For those that doubted that 7.1 in Japan was a new source, and not really an aftershock of the 9+, I am ready to rumble.

It IS a new source:

Been sorta quiet for awhile (other than Japan - which is sorta too quiet to) - I don't like when it's quiet as it usually is followed by something big

Puterman, would you do me a favor and have a listen to This . It has an odd signature and thought a listen might enlighten me.

Where did you get the maps off JMA ?

My opinion is that the 7.1 is an aftershock in the sense that the scale of the 9.0 event was such that the entire east coast of Japan has been "loosened" up and old faults have been reactivated.

The question that arises and defines whether it is an aftershock or not is "without the 9.0 would ths 7.1 have gone off anyway?"

Having said that I'd go so far as to say that geographically this is a seperate event, tiggered by the 9.0, in manner simialr to the Darfield Chrsitchurch 7.1 and the Lyttelton/Port Hills 6.3 (where they are still debating whether the 6.3 was a seperate event or an aftershock). That was 6 months between them.

I turned on EQ-3d & noticed that the was a fairly active swarm going on at the Caribbean Plate near / off the north shore of Anegda (Virgin Islands area). Just by eyeballing it it looks like 50+ quakes, the highest being a 5.1 . Most of the quake around it seem to be todays.

I would greatly appreciate anybody that can verify the following simple information. It is important to me to get the facts.

On April 11th, I recently checked the USGS website for the first time this year, to see a list of earthquake activity in the last 30 days.

When I checked the the USGS link that provides the data for the "Past 8-30 days"(world-wide) it WRONGLY SHOWED data for March 9th through to March 31st, when it should have instead displayed data from March 13th to April 4th.

The data for April 1st/2nd/3rd/and 4th, were not available on either the "Past 7 days (M5+)" link NOR on the "Past 8-30 days" link when I checked late night April 11th.

Did anybody else notice that on April 11th, and perhaps April 9th to April 11th, that the "the Past 8-30 days" link was NOT properly updated? and if so, is it common for that USGS link to show the wrong range of dates(8-30) for several days at a time?

Thanks in advance.

I noticed on Sunday it suddenly got very active there in Nevada. I watch the global incident map and never saw so many quakes there in such a short time. Let's hope you're not right about the fault...but it's getting me kinda nervous
