A little off topic, but what religion was it in medieval times that, when a man and woman got married, a priest would sleep with the bride, before the
husband was allowed to?

What a great link.
It just goes to illustrate the hatred that Christian fundamentlists have for anyone who doesn't follow their ideaology.
Thank God, we live in a modern society now and that the Reformation gave us some semblance of civilisation. If it hadn't you can guarantee that these
guys would be strapping themselves up with suicide bombs rather than writing trashy comic strips full of crap.

If I remember correctly, this practice is actually more ancient than medieval. In the middle ages, some lords asserted a king of ius primae
noctis, but that was just because they had lots of power and wanted to sleep with lots of women. The medieval priests would not engage in such
activity, especially inasmuch as they were celibates. Here's a good article on it by
Snopes.

Generally speaking, when a person defends something-here being Masonry-with false information, it doesn't look very good all the way around.
Most people here have heard and read time and again that Masonry is NOT a religious group and yet you used the above statement to defend this
outrageous claim? You also replied that you are a Mason, 32nd degree even. If didn't believe such nonesense before about the 'Masonic Sex Ritual',
I'm certainly a bit curious now.

It wasn't the priest, it was the lord of the land, who owned them. It's called 'droit du siegneur' and was not affiliated with a religion.

I am grossly offended by Byrd's statement. Or not.
I am one of "them". I do not need Viagra. I participate in ritual sex.
The promulgation of a stereotype of Freemasons as old men who do not have sex is grossly unfair.
I still think there is some chance that Byrd is an old man who does not have sex. S/he never truly convinced me that she is a woman. S/he may or may
not be caught out as an imposter as to sex at the door of a Lodge.
Who knows. Back to normal programming.

Byrd
Your comment doesn't hold water either. Most Masons I've seen/met are pre Viagra days. My imagination runs wild when I picture a bunch of old men on
Viagra attending an all men's group performing rituals and such

(g) Yeah, I know... many of them are much younger. But when I read the line, all I could think of was the old master of the Killeen lodge, swinging
foom the chandeliers and dancing around in skimpies.
He wouldn't do it, of course (he was a sweet and honorable man) but that was the picture that it conjured for me.

Religious meaning/definition according to dictionary: adj 1. of religion.
So if Freemasonry is not a religion then how can 'it' be considered or labelled religious? Forgive my ignorance for which I do not deny here

It can be religious if people treat it "religiously", or with the approach of a religious zealot.
Can someone at least point me to the Lodges that do the ritual sex stuff please? My chandeliers at home aren't installed to take my "gargantuan"
weight. I want to visit places where I can "swing" from the symbol of the bright morning star. Please help satisfy my morbid urge for Masonic ritual
sex.

Oh Dear.
I'm not concerned with Ritual Sex nor of the Masonic kind. I want to know if it is a religion or not, and why some Masons would consider it a
religious group and others would not. And how claiming to be religious could be used to defend the accusation of performing Ritual Sex, that's
all.

Do you know any Freemasons in real life? You say that you do.
Wouldn't it be easier to ask them, rather than surmizing from people who post on a bulletin board, several of whom have had their "qualifications"
brought into question by senior staff of the site?
Where is your search taking you?

I am as well, or not, but maybe, could I digress at this point? Possibly, but I think I'll wait to see how this thread turns out ... sorry, just a
Kerry moment... won't happen again, until the next time...
I am one of "them". I do not need Viagra. I participate in ritual sex.
MA, the Brethren of Secret Societies have let out a collective sigh of relief at your proclamation of "Drug Free Ritual". I wish that I could make
such a claim but alas... there have been times ... where good old MM had to rely on the allure of a vintage Bordeaux to ply the favors of a
"Candidate". What would an early morning "Communication" be without the rich aromas of a "cup o' joe"? My most alarming dependence is
chocolate, oh the "Mysteries" that have been revealed onto me through the administration of the "Sweet Narcotic of Romance". Yes kids, alcohol,
caffeine, and chocolate are all drugs. Just say no.
The promulgation of a stereotype of Freemasons as old men who do not have sex is grossly unfair.
The promulgation of the stereotype that Freemasons are old men that DO have sex is... gross. I can make such a statement with impunity, as I am just
as close to the state of "gross" as I am to the "days of my youth" (and there's that Led Zeppelin thread...)
I still think there is some chance that Byrd is an old man who does not have sex. S/he never truly convinced me that she is a woman. S/he may or may
not be caught out as an imposter as to sex at the door of a Lodge.
I'm not going near this... no way... no how.
Who knows. Back to normal programming.
Define normal, in context with this thread.
p.s. This post was made in a spirit of levity (hence the name "Mirthful"), it is not an opportunity for some one (MrNECROS) to interject "see, I
told you they (Masons) use drugs to subvert their members".
