It's not exactly the greatest oil in the world. It comes from the Alberta Tar Sands. To produce one barrel of this oil takes the energy needed to produce four regular barrels of oil. The gasoline they produce from this oil is has a high sulfur content.Your gas mileage will go down. It'll do number on your gas tank and your gas gauge will probably stop working. It'd would be more trouble than it's worth. Plus the environmental concerns, turning farmland into wasteland, clear cutting forests, the way they extract this oil is more akin to strip mining.

thats not accurate, all teh tar sand product is blended with NGL's before it ever hits the pipeline. you would never be able to tell the final product from anything else.

sulpher and other high ethane contents are removed or blended.

Pretty much . Have personally been to Syncrude and Suncor years ago , it was a mess then and who knows what it looks like now . As far as the strip mining aspect goes .

Harper throwing a political bone to the GOP?

Go ahead and line up your tanks, will send ya packin back home like we did last time. Heck last time you tried to invade we burned the white house down!

As for Harper's action, he is pushing for the original deal with the USA and is now resorting to threats to get that deal back. He wants this as his legacy to Canadians and the USA due to it's upcoming elections decide to postpone the deal while everyone is economically suffering and seeking new ways to generate profits.

Harper will send the Oil elsewhere if Obama doesn't move this thing ahead. I can think of 3 places right now off the top of my head.

This is purely posturing for now though, whether Harper follows through with this threat or not I don't know. However, I wouldn't put it past him. He is not the lap dog most think he is.

You post that, then a reference link to where you got it from. It's from a group who is biased towards the environment. Of course they will say only bad things...

yeesh...

Regardless if it's good or bad oil, its worth money and thats the bottom dollar.

Wasn't there a large discovery of Oil in the American Rockies somewhere recently? Is that not being exploited or what?

I was just being humorous in my original post. And so were you with that response, no way would the canadians ever be able to hold off the US military. Sorry but we're not the continental army or minute men anymore

It wouldn't be the Canadians you faced, you would be facing the combined militaries of the 54 Commonwealth nations. 3 of us are armed with nuclear weapons.

No way this wuss would cross his masters. This is just for show.

Just in case theres any truth to this, which I doubt, it looks like Canada is going to be getting a few MOABs for Christmas.

And the last war you won was...? Terror? No. Drugs? No. Afghanistan? No. Iraq? No. Just because an army leaves, does not mean "they won".

If they want to replace foreign oil with there domestic , that is going to have to be a few thou wells over a period of time . Not going to happen over night . There are only so many rigs to go around or make more and train more rig pigs . Decisions decisions decisions .
