Aftere reading Nenothtu's excellent reply pertaining to socialism, fascism and the Nazis, I wondered if anyone remembers what the acronym 'NAZI' stood for?

I define conservatism as resistant to change in social structure.

So by those definitions, I would be hesitant to call the Nazis conservative.

Now my question would be... What is the difference between a liberal and a progressive?

Philosophies like liberalism or conservatism are just words written on a piece of paper. It is what is in men's hearts that is important. And men's hearts are deeply corrupted. Therefore any political system we create will be less than perfect. Expect strife and corruption no matter who is in power.

If you have done well in life it is because you are lucky more than anything else. Some people take themselves way too seriously.

Here is what it boils down to for me...
Nazism=BAD
Soviet Socialism=BAD
Chinese Communism=Largely, BAD
USA Democratic Republic= Almost as BAD as the Chinese system, and getting worse all the time.

There will always be people at the top with those 'deeply corrupted hearts'.

I believe that there are plenty of us at the bottom and the middle, too, who are also corrupted. I have heard it said and I agree with it that greed, corruption, injustice and murder are the price of civilization. (Is it worth it?)

I have to admit that I am a flawed human being who is often wrong and I have done a lot of things of which I am ashamed. I have given up on trying to make the world a better place in lieu of trying to make myself a better person.

Yes, if we only worried about our own actions, as in how we teach our children and treat others, everything would be fine. It's just when you have evil ones at the top, they have such a huge effect on everyone else.

Well that is a tough question to explain. Luckily I have found two sites explaining Nazi ideology which was Conservationism and Nationalism. As well a site explaining the difference between Liberals and Progressives.

Sounds like Liberal is Progressive-light. Interesting that he covered my former take on the progressive tag at the very beginning of the article. I thought it was just a new name for liberals that were tired of being called that.
After reading it, I can think that they found a new name for hard-line liberals to make plain old liberals seem more moderate!

There has to something wrong upstairs if you see things as being black and white, and hard-line(one way) on every issue.

I am a Libertarian. What kind of Republican agrees with legalization of unspeakable things? Not decriminalization, legalization..... And I am not a user! excluding nicotine of course.
