That's wild, right down near Springfield Missouri, and a respectably powerful one at that.
I started thinking of this thread when I discovered a really big bulge in my back yard yesterday with a big crack going across it,and the ground isn't dry.
But I am sure that it is just something that a long dead somebody buried out there.I'm going to dig it up and see what it is one of these days.

The real significance is that that is along the New Madrid fault...potentially most deadliest fault in the US.

Where are you located, if you don't mind sharing?

20 miles NNW of madison from the capital,I can go up on a tall hill nearby and see it.
I was a surveyor in the military,I should maybe find out how close my house is to any of these dangerous thingies.
The wisconsin river is about 7 miles away, rivers have a tendency to be situated near faults and such, don't they?.
I was reading a story many years ago about a river that changed course during an earthquake here,it even had pics if I remember right,so it wasn't all that long ago.
Peace.

The last big quake on the New Madrid changed the course of the Mississippi and rang church bells 300 miles away.

It's nothing to sneeze at, that's for sure.

Here is a very good website covering the New Madrid quakes in the 1810's.

hsv.com...

and another one

quake.wr.usgs.gov...

NOTE: This page claims that the church bells rang as far away as 1000 miles...I knew it was a long way off. If there was damage in D.C....odds are bells were ringing.

and what looks like a good overall reference page

quake.ualr.edu...

The day of the power outage was rumored to be one of the most seismicly active in recorded history.

The NY state area has one of the largest fault lines in the US. It just hasn't been active.

My cats were acting restless for two days before it happened. I thought it might have been the full moon but now I'm thinking otherwise.

We still don't know how the outage started do we?

Maybe the quake energy surged the transmission lines?

Energy....

I think there could be substance to your theory. But instead of the fault in New York, I believe the culprit could be closer to Ohio, where they now think the problem originated. The New Madrid would indeed be capable of affecting that area.

There are many people who claim to be able to hear hums, tones and buzzes that they believe connected to impending seismic activity.

check this site out (that I believe has already been posted in the 1000+ posts of this thread...but good luck finding it :lol
Included on this website, which I thoroughly enjoy visiting, are forums for people who have this ability, as well as a forum for "seismic sentries"...watching animal activity. The "Phenomenon" forum is where people post on natural events they believe could be precursors to a quake.

Similar to the Taos Hum???

I wonder if it has anything to do with seismic activity...

I totally screencapped today's HAARP tracings, considering what happened with Talkeetna's last week.
I may just start doing that every day, just to see what happens.
Damn non-sneaky-enough data-altering buttholes!
