What to do with these people? I think enoughs enough already. They probably shouldn't have been where they were but this is way out of hand. They currently have 29 boats and 660 crew members being held hostage. Why isn't someone doing something to rescue these people? I would think the UN would be addressing the issue and maybe they are but not fast enough. I wonder out of the 660 hostages how many are still alive. Someone needs to take action like yesterday.

The UN and the rest of the world are ignoring it because they know that if they actually paid attention to the 'problems' with 'pirates' down there will shed light on the dumping of toxic waste off the coast of somalia by western interests.

these clowns actually have alot of sympathizers. people think that since they are soo poor we need to let them play this little hostage game. I say go in the area and kill every last one of them.

So you (and several others, based on the stars) believe that foreign militaries should go in and kl th very people who are essentially defending their own territorial waters?

well my sympathizer comment has been proven rather well already. I'm sorry for all thier hardships, and these people really should of known better then to go in those waters. but there has to be an end to this nonsense. at least the russians know how to handle em.

I hope you can note the irony of your avatar with you proposing smashing people with a giant boot.

Huh?
How is terrorizing, kidnapping and killing people in cargo ships, yachts and fishing boats in International waters, defending your territory?

Well, because if you actually RESEARCH the issue beyond the MSM, you would know that these 'pirates' started out as a sort of militia to defend Somolian waters fro over-fishing by Foreign Nations, as well as the dumping of toxic waste off their shores.

I suggest you do the same and you will see the real reason they are pirates, it's not because of over fishing and waste dumping. Somalia has been in a civil war for a round 20 yrs now, before that they were a socialist dictated country since the 70's. They have been oppressed by their own people and their earlier socialist regime for a looooong time. They've are a country governed by violence and have been for many yrs.as they are run by extremist with little to no govt.
What they are doing is inexcusable and unjustified. They're very poor and desperate people trying to survive in a failed country but it's not for the reasons you're stating.
I don't condone the waste dumping or having their waters over fished but there's other ways to deal with those problems than how they are going about it. They cannot address their issues and problems civilly in their current state of affairs. So....they resort to what they're doing because they can at the cost of innocent life's.

"Socialist regime" LOL. Somalia has been trashed by western imperialist interests for the past 100 years, from Britian to Italy to the US, and the chaos there now is a DIRECT result of these very non socialist state's interventions.

I'm not defending or condoning it. Im saying there's FAR more to the story was implied, and that western interests have essentially fostered an environment that has created these pirates in the first place. and I provided ample evidence for my assertion.

You have not.

You mean like petitioning the UN? They've been doing that for years, and no one listens.

A United Nations report and several news sources have suggested that piracy off the coast of Somalia is caused in part by illegal fishing and the dumping of toxic waste in Somali waters by foreign vessels that have, according to Somali fishermen, severely constrained the ability of locals to earn a living and forced many to turn to piracy instead.[4][5] Other articles allege that 70 percent of the local coastal communities "strongly support the piracy as a form of national defense of the country's territorial waters", and that the pirates believe they are protecting their fishing grounds and exacting justice and compensation for the marine resources stolen.[6][7][8] Some pirates have suggested that, in the absence of an effective national coast guard following the outbreak of the Somali Civil War and the subsequent disintegration of the Armed Forces, they became pirates in order to protect their waters. This belief is also reflected in the names taken on by some of the pirate networks, such as the National Volunteer Coast Guard (NVCG).[5]

Following the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004, there have emerged allegations that after the outbreak of the Somali Civil War in late 1991, Somalia's long, remote shoreline was used as a dump site for the disposal of toxic waste. The huge waves which battered northern Somalia after the tsunami are believed to have stirred up tonnes of nuclear and toxic waste that was illegally dumped in Somali waters by several European firms. The European Green Party followed up these revelations by presenting before the press and the European Parliament in Strasbourg copies of contracts signed by two European companies—the Italian Swiss firm, Achair Partners, and an Italian waste broker, Progresso—and representatives of the warlords then in power, to accept 10 million tonnes of toxic waste in exchange for $80 million (then about £60 million). According to a report by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) assessment mission, there are far higher than normal cases of respiratory infections, mouth ulcers and bleeding, abdominal haemorrhages and unusual skin infections among many inhabitants of the areas around the northeastern towns of Hobbio and Benadir on the Indian Ocean coast—diseases consistent with radiation sickness. UNEP continues that the current situation along the Somali coastline poses a very serious environmental hazard not only in Somalia but also in the eastern Africa sub-region.[98][99]

Well, first of all, it's often NOT in 'international waters', and secondly, what are those ships DOING in Somali waters?

Hmmmm?

Do some research
