I'm watching CNN and they said "Explosions have been heard around the nuclear power plant." \

This is not good folks.

We have ATT Uverse and tonight they enabled the Japanese channel you normally have to pay for. I don't know what they are saying, but the only thing they are showing is a shot of the plant.

Here is the latest updates on the Nuclear Power Plant emergency from Reuters:

live.reuters.com...

Seems to have blown it's roof... It is WHITE smoke though. That is better than black or greenish black brown smoke from a reactor. White means its releasing steam pressure. They may have forced a pressure release--a valve was messed up, so maybe they have to break it off, causing ALL the pressure to go at once.

Keep checking that link....

Here are a few (Scroll down and read below the SOS image):

Right, so if the explosion was due to hydrogen being used to cool the plant and it was planned..could they have not warned the 4 people that were injured?

conflicting reports.

Don't know yet... I would take much of what we see at these early stages with a pinch of salt... wait for multiple sources confirming it.

This is not good. If that plant goes into meltdown, the Jet streams are going to carry the radiation accross most of the US and most of the parts of canada along the border of the us

Forget Chernobyl. think Three Mile Island.
www.world-nuclear.org...
www.world-nuclear.org...

The reactors in japan are of a completely different type.

It was the burning of the graphite core that spread the radioactive material so far at Chernobyl

The reactors in japan have no graphite in them to burn.

The reactors in japan also have two containment structures that Chernobyl did not have.
The japanese reactors have a thick steel reactor vessel Chernobyl had none.
The japanese reactors have a thick concrete containment building Chernobyl did not.

The act of burning through the reactor vessel floor and the containment building floor will dilute the fuel to a non critical mass and stop the reaction.

just listened on the radio that ceiling and walls of the reactor collapsed... I hope this thing stops soon... i don't have much more info that twitter's, because our radio is just broadcasting about the tsunamis in our coasts, with some snippets from what's happening in Japan.

Here is the live stream to Russian Television. They are showing the explosion over and over right now. Judging by the video, that explosion was huge.

Does the explosion mean a nuclear meltdown will occur? how can they cool it, now that an explosion just went off. won't that send radioactive material around in the cloud created by the blast? this does not seem good. I hope the japanese government isn't hiding anything, I hope its how they say it is, but it seems alot worse then they are saying it is.

Radiation levels have risen. Japanese officials are warning residents around the plant to avoid tap water, and cover their mouths. Current winds accoring to russian live stream are blowing east.

Does anyone know if there's a meltdown, could the fallout really reach the US? Someone mentioned earlier in one of the threads that it could.

If this is true, could it affect our crops? Kill animals and insects?
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, this is just like nothing before.
I'm literally freakin out. If our crops were to fail, we wouldn't be the only ones affected.
In other words, a great famine?

If there was a meltdown, i believe the jet streams could push the radiation towards the US and parts of canada
