sad part is most employers are posting for people without jobs to NOT APPLY. This will fuel the war machine to Iran.

No mater what the lame stream media tells you, it not just 1.2 million unemployed. That's just the number they have on record and that's not even close. It's more like 3.4 million either out of work or UNDEREMPLOYED!

Underemployment means less tax base for the US Gov. and cities and towns who in-turn raise their taxes and start a circle of death to all their citizens. Plain fact of the matter is more jobs have been outsourced to the Pacific rim in the last 40 years and in doing so they have ruined any chance of the good jobs that pay the taxes that run this country from helping us..

God for bid we ever need to go back to a manufacturing economy to produce what we need. The skills involved have been lost to retirement and attrition by age. The Progressives have demolished the economy and we will be lucky if it ever returns. We will be a third world country within 10 years.

Of course it happens now.... whats your point? Obviously I am saying that as a direct result of the economy collapsing. As in you know, normal Joe who would normally eek his way through life without causing harm to anyone could suddenly turn into crazed violent Joe and thats just Joe, think what crazy Carl would do....*shutters

This is ridiculous and it's going to be happening in the UK as well. There are simply not enough jobs going around to employ everyone, so what will these people do without money coming in? Well there are basically three options.

1. Become homeless

2. Suicide

3. Crime

Expect a really massive increase in crime if all the benefits are cut off. When parents need to feed their chldren they will do things they wouldn't usually do. I don't blame them either.

My point is that "murder/rape/suffering" happens all the time, and if that is your reason for fearing this economic collapse then your thoughts are very self-important. Yes I can't wait for the collapse because it is the only thing that will promote change (real change, not that crap that obama is preaching).

People fail to grasp the awesome power that we as a collective have. For if the few at the top can create this pathetic excuse of a society, just imagine what the majority at the bottom are capable of...

This will have to hit very close to home for people to start waking up...

Your numbers are incredibly off, this 1.2 million refers to people that have had their benefits expire. This is not anywhere near the total unemployed number.

On the books there are 30 MILLION people unemployed. That does NOT include people who are no longer receiving benefits.

Haven't you heard about that 30 million?

They're all LAZY!!!

Yep.

There are jobs EVERYWHERE......

............

.........

In CHINA.

Maybe they should move there....since that's what HALF the people on this website seem to want anyway with what they are advocating. Drastic tax cuts WON'T DO DIDDLY.

Let's get us some slave labor here!!!! It'll be great. Might as well....we can't compete anyway since our TRADE LAWS SUCK!!!!!!!!!

OK, you quit your job and take a min.wage job to help someone out, live off that while having a 900+ mortgage payment!!! Why the hell would someone take a min. wage job after making say 30-40 grand a year and have a house-related bills to pay for when they can be on un-employment and actually LOOK for a decent job that will at least come close to paying their bills. The minute they take a job at say McDonald's they will not ever be considered for a decent job, PERIOD. Employers don't like taking people that one, stay in a dead end job and two they prefer to hire people who don't have a job currently.

Don't even say sell the house because people CANT sell their homes around here for better than half of what they bought them for. People who walk away from their homes and hand them back to the banks can forget about getting a good job as well, Employers check everything now.

You my friend are a child and do not understand what people are going through.

For the first time in my life I am seeing Decent young women out in the streets begging people with signs for work, telling them they have kids to feed all while tears are running down their face. I have been all over this country and NEVER in my 36 years had to see a girl that could have been my or your sister break down in-front of everyone just to try and feed her kids. Go tell them to get a job!!! Come on know it all, Go tell that mother to get a job. You need to grow up.

There ya go...Craigslist is a wonderful tool....and in my opinion so is anyone who won't consider a job that pays less than the last one they had.

I am self employed...I make a quarter of what I did 3 years ago.

I have learned to adapt, and get by. If that stops working, I know how to stack box's in a warehouse...quick search on the ol' craigslist in my local area.. 190 job openings found on first search under term 'warehouse' that's plenty...cause I don't mind making less than $50k a year...at least it is money earned, not handed out.

YAY for the END of extended, longterm unemployment benefits...MAKE America GO back to WORK.

So you think that 190 factory job openings that most of those are not even valid and for show is enough to employ the over 122.800 people in portland that would do anything if they got to feed themselves and kids. That is fine stacking boxes in warehouses is not that hard at least for the young, like me but what about the old, sick or just plain out of shape and cant even lift 100 pounds. In fact even if all the young and healthy fresh out of schooling would look for crappy jobs, unless you know somebody then good luck but to get that job stacking boxes one would have 10 other people to compete with for stacking boxes.

But you have a point this unemployment benefit thing has to end one day, and Americans have to go back to work, and since a lot of the jobs were outsourced to china and other places so the bill lumbar's of america stock's could go up a quarter of a point, things might get a little dicey. But hey one can always move to china, or ask china to bring back the jobs. Though the Chinese are not that stupid to give there up there lifeblood and they have lots of people they might need more jobs, they are communists after all, and not only that they seem to be getting there shint together.

www.oregonlive.com... s_increase_unemployment_rat.html it seems for each job gained you lose 10.

You have all dug your own graves sooner or later this has to fall might as well be sooner then later, this system cant last not even for the elite do nothing but trade the digital dollars and sweat of others for maximizing profits. Eventually everyone will have to learn to adapt.

I agree with everything you have said.

Prison labour needs to stop and so should privatized prisons. It's totally scandalous how many Americans are currently in jail and for what? What good does it do the general population if someone is put in jail for a misdemeanor or lesser fellony? (drug use etc) It is a win/win situation for big corp and with all the kick-backs also for 'our people' in government. You are all talking about FEMA camps but I am telling you, they are already there under your very noses. It's institutionalized slavery pure and plain.

Great Post! I agree with you 100%. There's a lot of people who still "JUST DON'T GET IT"! And.. They'll have to repeat the lesson all over again. I have a hard time dealing with these people. It frustrates me so. So it's OK to give billions to the banks and spend billions on trumped up foreign wars, but it not OK to lend a helping hand to the "small people". (No I have never collected unemployment). Those that are so cavalier about the plight of their fellow human beings should always remember..."There but for the Grace of God, go I". Yeh, I know it's their choice to remain in the dark, those of little compassion and empathy. I guess I really sorry for them. They are going to miss the big show. Something Wonderful is about to happen. Can't you feel it?

Just some random thoughts on the matter.

As defined by our government; a family living under the poverty line, eligible for welfare benefits, (food stamps, health, and living ect.) will normally have
Indoor plumbing.
Electricity
Schooling
Health care
Food
Money
Communications
They will on average have,
AC
2.4 TV’s
Cable
Broadband internet
2 .5 computers
3 computer play stations
2 cell phones
They average going out to eat 2.3 a month
1.2 cars
At what point do you draw the line?

This is not just happening in the US. It is happening around the world. Our technology has allowed us to keep pace with the requirements of more and more people, all wanting higher and more energy dependent, standards of living. We are using vast quantities of resources daily. We have reached the point where we cannot maintain the current population without killing ourselves with our own waste. Through war, or famine or economic collapses, or world wide epidemic, or natural disaster or most likely a combination of all the above and add a few, the population of the world is about to change.

I would like to offer this as an alternative to your theory.

It is not that we have reached a point where the population is growing out of hand beyond our capacity to deal with it. It is that the system we have can not adapt to the increased population. Businesses are the main consumer of goods, products, electricity, and supplies. Think of how much stuff an average person really uses. Then think of when you go to work how much crap they have to buy to keep the place running.

There is no reason everyone has to work constantly, if we abandoned our current system that is built on profit.

i just hope that this bad situation will inspire people to save more, live within their means, become a debtor to NOBODY, and in general be prepared for things like this.

It took me a little bit but one day (payday) after paying bills it was all gone i realized, if i lost my job i would lose everything i "thought" was mine. Well if someone can take it from you, its not yours. So me and the wife decided to become entirely debt free, best move we ever made. we now can live fine on just one income, both our cars are paid for and in 2 years we will be paying cash for a house.

We feel very fortunate to have jobs currently, but just because we have income now doesn't mean it will always be there so we prepare for the bad times during the good times instead of blowing tons of money on the newest coolest gadget, or luxury SUV and freaking out when they downsize at work or the economy takes a dump, and you have a 600 dollar car payment and a 2500 dollar house payment, with 4 dollars in your account.

there will be better days ahead, i just hope we dont forget the pain involved in this kind of situation when the times are good again, because this WILL happen again.... will YOU be ready?

Well maybe now my brother will finally get his butt off the couch and get a job. He was fired from his last job over 1 and a half years ago. His excuse was always, well I get paid more for sitting here than going to work everyday.

That is after you figure in clothes, gas, wear on the car, maintenance, etc.

I can image a lot of other people out there thinking the same exact way.

I'm not trying to be ignorant, but failure to pay your debts in the USA is not considered a crime. So you can't go to prison for it. If that is the case, can't we all just allow the debt to accumulate and tell them to kiss my ass>? After all, if you don't pay the debts off then they will have a reduction of profit. There is nothing they can do to you, right? Back then, before the system collapsed, people had the fear of screwing up their credit. However, now that the economy is likely to collapse, who cares about credit anyways? There is no chance that you would become a high spender. So you don't need the stellar credit.

We should not worry about the debt. Look at our country. It's knee-deep in debt at trillions of dollars and it's still allowed to operate.

On the other hand, not having money to pay off bills is still a problem. If you don't pay them off, then utilities will be cut and your house will have no power and modern living will therefore be impractical. I think the only way we can go around this situation is to either learn to be self-sufficient (which some of you here have already done) or substitute the money with a barter system.

Either way, the system is predicted to crash sometime in the near future. Unfortunate, but necessary. There will no longer be an easy amassing of wealth (borrowing on interest to compete with your neighbors). People who depended on material lifestyle will be thoroughly disappointed. It is also obvious that the government knows what may happen --- a revolution is on the horizon. Foreign soldiers on national ground, state defense forces mobilized, martial law policies put in place, etc.

There must be a way to change the system. We are many and they are few. Remember this. How can a few control the wills of such a large number? The only way is either through deception or voluntary submission. If we do not fall for these tricks we will not be defeated. Think about a herd of wildebeest versus a lion. The single lion will cause ALL OF THE WILDEBEEST to run away in fear. However, if the prey band up together and charge at the lion it will surely die. This is a fact. Listen guys, IT'S A FACT. Facts don't lie. They state the truth. So there should be a way out of this mess. Stay strong, people.

No, tired of supporting their 'fellow man' when they need to keep focused on their own family. Harsh?... how bout this,... get a job. Anything. Quit waiting for the golden parachute.

You seem to fail to see how the unemployment system works. Have you ever been on unemployment?

Those who are collecting unemployment paid into the system in the first place. The money they are receiving is the money that was taken out of their paychecks and matched by their previous employers. Even if the person was making $100,000 at their job the most they can collect varies from state to state but typically $412 a week is the maximum and is only available for 10 months. After 12 months from the start of benefits to be eligible for more benefits you had to of made a certain amount from another employer.

Here in Texas you had to have made at least $2,000 at another employer to qualify for another benefit claim. If you are even approved at that point your unemployment benefits will probably only be about $100 and are based off wages earned outside of unemployment. Rather a bit of Catch-22 if you ask me.

You also must maintain records of actively searching for employment. In Texas you have to actively search for at least 6 jobs a week and provide proof. You also must attend classes provided by the Texas Worforce to help obtain a new job. Failure to comply with these rules means you pay back every single penny you collected and possible felony charges.

The entire point of unemployment and the Workforce Commission is not to hand out paychecks for free. It is a system in place to help those collecting to also obtain a new job. The reason the system is running out of funds is NOT because people are just sitting around collecting a check. Its because there are just so many laid-off workers drawing from the system.

Harsh?... how bout this,... get a job.

Where do you suggest we get a job? If you can give me a valid answer to this my friend than I think you should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize as you just solved the largest part of the global economic crisis.

The argument of just get a job does not work. Depending how much a person is drawing from unemployment they may very well be earning quite a bit more than minimum wage, McDonals or Walmart can even pay. Also, do you think companies are going to spend the money hiring people looking to "just get a job" when they are highly educated and have advanced experience in whatever their previous profession was?

Companies are not going to put themselves at financial risk in hiring over qualified employees. It's just not going to happen no matter how many times you chant "just get a job!"

Laugh my * azz off.

Have I ever been unemployed.

You dont know the half of it.

And yes, I never have taken unemployment either.
And yes, I went out and found some kinda job somewhere until things improved.

I am sorry that getting unemployment requires a former job, paperwork, and legwork trying to get a new job. It must be tough trying to get the free check.

But isnt that the point of it?

Otherwise doesnt it just become welfare?

Listen, I know unemployment has a very needed and deserved function in our society. And yes, I know in many cases it is the difference between feeding your family or not.

But my initial responce was in direct reply to the quoted post in my post.

I quoted what symbolizes simply a never-ending welfare program.
And I am totally against that. The extensions are getting out of hand.
No good comes from a socialized existance program that doesnt have incentive to try, up and to when the bennies finally stop.

Are you speaking for yourself,.. or just the bandwagon for the masses you represent in this thread.

Guess what, the company I work for has openings right now. Are you willing to move? Are you willing to work hard and long hours at the bottom for a couple of years? I can show you how to get in, and it isnt at the top, but it is good honest work for those that want to. And the company is darn near recession proof, and fortune 500.

Now,... where is my medal.
