And if the Southern Baptists were constructing large places of worship (which did not conform with local architecture) in Islamic nations such as Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, etc. --- would you be there, defending their right to do so ? Would you be there defending the lives of those Southern Baptists ?

If you want to start a thread about the intolerance of diversity in Islamic countries; then I would be happy to support that thread. There is a lot of horrible nonsense going on in those countries.

However, it is irrelevant to this thread. What stupid and criminal things others are doing in other places in the world has nothing to do with what Americans do in their own country. Trying to make yourselves look better by basically saying: "Look, we're not as bad as those guys." Is silly.

You/we should be judging ourselves by our own highest standards; not against the lowest standards seen elsewhere. We practice freedom of religion to all comers. Anything less than that just brings us closer to those other cultures you (justifiably) want to denounce.

Pat Robertson has also spoken out (lied) about the Islamic center in lower Manhattan, so this is tangentially related. In response to Pat Robertson's lies about the Islamic center in Murfreesboro, TN, the mayor speaks out. I think we might have a prime agitator in Robertson, don't you?

The real question is, where is the church? Why aren't they preaching the gospel to these immigrants 24-7? What happened to the great commission of the Matthew 28? The answer is that there are very few real christians around in the US these days. Most of the real ones are actually in the very places where they are being persecuted.

Religions have been butchering each other for years, thankfully, in America they have freedom of religion, and I don't think the U.S should start acting like Saudi Arabia, that seems like a massive back step to me.

As an Atheist - - - I'd be thrilled if NO More Christian churches (of any denomination) were ever built again.

However - America is a "melting pot" - - - it was built on being a "melting pot".

Muslims are part of that pot too. Deal with it. Religious freedom - is part of the constitution.

Who is this "you" you are addressing?

This is a reference to the current diaspora of Iraqis, which the OP refers to in reference to new immigrants to TN.

I believe what we might have here is a Jewish claim to the very word and concept? Is that we're you're coming from on this?

Exactly my point above. Millions of Iraqis and Aghans and other Middle Easterners have been displaced, to either other countries in the Middle East, who oh by the way are having the usual issues with influxes due to high rates of immigration even though they're already Islamic nations.

These issues have more to do with economic, cultural, and social acclimatization and integration than anything else. Very typical of any kind of immigration. That people choose to correlate it with Islam because they don't recognize this is a shame. And that people treat them poorly only opens them up to radicalization.
