I also have become ashamed of America because we can actually be the saviors of the world and for real defend human rights
That doesn't mean we should. Time to be minding our own business.

excluding what is in it other than what is best for human beings but we choose to pillage and rape every last resource regardless of the cost with no heart, soul or conscious.
Now how is that not evil and how can our government defend their motives and actions as anything other than what it is and that is a continuation of the Manifest Destiny of TPTB.
That is why it is best to just take care of our own country and our own people.

if you are ashamed to be an American no one is making you stay, go to another country that you can be proud to call your self a citizen of or stop complaining

Not only am I ashamed of my overbearing government - I'm ashamed of the citizens. Most of the people here are well.. how do you put it... dumber than s***.

Even websites like this one which would normally attract a more intelligent crowd sometimes have people on here that make posts so ignorant or just plain stupid it boggles my mind!!

Guzzle your beer - slam your processed meats - drool at the football game - obsess about people you don't know, and never will know (Celebs), and be ready to give a great big 2 toothed laugh anytime someone mentions "government corruption".

That being said - I'm saving $ to move to another country. Switzerland looks promising.

Of late, I have read one post claiming to be proud of being an American and another who is ashamed of being an American.

It would seem there are many readers here who are in either one or possibly both camps.

I for one am very proud to be a member of, what I consider to be, the greatest country on this planet.

You will note I did not, and will not, claim it to be perfect.

I would guess the best advice I could give to some of those who are ashamed of this country is to consider either of two possible alternatives.

You can either burn it all down and do away with all of those who do not agree with you and start over.

Or, and I think this would be best, you and all others like you can MOVE!

Honestly I love posts like this, thanks OP, I truly mean that. For now the only chance that like minded individuals such as us and others here on ATS have against ignorant America is to keep on preaching and hoping that everyday we get through to at least ONE new person. One person steps out of the box and chances are they will get people in their immediate lives to look outside the box as well.

Another reason we have to keep faith is because I truly feel in my heart and soul that one day these ignorant Americans are going to need me, need us. Maybe its just the Marine in me talking nonsense, but when the crap hits the fan its going to be strong, level headed individuals that help America pull through, if we even pull through at all.

Again, love the post, S&F. You were right on with all your facts, especially the yuppie oxygen thief soccer moms. Everyone thinks they are a genius, and unfortunately I think only a cataclysmic event would be a strong enough opponent to break down the ego's of ignorant America.

I'm glad to be an American. But I feel ashamed because democrats and liberal socialist commies got into the whitehouse and are spending all the money and making us look weak in the eyes of the world. I long for November 0f 2012 so America can right this wrong.

Stop with the 2 party system. They all work for the same people. The republicans did the same exact thing. Spend spend spend. Kill kill kill.

I think that you'll be surprised, if and when you emigrate, that it's not only Americans that drool over sports, care too much about celebrities, and sometimes are stupider than you (think you) are.

American values are, tbh, the best out there. Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Sacrificing them to spread them is bad however.

Getting fatter is not bad. It is in fact signs of a good society. Dumber is a choice. Many Americans have never changed in education. Just the dumber people got into power. We've always had smart and dumb people. Just put the smart back in control.

I don't know what you're on about with just products. Everything humanity does is done by taking advantage of someone somewhere. All you can do is make sure that taking is very little.

I'm not ashamed to be American. i'm simply disappointed at the government and the culture they drive. American culture, as it stands, is good. Though yes, getting darker every year because of who controls our vector.

GO AND FEED THE HOMELESS!! Dont wait for all the stupid people to get educated. EDUCATE THEM!! Dont buy organic. GROW YOUR OWN!! Dont buy a hybrid. BUY A BIKE!!

To the OP, you stated the above in your original post. I'm just curious, which of the above do you personally do ?
Because just getting on ATS and ranting about something, ain't gonna change it.

The most shameful act America has commited was the invasion of soviergn countries and murder of their leaders. . Once our soldiers put on the berets (used to be just special forces hats) we became no better than the Nazis. This is not a military that protects me, it endangers me. We need to go back to the rule of international law. We have become the evil invaders. The rest of our problems have much less significance to me.

Like I said, this country is not purfect but it beats the heck out of any others I can find.

www.cbspressexpress.com...

So I guess this would go into the "Why I am ashamed to be an American " file?

I think it's disgracefull to be an American and say you're ashamed of it. I couldn't be any prouder to be an American. Luckily, you have the freedom to choose where you want to live as an American citizen, so why not leave? Threads like this just piss me off. Head over to some place like Iraq and see how happy you are. You're willing to complain about this on a forum but likely too lazy to do anything about it.

Funny how people on here say they hate america but have no problem living here. If you hate it so much then leave the country because if you don't then your words are just empty.

For all those ashamed of being American: please leave. The people that are ashamed of "being American" are the dumbest, fattest, most ignorant and purely materialistic people out there. The people ashamed of "being American" are why we have the most anti-patriotic administration in American history ramming this country into the ground as we speak. Do you REALLY want to FIX AMERICA? Kick out all the people ashamed of "being American". This country would be a better place if the OP and their followers would just simply leave. THAT'S how you fix America - get rid of those that don't like it. Maybe we'll get our freedoms back once these failures are gone. After all, all these government safety nets like welfare exist only to carry the lowest common denominator at the expense of good, honest, hardworking people.

The thing is everyone is too confortable with their way of life. For real change to happen a complete paradigm shift is needed. We need to find some other source of economy that isn't reliant on consumerism, and retail. The resources on this planet are finite, you can't expect to continue to dig up metals, fossil fuels and produce non-biodegradable products and still think infinite growth (like we've been conned into believing) is possible folks. Peak Oil is going to smack everyone in the face, and soon you won't see fat lazy Americans anymore, because food is going to be scarce, and real action such as building relationships with your community and learning how to plant and tend the earth we all live in will become necessity.

I am ashamed of my country as well. The government, but more so the people. The majority of this country is a bunch of uneducated fools that would rather stay that way because it's easier than learning the truth. The main reason the government is so bad is because the citizens are so blind they let them do what they want and are convinced that the government is watching out for the people. No one here gives a crap about anything but whats on TV tonight. Everyone i know calls me the crazy weird one because i don't have cable and i'm a vegan. Well sorry if i don't want to rot my body and mind. And as far as leaving the country, BELIEVE ME i would if i could. My wife will not do it. I have tried a lot to convince her but she just says she want's to be close to her family. I guess i could if i really wanted to, but my wife and kids are more important to me. Maybe one day i'll convince her.

If you don't like it why don't you do everyone a favor and get the flock out? I'm sure we'd be better off without you. I hear Cuba is very pretty.
