in the race now Dave.... but I am finally watching games as more of a Fan....and I enjoy seeing wins.

I really thought Leon did a great job of showing us all why he deserves every single bit of recognition he receives....I will take Leon vs Matthews ALL DAY LONG MAN....Leon is to much for Auston to handle right now....the Oilers have two #1 Lines when Connor and Leon each drive a Bus....they become unstoppable.......McDavid and Draisaitle are executng from a Production and Leadership focus very very very much like Gretzky and Messier did...in fact it is Spooky to watch...plus....their Chemistry is now approaching Gretzky-Kurri which is a step up from Gretzky-Messier.

Jesse Puljujarvi is really making me Happy...he is making me Proud....he works hard every shift and he is a really good Teammate who leaves it all out on the ice....he is playing like a Man now how he uses his size to win battles....its very difficult to stop Jesse because he is clearly very smart....if you trust him to do what he does every shift and learn how he can dominate in certain areas then you see how easy it can be to build off of his game and to execute extended playactions with him on the ice.... sometimes an entire team cannot keep the puck away from him hes so fast and massive in reach and effort and he has now learned where to go with his speed at the right time because he is more patient and confident....he is now recognizing patterns better due to experience.

There is no pressure on Jesse ...he has shown he can play up and down the Lineup like all high end Star Players show they can do... he is a Man now and knows that every Player on every line in the NHL is a very good Player....he knows that every shift has to be 100% no matter where the Coach puts you....its not personal its just Hockey...its a rough tough Mans game....its where the Big Boys like Jesse play at their best.

Torts is going to go after Jesse hard and he is smart and they WILL OVERPAY and invest in the future....they knew about the Hips and because it was bi-lateral they chose to pass on Jesse in the Draft but they knew very well what he brings to the table and they know he is a very good Player...they are likely kicking themselves in the arse right now....and I think Jesse will have a LONG CAREER in the NHL: because he loves it there....he enjoys playing with the best Players in the world and works his tail off to show us all he really does belong there.

Do not trade Jesse... KEEP HIM FOR AS LONG AS HE WANTS TO STAY ---- Moma2 gives him a Passing Grade...he is a keeper....he it truly a Team Player who ADDS a Special Dimension to a Roster....you can build off of and around his game.

Koskinnen is the real deal....if this Group gets their Show together then they have a Goalie who has proven he can hold them in there and give them the chance they need to produce and to win Games.

Darnell Nurse is looking more and more composed and solid as the year progresses.... he is a real Horse who can eat a lot of minutes....he has matured nicely and is still evolving upwardly.

The Oilers PP has developed into a Cluster focused PP.....because Klefbom was the mainstay and he was consistant and skilled....and he played to his strengths and the PP adjusted for him.....everyone had to do it that way....you my Friend bring a new dimension of mobility and you take the top end puck action away from the wall and spread it across the blueline a little more and you do this effectively and naturally.....however you and the Oilers do not have time to rebuild the PP to optimize your own skillset and strengths as it was built to support Klefboms strengths.....so either you play like a Klefbom clone which IMHO you cannot do because you are 2 very different Players....or you optimally manage your own skillset in the ways you need to to REPRODUCE the impacts Klefbom was providing......and I just told you how to do that if you are paying attention....in short Tyson Moma2 wants you to watch tapes from the past Oilers PP and focus on the Cluster ..... then plan out how you will use your own skillset to manage that Cluster the same ways it was managed with Klefbom up high....you need to give a little more right now.....sacrifice to replicate the dynamic consistancies the Oilers PP has been perfecting for several years now.....you can make the PP fit you better next year OK ?......poor Cluster awareness and Management leads to ClusterPucks and you do not want that.
