Was just reported 5 minutes ago that
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., is CONFIRMED dead.

Truly a sad sad story. For what its worth I happen to live in her district here in AZ and well I will be interested in hearing the details in why the shooter did what he did as I am willing to bet that this was a guy who in the end chose to vote with a bullet. In fact I almost predicted something like this might happen as (may God rest her soul) she was not really liked here in Tucson as a political figure as she was commonly known to being incompetent and not ever really having Tucson's best interest at heart. Basically she was considered as just another extension of the Obummer administration that could only make generalized statements during her campaign for reelection on issues and where she stood on them when questioned. In short she did nothing for this district except gross mismanage city funds and vote positive on anything that stripped more of our rights away (the typical liberal socialist Obummer ideology rep).

Again....NO ONE DESERVES THIS, and immediately said a prayer asking God to please accept her into His kingdom, and for her family. But I can only hope now that her opponent Jesse Kelley (who literally came within HUNDREDS of votes to winning her seat and was the Tea Party favorite) is able to fill her role now.

The Secret Service do not typically provide protection for lower level congress members. Usually, they're on their own, with a couple of staffers and maybe a 'hired gun' if they need it.

That question came up on the news. Even locla police are not notified of her events due to the number she has on a daily basis (upwards of 6).

Private Security staff (off duty police possibly) if any security staff at all.

EDIT - Apparently a security officer on scene drew his weapon and returned fire, wounding the shooter.

My first guess, which is just as good as any guess, that it was some crazy tea-bagger who did this and not a Mexican drug cartel?

What could a Mexican drug cartel accomplish by killing a Democratic US Congressperson other than bringing unwanted attention and pressure from law enforcement?

On the other hand, I could see some crazy tea-bagger getting his jollies off by killing a pinko-socialist democrat.

I was simply using an example of a political figure insinuating use of this type of violence. Like I said, doesn't matter what an individual has behind their name, what matters is what they allow to come out of their mouth and who the type of actions that they incite.

Its not a ridiculous opinion either. I'm asking if its appropriate for political figures to encourage, joke around, or use inflammatory symbolism in order to push a political agenda.

I'll repeat, I'm not pushing a persecution. I'm simply asking a question.

I have no idea how they could not know, but CNN is on cable reporting that she "may" actually be alive and in surgery now.

The local news report I linked to on page one was taken down, and it had reported that she was shot point blank in the head.

How can surgery fix that?

Maybe she will make a miraculous recovery in the next report?

Either privde evidence this was a planned assasination by the Government, or shut the hell up. It gets old seeing people claim conspiracy with absolutely nothing to back it up.

Hospital is confirming she is alive and in surgery. She is not dead.

The PULSE means nothing. You can revive someone without a pulse. There are actually 6 situations where you can declare death as being for sure :

1. Decapitation
2. Rigor Mortis
3. Brain crushed/out of skull/in pieces
4. Waxing of the skin
5. Charred/Burnt
6. Cut in half/disembowled

Other than that, unless you are a medical professional, you cannot declare someone officially dead or should not stop trying to do CPR.

This is what is taught to us at the police academy.

Exactly. I wonder if someone had the time to do some research exactly how many times "cross-hairs" or the concentric circles of a target were used in political and other ads?

"Targeting" something in politics does not mean shooting at it. It simply means that an emphasis is going to be placed on that issue to get it changed.

Last, shooting a democrat to remove them from office as some fools are already claiming is doubly stupid as another - and likely more partisan - democrat is going to be appointed/elected to replace the one that was killed.
