I just called my mother. She was asleep. She lives in Imperial Beach Ca right on the cali/mexico border in a beach house.. the water is farther from shore than usual, shes an old philipino lady so it hard to understand her mixed english tagalog. I freaked her out with my call. she said she would call me back she had to wake up my dad.

Yup... I'm just a bit west of Portland, although I don't think anything will get me way out here,

I have a friend that lives near the Florence airport on the coast of Oregon, who has let me know she is packing a bag and leaving to go inland with her children, not taking any chances. She said there are a few other people in her neighborhood who appear to be leaving as well.

I'm from Los Angeles - not at at the moment but all of my family is there. Should I call and wake my dad (1:40 am) and give him a heads up, or should I let him get his beauty sleep?

Anyone have more info?

peace

Right... I'm really trying not to sound rude by doing this, but there is no reason at this time to have any fear about the nuclear situation in Japan. Trust me, this was their FIRST priority in concern.

There ARE difficulties that have been reported, this is known. There has been NOTHING said except that they are shutting down the nuclear facilities and have NO THREAT of radiation contamination. This particular issue has no updates since the initial quake, so at this time nothing to worry about.

To confirm again, it is reported there is NO THREAT FROM NUCLEAR FACILITIES at this time. They are being managed.

If they give a big update, sure, post about it. Until then don't be concerned about their nuclear reactors...

Also an interesting quote I just read about the original earthquake from USGS.

The Japan Trench subduction zone has hosted 9 events of magnitude 7 or greater since 1973. The largest of these was an M 7.8 earthquake approximately 260 km to the north of the March 11 event, in December 1994, which caused 3 fatalities and almost 700 injuries.

03/11/1994 is what they're reporting. I did a google search, but wasn't able to come up with anything. Just found it a bit strange and worth mentioning
