My complaints are referring to the lack of thought being put on threads and responses, which is absolutely unrelated to grammar. You see, the subject line is funny (at least to me) and misspelled, however it contains a post with thoughts and a need to create a space to discuss. There's a difference.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Obviously you can separate the two. To me the two go hand in hand in that it attributes to laziness. The un-desire to use proper English or to use internet shorthand is equivalent to not searching for a topic someone is about to post just to make sure it hasn't already been covered. Or, starting a thread and simply posting a video or a audio link, yet not summarizing the video or link in the post. That's actually a rule for ATS that gets overlooked quite often. If someone doesn't summarize a video link, I'll post a reply just to say that I didn't watch it because I had no clue what it was about.

Anyway, I realize the two are quite different. It's just one of the things that irks me. I probably wouldn't have even brought it up if it wasn't in the title of the thread. I realize it's a commonly accepted meme and it's used often. In fact, I've used it myself. But, since this thread is about the downward spiral of quality ATS is suffering from, I thought I'd bring it up. I don't mean any offense to you. It's the premise I have a problem with.

Just curious: did anyone on ATS run with this picture from 2007?

No idea if anyone ran it back then, but it is clearly a street-lamp.

I totally agree, with your points, not just on the UFO section but most sections of this site. When I joined in 2005/2006 I used to add many replies to theads and also create my own, however now I have gone back to being a lurker.

Majority of this site appears to be about current events these days, for evidence of this just look at all the threads about the oil spill and israel! Surely there is only so much you can say about those topics and couldn't they be put into one thread, unless of course something big happened which required a new thread.

Ho Hum never mind, I suppose as things get bigger your bound to attract changes. Sometimes for the worst

I suppose i'll go back to my lurking duties now, until something pops up again

Toodle pip!

Venting our frustrations is all well and good but ultimately, by it's self, this wailing and gnashing of teeth will not change anything. If you want to see the UFO forum (and field in general) change, then you must start changing it. Raise the standards; do not worry about what other people are doing, their standards are not your own.

It also does not help lift the quality of discourse when you follow faddish vernacular by using the word "fail" as a noun. When you talk like a teenager, why are you surprised when the site attracts juvenile posters?

Call me snobby and you may think it pompous, but words mean things and they convey messages beyond their semantic content. You want well-reasoned threads and intelligent debate? It might help to write like an educated grown-up.

Well, when you get millions of people suddenly realizing the worlds not as it seems, the idiot population increases on websites such as this one.

Just nature, don't let it bother you to much.

I agree some what. Now i sometimes find myself skipping threads with poorly thought out titles.

Well said, IMHO ATS is the last place you should come for credible UFO information but it is still informative none the less.

EDIT: Spelling.

It's freaking 2010 and there are no facts to prove or disprove this. I have sat on my porch, and noticed a orange sphere in the (daytime) sky, for two days in a row. The same place every time. That has been a few years ago. I still think about it today. Should I have grabbed the camera or video cam? Yes...but I just sit there and watched this orange "ball" until it disappeared.

Its still not as fail as the Paranormal forums. Truly that is the "back" end of ATS.

You can sprout whatever nonsense over there and people will flock to you like stink on doodee.

No need for source or evidence.

I dont see how the ufo forum is failing. Now that everyone knows that UFo and aliens exist, both through governmental information through national tv and more i cant see how the sceptics even has a word in this anymore.

This is becoming quite an interesting thread...alot of good points but also alot of redundant "yeah I know" and "you're so right OP!" -which is to be expected and good.

It seems everyone wants a change but no one has really come up with anything substantial about how to make that happen.

In the meantime I predict this thread will become a mile long with "I knows" and "Yeah man" ...in the midst of that the semantics and intricacies of each reply will continue to become even bigger issues...like arguing about your use of FAIL...

After nearly everyone has skipped to the bottom and added their own profound piece of wisdom they will move on to the rest of the threads they find interesting and continue to berate, bicker, and force feed their self important hypothesis about "what is" and "what isnt" a UFO just like they always have.

End result? Nothing changes. Everyone agrees with OP, especially the so called "offenders" (because its gotta be that other guy right? NOT ME) and ATS lives on, continuing the cycle of lows and highs for some time to come.

Its just a cycle. Nothing new. Things will come around again just like they always do. Props to the OP for maybe pushing that cycle along just a little bit more.

Its just the circle of life...at least it seems that way from over here. Give it some time folks, give it some time.

being well read doesnt mean one isnt an idiot.

This is a discussion forum, not grad school.
you aren't graded on spelling or grammer here.
If you wish to complain about syntax, grammer and spelling, Im sure there is a classroom full of adolecents that an use some direction.

Online forums however, are just that.. discussion forums.

people who attack grammer and spelling on a message board really need to examine their own debating skills.

here's a revelation for you: English isnt everyone's first language.

I haven't posted in a year or more for this very reason...I still troll the forums looking for something to interest me like it use to when I first joined this online community, but I fail to see anything enlightening enough to get active again.

Another thread that instigated my cessation of lurking...

I have been reading this site for a long time, my perception (5+ years)

The OP is correct, in my opinion. This place has become a mess, for example:

Stellarium(SP?), I never have to use this! (This being a program that shows the night sky.) I know what planets are in what parts of what skies at what time, all I have to do is watch here!

When Jupiter is up, we get Jupiter.

When Venus is up, we get Venus.

And, once in a blue itself, we even get the Moon.

Don't forget stars, I sure didn't. All of them, including our own! I mean, wow... I forgive satellites, planes, balloons, etc. those at least move.

Then the subject of intentional hoaxing, again I agree with the OP. Unfortunately, "they have to be doing it" is not proof enough for me to call them out. I just chalk it up to a UFO becoming an IFO

Why cant I read a post here without seeing my name being mentioned? Jeez lol Just kidding.

I agree with you 100% op. We need to stop picking apart genuine UFO footage just because it "may" be something other than a UFO.

Anything "may" be something else, but how about evidence that just "may" be the real thing, but gets debunked and dismissed anyway?

OK, I'll bite. I'm new here, so I will hopefully be forgiven, for NOT posting a year ago!
I am a private pilot. I own a "small" Ranch, in N.Central Nevada. I fly a LOT, over Nevada. On TWO seperate occassions, I have seen- something, that I could NOT explain, with "accepted knowlege". Once, my co-pilot/partner, was with me, and ALSO saw "it". "It", was a disc-shaped object, that just "appeared", at 11 o'clock, low, at LESS than ONE MILE, at 12,500ASL. When I said, "Traffic, incoming, 11 o'clock low", my copilot looked-up from the radios, and said, "Roger, what IS it?. Is it at our level? Is it coming at us?" It was suddenly AT our level, holding distance. I estimate it was 50-70' in diamater, shiny/silver, with a single vertical vertical stab. Then- it was headed-away, TRANSSONIC, with NO NOISE. Needless to say, it dissapeared, in a few seconds. This WAS in an INACTIVE M.O.A., (#5575?), just west of Salt Lake City, over the Nevada border.
Anyone else ever see something like this?
My OTHER encounter, was 90 miles NNW of Las Vegas, just west of Nellis AFB ,when I saw something, with an EXTREEMLY bright, rotating white light, or beacon, on it's underside. Distance, estimated 10 miles. Then, it closed, to within 1-2 miles, before making a high-speed right-angle turn, and headed west. Then, another right-turn, to go N. After checking these positions on my sectional map, I see these manouvers, were to avoid mountains. Altitude? VERY low. Again- NO noise, and trannsonic speeds.
ANY ideas, appreciated!! IMHO, I believe these to be military machines, with "inertia-cancelling" technology. So- the PUBLIC NASA, is a show for the Yokels.

I totally agree. I am very adamant about calling "fake" when I see it, and I am pretty good at calling them, and I'll keep my mouth shut if I'm not sure, but I certainly won't climb on board with a declaration of what something is.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Anytime someone posts a picture or video of a light in the nighttime sky, I go ape sh!t. A video of a light in the sky is evidence of NOTHING. Broad daylight UFOs can be faked with a great degree of believablility nowadays with the CGI capabilities that are out there, why do you think I'll believe that a dot of light in an infinite black expanse is an alien craft? Gimme a flippin' break.

All in all I am glad the UFO section has been rather quiet since other subjects are redirecting everyone's attention. That should be an indicator right there that a lot of the stuff that's posted in UFOs is utter garbage.

Isn't it strange how aliens stop visiting so much when the economy is about to collapse?

Agreed, what annoys me is how some people will literally take anything and run (or fly) with it, I mean threads like South Africa World Cup or World Disclosure and Alien Underwater City and the Oilspill are quite obviously threads of fantasy and delusion, yet people still add fuel to the fire by speculating the possibilities.

I'm no skeptic but when people start thinking that aliens actually post on ATS then see ya later I'm off. The UFO forum used to be full of possible facts and proper debate, it is now filled with bad CGI videos from youtube and ridiculous thoughts that shouldn't even be posted.
