On the way to work this morning I heard an ad on AM Radio for the census takers. The way it was worded was like this:

"Open your door to a census taker..."

I did some searching on this and although I couldn't find the radio ad itself, I found the TV ad which is worded almost exactly the same:

2010.census.gov...

The radio ad, however, was worded so that WHEN, not IF, a census taker comes calling we should all open our doors to them and spend 10 minutes answering their 10 questions. I guess it doesn't matter if you filled out your census information or not, they are going to come calling.

Interestingly enough, looking at the Radio station's directory of advertisers, the Census Bureau isn't listed, even though the ad ended with "Paid for by the Census Bureau of the US":

www.wbap.com...

So I've informed the wife that we will most likely be hearing from one of these damned census takers sometime soon and if one comes knocking to come get me and I'll deal with them. For now, I'm seriously considering getting one of these GPS Jamming devices (gpsjammers.net...) so they can't scan the front door, and I'll be ready to sic the dog on them when he or she comes calling.

So just a word of warning - it looks like they are coming, these puppets of the government. Be ready.

Whats the big deal? I had one show up at my door and it was a very pleasant and super quick experience.

My story here.

And they didnt use any GPS device. I saw her drive up. Saw her ID from afar. Knew who she was. Opened the door and was nice and respectable and answered a few questions, chatting about the great weather and she was on her way. She didnt ask any personal questions that were intrusive. It was literally the same questions that were on the form. All happened in a matter of 5 minutes. I think I did more small talk than she did.

The outrage Im seeing is rather ridiculous IMO. These people are civilians (I know one personally) and they only ask a few questions and go about their way.

Why cant people just be nice and courteous?

Because they are doing the government's dirty work. I've no problem with a census taker, personally, but when they take any job to represent our current government I have a big problem with them. So when a census taker approaches my house they approach not as an individual doing a job, they approach as a government accomplice extending the powers of the Patriot Act into my home. They come to MY home and demand that I answer their questions so that our current government can use that information to further our national debt, catalog us like sheep, rape our education system, tax the hell out of us, etc.

No, I will neither be courteous nor accomodating to these un-American backstabbers of patriotism. If they had any self-respect and any patriotism in their bodies, they would find another job other than working for Big Brother.

LOL, the one disparaging the government completing an innocuous constitutionally-mandated act spews his garbage as being patriotic.

Being that you are from texas (a state on the verge of losing a congressional district it could gain), I do fully support your silly tirade. Spread the word!

Best,
SN

Always have to take a dig at the Republicans, don't you? It doesn't serve you or your interests.

You say it's innocuous. Got any proof that the census is basically harmless? You got anything to support that the government doesn't actually use that information for more sinister purposes?

You said it was innocuous, so I'm asking you to prove it.

I think the burden of proof falls to you on this one. I shouldn't have to prove something doesn't not exist. I'm going to go feed my purple monkey now, don't believe me...prove it!

As for republicans, it's only the fringe that has an issue w/ the census. Except for bat# crazy bachmann, the mainstream GOP is terribly embarrassed by their base.

Best,
SN

Me, I received the short 10 Question form in the mail, filled it out, sent it back the next day. Spent a bit more on a few minutes on the ethnicity question to research what to answer since my mixed heritage goes back a few generations (two different great-great grandmother were full blooded Cherokee). Found that the Census didn't really have guidelines for that answer, but that an advocacy group did and recommended admitting to the mix. So I did.

A few weeks later, I received another 10 Question form with a letter saying to not fill it out if I already had, so I did not. No one has knocked on my door, and unless one of the exterior doors to the building are opened for them, no one will knock on my door. but if they do, I'll answer what questions that I want to answer and that is all. And then thank them for their time. They won't be let inside the apartment and their temperament and demeanor will determine mine.

Don't bother with SN, he is a graduate of the Madison school of communism/socialism/fascism/whatever dehr fuehrer wants him to be.

Here is the Constitutional Mandate-

State the quantity of people that live in the house and then close the door.

That is it, no more.

If I could afford a jammer, I would have one.

I do not think they had GPS back when they enumerated that power!

To date I have had five different Census Workers come to my house and I have spoken with them all.

I explain to them what the Census really is, what it really means, what it really is used for, and how it really originated so they can understand why I won’t participate.

They have all been real nice about it, to the point of being appreciative.

If you have a reason why you don’t want to participate, just tell them. They are just average ordinary everyday people who need the work. Imagine that in this economy.

There is no need to be mean or hostile towards them. They didn’t set the policy; they are just following their instructions.

They get paid by the hour, not the form, so it really is no sweat off their back if you won’t fill it out, or let them fill it out for you.

If you don’t make it personal, they won’t make it personal.

Relax, be happy!

Could someone enlighten me as to what information they are afraid of giving out that was asked for on the form?

What are you afraid they will be doing with said information?

Basically, what are any and all threats posed by any of the questions on the form?

Thanks in advance.

What you would consider to not be intrusive and personal others might. For instance, if they asked me what my kids names were and their ages. I would tell her to GTFO, would that question bother you? Thta I believe was one of the questions on the form.
Why would they need to know their names and ages? all they need to know is how many people live in the residence full time. That is it! Anything more than that they're off my property or I start walking towards my shotgun case.

Ok, let's cut the crap people.
The people who come to your door are NOT govt. agents, and you are not going to grab a shotgun, etc etc.
That bs needs to stop.
The people coming to your door are people from your area who needed a job and grabbed whatever they could.
Be nice to them, and if they are not in return, THEN tell them to # themselves.
This posting every year on here with this crap is getting old.

If you even consider doing this, I hope you get everything you have coming to you.

Your homeowners insurance won't cover you if the dog bits this person, on purpose, because you let it out, intentionally.

To sic a dog on a person is as bad as confronting them with a weapon.

Because they work for a private corporation and you are not obligate to respond period! Most people are nice and courteous until one of them assumes thier little credential trumps all local state and federal laws concerning private property.

I had one come to my door because I sent all thier letters back "refused for cause". She started her spiel and I politely said no thanks I am not a member of the corporation and do not appreciate being enumerated by a private corporation and to not send anyone back here. She politely said Ok I will tell them and left.

She got no static from me because she respected my private property even though she probably doesn't understand she does not work for lawful government as most people don't (See protoplasmic's post on the other census thread if you don't).

Had she been belligerent or aggressive she would have been escorted off the property if or had the sheriff called if necassary.

Well full disclaimer on this, I am also a graduate of the University Of Wisconsin, or that Madison School Of Whatever-You-Hate-This-Week, if you like, so if we're throwing out people's freedom of speech because of where they went for their undergrad, I guess I'd be on the list too.

However, if I may say my piece...

You're just out of your mind with blind anger aren't you? I've got one question for all of you that no longer see the United States Government as a legitimate republic by and for the people: Why are you complaining on the internet and taking it out on poor census workers and other civil servants when you could actually be doing something about it?

Get off of your high horse of doom and hellfire and stop being jerks to the civil servants whom are just trying to make a living. So you hate the American government, fine that's nice, I don't agree with your rationale, but if this was 1968 you bet your backside I'd be protesting the US government too! What I wouldn't do though is take it out on the little guy, that's cheap and makes you look like an insecure little bully.

That's really what you have become with this, just a scared little bully.

Yeah, whatever. Like another poster I can just let the dog out at the same time the Census taker is on my property so the dog could get to her food bowl or go eat. And if she happens to attack the census taker, then oh well.

By the way, if they are on my property without invite and they aren't police officers it's called trespassing. Go defend your government somewhere else.
