Funny,,,,one of my fondest memories with my ex was when he took me out target practicing with my mini-14 and the targets were cans. Can't remember where we were but his friends were with, and I had a scope on the mini and I remember them cans going, "Ping" and they'd fly up in the air and hit the ground...was fun. His friend made the comment that, "If Nicole Brown could do that she wouldn't be dead." I was just havin' a good 'ole time. Haven't done that in a while...how does Nerf gun threads trigger this memory... Thanks, though.

Oh man, I have a weapons cache of Nerf guns for my 3 boys and I hold regular, well I guess you can call it, terrorist training camps. I always thought they were just kids sleepovers with responsible planning of games. Boy was I wrong.

That's about all that can be said. I've seen stupid things, but a nerf gun buyback program? Dumbest thing ever..

As long as the parents teach the child the difference, and let them know that real guns are not toys, then THEY WILL NOT end up in jail for gun crimes...It's that simple..

Excellent way to teach them, my stepdad took me out at the age of 9 and taught me correctly how to use , clean and handle a 12 gauge shotgun, i knew from the first time of using it that if mishandled , could and would probably kill. I for 1 am graeful for being taught at an early age as it gave me a different perspective to what most other kids had in relation to guns, and no it did not stop me playing cowboys and indians (mostly with sticks) stick buy back anyone? if children do not have the toys, then the childs immagination takes over, and invents things to use as the particular item like sticks for example as a gun.

Point being guns are fine if the person using them is taught about them correctly, there is nothing anyone can do about the occasional loonie going on a rampage because he /she is mad at the world and -or insane.

Sure, everyone SAYS they would be more scared of the gun...but when you ask people who have actually been in those situations, most people say they are more scared in front of knives.

Have you ever seen half the population shoot? There's a reason to be afraid of knives. Most people who would pull a firearm on you (in offensive gesture) are not going to be very proficient in its use. If they were - you would barely have time to register the image. A knife is a far more physical struggle with an object that can dart in and out of view.

Personally, though, if your target knows they are a target before they are in the process of dying, you screwed up.

But this is a response to something that you did not say. What you said is precisely why people are more afraid of knives. So you really just agreed with me...and the multiple studies.

Similar studies done with populations that had never seen a firearm would simply not register it as a threat. Studies don't establish cause-effect.

Although you don't really gain an appreciation for the brutality of any kind of fight until after you've smelled bile and gore. Add to that the smells of decomposition, and it's not very pleasant. We can argue all day about whether or not nerf guns and video games cause kids to be violent - at the end of the day, there are people out there who will choose wanton violence regardless of what is done.

I have to agree with others that this buyback program is a form of anti-gun campaigning... that much is obvious. As to what effect it will have, it will be negligible. The problem of wanton violence stems mostly from families who do not take a responsible role in their child's life. Most parents likely to participate in a buyback are not likely to have any toy guns to turn over... negating the purpose. The ones who -should- be watching over their children aren't, and probably couldn't care less if they are playing with nerf guns or flame throwers. (everyone, laugh at the mental image of ten year olds toting flame-throwers about in the back yard, literally making hot-dogs)

In the end - I'm not all that worried about gun violence. I'd rather put up with a little bit of chaos than the monotony of peaceful order.

Personally, it'd be rather fun to 'attack' one of these buy-back locations with super-soakers (and then with nerf guns when they go to buy-back super soakers).

thats part of the fun of having kids, a excuse to buy all the coolest toys and somebody to shoot at and get shot by(nerf that is).me and my kid have every nerf gun there is he is a fanatic about it .did you know you can string together the belts for the belt fed one!!!! what a weapon,how much trouble do you think somebody would get in if they did a full scale nerf assault on the place having the nerf gun buy back????

I mean we're 2011, every kid in town have their high end paintball markers at one or two THOUSAND $$$$.

I'm going right straight to bad mommy hell. I collect swords and daggers (and know how to use them) and have already been teaching my 11 year old daughter how to use them. Currently none of them are sharpened, but they are still heavy enough to be dangerous. She is loving it.

I also love shooting. I just got a Mossberg Plinkster .22 long rifle from my husband last summer and my daughter knows how much my husband and I love shooting and she wants to learn to use that, too. I promised her that we'd teach her. She can't wait.

She doesn't have any Nerf guns (all of her money tends to be spent on books and anything to do with horses), but her boy cousins have tons of them and she can kick some serious butt in a Nerf war. I guess that probably takes me out of the running for "mom of the year" from any of these people. Oh well. That's a pain that I'll just have to live with.

Anyone else think it would be funny if some of the parents got together and helped the kids mount an offencive nerf style to protect their right to bear their nerf arms. It would be a funny newspaper article at least.

Yeah, as long as you register your deadly Nerf guns with your local police dept. you should not have any issues. When you have guest over you have to lock them away in a gun safe. Safety first. Then if you plan on letting your kids go outside with their new weapons of war, then you have to make sure they have a concealed carry permit with them. Do not forget that you can only fire live Nerf darts at a control range with a RSO standing by.

Man we do live in dangerous times. I wish you all good luck and safe weapons handling.

WE are the government, government functions at our behest, and it may not rescind our sacred rights? Will we place our faith in public servants who behave like our masters? Or will we place our faith in the words and deeds of the daring, far-seeing men and women whose blood, sweat and tears brought forth this great nation?

Will we bow our heads to cowards and fools who will not learn and do not understand the lessons of human history? Or will we stand straight and assume the daily tasks and risks that liberty entails? Will we ignore even the lessons of this present era-which has seen the cruel oppression of millions on the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa and South America-and believe that the continent of North America is immune to such political disease? Or will we wisely accept the realities of this world, wisely listen to and make use of the precautions provided by our ancestors?

Will we be deceived by shameless liars who say that disarmament equals safety, helplessness equals strength, patriotism equals criminality? Or will we mark the words of our forefathers, who wrote in plain language: The right of the people tokeep and bear arms shall not be infringed?

Let us make known: We will choose the latter option in every case.

Legislators: Do your duty to your country. Uphold the Constitution as you swore to do. Do not shame yourselves by knocking loose the mighty keystone of this great republic - the right to bear arms.

Justices: Do your duty to your country. Examine the origins of our right to weaponry and uphold the letter and spirit of the Constitution.

Lawmen: Do your duty to your country. Do not be misguided and misused. Your task is to serve and to protect-not to oppress, to disarm and to make helpless your countrymen. To the blind, the ignorant, the apathetic, the safe and sheltered, these may seem to be concerns of another age. They are not. They are as vital as they ever have been through history. For times may change but human nature does not. And it is to protect forever against the evil in human nature that the Founding Fathers set aside certain rights as inviolable.

For these reasons we must now make known:

We will not passively take the path that leads to tyranny. We will not go down that road. We Will Not Disarm.

Seems that these simpletons believe that “a toy gun today” invariably leads to a “real gun tomorrow.”

So you dont think what happens to you as a child has any affect on what you do when you grow up. It is not these people that are sounding simpleton to me.....

What about handbags...? Did they say anything about handbags?

Granted, some folk need to fill-out their job positions with lilly-livered
views on how a child may grow up to view the world as something to
