If it isn't obvious enough, Hazelwood power station is most likely going to be replaced with a big combined cycle natural gas power plant, with a few wind turbines sprinkled on top for some greenwash. This is still unacceptable to the climate and arguably unacceptable to national security (given the price volatility of gas).

Before implementing a carbon tax we need to look at all viable solutions that have a history of reliable, cheap, carbon free power.

But that won't happen.

Because we would rather heavily subsidize the most expensive, useless, politically correct forms of power (solar) while in reality mostly building new gas infrastructure with a little bit of wind turbines sprinkled on top.

The energy policy of this country is a joke, probably because the opinion of the public on the subject is also a joke.

. I found this little ditty on a FB page "At first I thought this was funny......

Then I realized the awful truth of it.

Be sure to read all the way to the end!"

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think..

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
It’s time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Accounts Receivable Tax
Airline surcharge tax
Airline Fuel Tax
Airport Maintenance Tax
Building Permit Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Goods and Services Tax (GST)
Death Tax
Dog License Tax
Driving Permit Tax
Environmental Tax (Fee)
Excise Taxes
Federal Income Tax
Fishing License Tax
Petrol Tax (too much per litre)
Health Tax
Hunting License Tax
Interest Tax
Liquor Tax
Luxury Taxes
Marriage License Tax
Medicare Tax
Mortgage Tax
Personal Income Tax
Property Tax
Poverty Tax
Prescription Drug Tax
Real Estate Tax
Vehicle Tax
Retail Sales Tax
Service Charge Tax
School Tax
Vehicle License Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Water Tax
Watercraft Registration Tax
Well Permit Tax
Workers Compensation Tax

And Now Julia Gillard Wants a Carbon Tax !

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was one of the
most prosperous in the world.. We had absolutely no national debt, had a
large middle class, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the "Hell" happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'

I hope this goes around Australia at least 100 times!!!!! YOU can help it
get there!!!!
i can add one more tax, i shall call it the Material Tax, its about the amount of Material that goes around Gillards Arse, Surely we can have a Curtain Tax on such a high amount.

Why do you pretend taxing major polluting industries is a tax on individual workers?

It's not, and to do so is to carry water for those industries.

Just as you do, I also believe clean food, air and water is important. But so too is money. I don't know about you, but I can't survive on love alone. The dole check will only get you so far.

I feel sorry for you. You seem to not realize that short term financial gains in a system that is destined to collapse are not gains at all. You appear more than willing to accept trading clean water air and food for money, and seem to think your only options in life are working a terrible job or collecting welfare. That's too bad, but more motivated and principled people recognize there are far more alternatives than your tiny limited options you present.

Have fun eating and breathing your money. When your grandchildren ask you why you chose to #Snip# where you sleep, you can explain how you just HAD to buy a flatscreen teevee.
