Best all-time digital sales for "Let's Stay Together"...

Sales of Al Green Up Nearly 500% After Obama 'Cover'

Digital sales of Al Green's 1972 hit "Let's Stay Together" are up 490 percent, since a video of the president singing a few bars at a fundraiser surfaced last week.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, the song was downloaded about 16,000 times last week — making it the best week for the song since digital sales data became available in 2003.

And in case you missed the swoon-worthy moment... (or, like me, just want to see it again....)

It's really amazing how people respond to these moments...

But when Kelly Clarkson's record sales sky-rocketed (supposedly because she liked Ron Paul) everyone bragged about it and was all happy about it and stuff...

Why aren't they just as happy about this?

Young voters? Al Green is 65 years old!
If anything, he's trying to appeal to the old folks.

Oh, so candidates own voters now? Interesting take the Ron Paul Freedom Force has about actual freedom...

Didn't even hear about it.

I just wish the elections were about intelligent people coming up with problem/solution scenarios to improve the nations and not a freakin' circ de soleil act...

Oh...but he is sooooo unpopular....no one on ATS knows ANYONE that still likes Obama or would ever vote for him.

It was a good moment for him...I think he is getting into full campaign mode...which is a good thing. I'm sure this piece also won him some fans.

Yes. Stalin also starred in movies and sang popular songs. Hitler painted and loved dogs.

Mao was probably too serious to have any fun.

Are they Al Green fans, too? Because I'm not sure what dogs and movies have to do with this, but thanks for posting.
(Funny how Hitler seems to find his way into discussions...)

I saw this story yesterday and was discussing it with my wife. She seemed to think it a good idea for Obama & Green collaborate a duet of this song and perform it on the American Idol finale.

to Obama and great news for Al Green!

You seem to know it already, so I suppose an explanation isn't really needed.

American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe was so impressed with Barack Obama's Al Green rendition that he has invited the president to appear on the Fox series.

He made the suggestion on Twitter: "@BarackObama we loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to #AmericanIdol this Season for a duet with Al Green."
