They are biding their time and running out of land and resources. It would be logical for China to expand in the future for the survival of their society.

If the USA ever collapsed, it's well known who would own the naming rights.

USA would become known as "West China".

This is one scenario. However, if the USA were truly to collapse, it's possible that the states would just devolve into single nations, especially the larger states like Texas and California (both previously Republics).

However, there would also be a MASSIVE civil war for control, and I would think the result would be several countries forming out of the old states, probably five or six nations in the space that used to be called the USA.

This was the scenario foreseen in the tv show "Jericho" and I think it's certainly feasible.

Alaska would likely either join Canada or revert back to Russian control, and Hawaii would become independent, or fall under Japanese control.
