Just because I'm born in a certain area doesn't mean I'm going to like the customs and history of that area. All I know, is that I'm human being, and if I see another human being suffering I'm going to try to help them. I don't give a damn about where they are from, people aren't inherently evil or worth less because they're of a certain race or nation, no one has a choice where they come into existence.

So you're American? Good for you. Now shut the hell up you insolent fool!

I always wanted to use insolent fool in a sentence, and I couldn't have hoped for a better circumstance.

Okay, where's the mods, I thought no one was to cut anyone down for voicing there opinion on ATS. Telling someone to shut up is I thought against ATS etiquette???

America isn't getting fatter because we are a good society, it's because of all the chemicals and crap that we are putting into our food.

I have realized that there are many people out there that are searching for something. Their not quite sure what it is that they are searching for, but it's somewhere out there in the shadows.
All the while the whole society is falling down around them, and just a very few notice it, while most don't. And I ask myself, why is that? And I find, that there are many reasons, but the one reason that most stands out, is moral values. I don't see it possible that people will unite in one common cause, and it's because the society that we live in has created a bunch of spoiled children. Everything that we have in a free society has been taken for granted, and because of that, it will be our demise.
If only it were possible to re-boot America and empty out all that random access memory, and start from the beginning. And this time do not allow big business to stick their big ugly noses into politics and don't allow lobbyist to exist or to even give a reason for that need. Of course there's more good things to mention, but what for? What will be will be, sorry for the pessimism.

I don't understand why people cry about where they live.

You have the power to change it.

Whining on a forum for stars and flags will not change it. Grow a set, grab a tissue, and wipe the poop off of your lips.

I just don't understand why no one wants to watch this documentary, it opens eyes, and hopefully stimulate minds as to what is taking place not only in the U.S. but every other society that do have some freedom.
It could unite people with one mind to make a change.

First of...I am not an american. It is not only the americans who see the downward spiral taking place in the USA. It is easy to say that if you do not like it, leave......I think most people in the USA do not have the money to just leave if they wanted to. Just as easy it is to say to join politics or what ever part you do not like.....that is not how the world works.....only for fanatics does it work that way. No, it is the people in the government who are responsible for the wellbeing of its citizens.

The US government prefers start wars and to buy and develop better machines to kill someone than to educate the youth for a better life and future. A lot of the stuff that is important for a country to flourish is neglected.

The strange thing is that president candidates promise to do things better but they all fail or never even tried to keep their promise. If you'd ask me the whole two party system is designed for easier control over the outcome when decisions are being made and that the ones in power do not care about the common people. They only care about their own personal interest or the interest of their elite friends.

No. that would cause us to die more frequently. Which would be... why we are dieing more frequently. Fat comes from eating a lot and not moving around a lot. Poisons lead to things like skin gout, etc etc.

You can't count on the politicians, most of them have sold themselves. And they only care about themselves and they will pay for their irresponsibility in the end.

They make promises only to further their own agendas, and to satisfy the money changers, the profiteers, and the ones who pull their strings.

The people ashamed of "being American" are why we have the most anti-patriotic administration in American history ramming this country into the ground as we speak. Do you REALLY want to FIX AMERICA? Kick out all the people ashamed of "being American". This country would be a better place if the OP and their followers would just simply leave. THAT'S how you fix America - get rid of those that don't like it. Maybe we'll get our freedoms back once these failures are gone. After all, all these government safety nets like welfare exist only to carry the lowest common denominator at the expense of good, honest, hardworking people.

Ok have any of you "rah-rah America if you dont like America get out" people even read the post? Please do and you'll see that I'm not going anywhere.

Why do you want me to get out? Is that how you solve your problems? Running away? I'm here in America because this is my land and you are my people. To run away is the weak, pathetic solution. Its the selfish solution. We're all in this together and its our duty as Americans to improve our country. Not just quit and move out. That is the weakest thing one can do when faced with adversity. I'm not giving up on America and moving to some other country. Its hard to be coherent and live in America, every American on ATS knows this. This is why many Americans retreat into the garbage culture addiction of TV and movies. Its escapism and its what you suggest I do by leaving the country. A mindset like that is what is ruining this country, not me bringing attention to a problem of national identity that many Americans struggle with.

What do I do to help America...here's a start and keep in mind I"m only in my 20s.

I take all my old clothes and blankets and hand them out to homeless people personally. I hand my old things (and my money) to the people that actually benefit from them. I eat at restaurants that are owned by human beings, not a corporation. I buy food from farmers markets. I buy used goods or fix the ones I already have. I ride a bike to work when its not winter. I read and discuss ideas with people, not TV, movies, video games or lame interpersonal drama. I live a life with purpose and meaning. I was editor of a progressive political newspaper that printed good ideas from the entire political spectrum. (*see footnote) I'm developing a website that allows people to exchange goods and services without using money. I vote on referendums and local ordinances. I write ideas on ATS and spread hopeful, positive and productive memes around the world. What do you do?

I am ashamed of America but theres no reason to leave it. I will not move to some other country in shame and defeat. I'm trying to lead the forward charge against our common enemies. You may think we dont have anything in common but, in fact, we both believe in the people of this country, we're both educated about the world (otherwise we wouldnt post on ATS) and we both want to improve America and leave it a better place for the next generation. Why stop there, the next ten generations. We can bicker and use this issue to drive a wedge between us or we can see the commonalities among us and realize that the only power we have is the power of togetherness. One person alone cannot change things. I wrote this post to ignite the minds of the others.

*As a side not I believe that we dont have a political spectrum we have a political circle. Because regardless of your views on trivial wedge issues like gun control and abortion the rich are stealing more and more money from us through inflation, lowering of product quality and never giving us an increase in spending power (just because we make a larger dollar amount than our parents doesnt mean those dollars buy more. The $50,000 you make buys less than the $30,000 dad made.) So because these issues affect us all there is a core set of values in America regardless of your views on superficial issues. These core values are things like: access to food, water and shelter. The freedom to choose how to contribute to life on this Earth. To be free from harm and fear of harm. Its these core values join the liberals and conservatives together. So the political spectrum, a line, curves up like a smiley face and the two ends meet at the top forming a circle. Liberals and conservatives, (even socialists and libertarians) have more in common than they know and that is where our true power lies. In our similarities, not our differences.

I'm sorry you feel ashamed to be an American. What brought you to that realization? Were you born to American parents, did you grow up as an American child? Have you realized that things are not perfect? You are a human being. Like the rest of us. We are all in this together and do the best we can as ordinary citizens. Let's try to be ex·tra·or·di·naire
Not so easy? No, probably not but why don't you make the first move since you started this thread. What do you suggest? I'm always open to ideas.

Yea, aspartame. The body doesn't know what to do with them as there is no evolutionary context. So they're just deposited through the liver. Some of them are stores some of it released. And for people like me, it kills. Though the big problem is the sheer amount of sugar.

So, don't consume it! I'm so weary of people blaming sugar on society's woes. My body processes it just fine, It's in fruits and veggies. It's just sugar! I get a kick out of people who say, "I never eat sugar." Yeah, right. It's in fruits and veggies. As far as sugar subsitutes, don't buy it, don't eat it. I have a sister-in-law who claimed she never fed her kids sugar for the first five years of her kids' life; then apparently she never let them eat fruit. Whatever. Sugar is not the culprit.

Most of the horrid plastic crap, chemical-saturated poison food, and mindless pop telebabble that is sadly associated with America is not really "American." It's corporate pap whipped up for quick, creamy profits. It has croweded out the real American culture just as it has crowded out other cultures around the globe.

What is real American culture? Shaker furnature, Walt Whitman, fine Kentuckey Bourbon, Vermont maple syrup, Nathaniel Hawthorne, prairie quilting circles, colonial saltbox architecture, fine Cajun cuisine and early Jazz, the Hudson River school of painting -- these are facets of the real American culture, sadly being forgotten by Americans increasingly, nevermind the rest of the planet.

This is why I said don't drink Soda. There is more sugar in there per volume than most anything. Just not worth it.

Leave us not forget that the United States grew out of an overseas colony of the British Empire. England, was an early benefactor of industrialization and because of this had the finances to establish a global empire. A driving force behind this empire was the accumulation of wealth for the movers and shakers of this industrialized machine. It exploited the peoples it came across and ravaged the lands they lived upon.
The US is an extension of this program. The movers and shakers are still there, moving and shaking.

For the most part, citizens of the United States have been carried along as unthinking vassals in this money making engine. We have been fed a diet of our superiority and godliness for so long it is now taken for granted by too many of us. " God must be on our side because look at our wealth."

The people of the United States are an off spring product of this wealth machine. As this machine moves on to feast upon a globalized economy like a big bear with a honeypot, the people of the United States are being left behind and as the fantasies we have believed about ourselves fade and dissolve into so much dust, there will be only a few left with enough sanity to give warning to the rest of the world. Watch out this beast is coming for you to.

Look at my signature good sir, that is about all you can do. Or leave. I'm waiting for the fall of America like a kid right outside the candy store looking through the window, what comes out of it? I don't know, but I'm willing to gamble on it getting better because what we have right now is pure trash.

You are only an "American" because you get scammed to live here, and its what people decided to label this piece of land on the map of the earth. It is what it is good sir, bide your time and when the time to take action comes, give them everything you have.

The first thing would be to eliminate would be the military industrial complex we were warned about. Greed runs it, nothing else.
