The state of the union is only half over as I write this but so far some of the more interesting points have been Obama stating he took on health care because it was good politics, stating that he was going to use 3 billion dollars we got back from the banks and give it to different banks and mocking the people who, quote, "doubt the overwhelming evidence of climate change." What does everyone here think?

It's 30 billion dollars to local banks for lending....

I like what Obama has had to say. Didn't agree with all, but I think he has said things that most people will agree needs to be said.

=tax cuts for companies keeping domestic jobs, not the opposite
=tax cuts for hiring, childcare credit, education, and others
=sensible reforms regarding student loans
=talked about SCOTUS decision in a mature way to the american people (in front of the justices, lol)

So far, I like his tenor and what he has to say....

He talks the talk, but stumbles at the walk.

Same sh*t, different day...

there lies the problem

SPEND SPEND SPEND, you cannot afford anything he proposed tonight, and someone needs to tell him!

Tax cuts mean less money to the government!

I understand what you are saying, but I think targeted tax cuts that put more money in middle class pockets actually grows the economy and is stimulative. He's not talking about the giveaways to the billionaires of the preceding administration.

This is just all a show folks there's no difference between the parties here.Obama is just now getting into the part of his speech where he kisses up to the Terrorism/Industrial complex and pretty much guarantees unlimited funding and power and the empty promise of pulling out of Iraq when we know they have no intention of doing so. "Our men and women in uniform." translation:deceiving the expendable assets by pretending that the government actually cares about them.Nothing new here at all he's sticking to the Pax Americana talking points in foreign policy.

Yeah, that'll take more support from WE THE PEOPLE to get done. I'm with you, let's get our non-ats neighbors on-board, as I don't think too many people really comprehend the sinister prevalence of Eisenhower's warning having come more then true.. At least he's trying to help the grunts when they get home.

Now he's talking about bringing home the troops in Afghanistan however he neglects to mention he's the one who sent them there. We all know that there's just as much chance of Joe Biden being the tooth fairy as there is of Obama bringing the troops home, I think he just likes the applause after every sentence.

Not impress at all. Just a bunch of I want this and I want that.

Blame Bush, attack Republicans, Brag on his own administration which does no wrong, blame bush, attack republicans, more of I want this and I want that.

Seriously, what counts is the legislation he signs off on, not the mumbo jumbo he is spilling.

Tomorrow morning we are right back to where we where right before this speech.

Nah, you're just posting the same thing you would have no matter what he said. His speech and sentiments are to America's benefit.

Reminded me of a High School Pep Rally with his patrisan audience interupting him on every other word with their Orchestrated Applause and Standing Ovations almost to a point of absurdity . He did address some very needed topics in that speech though, such as Unemployment , the Deficit , Helping Small Businesses , our Troops out of Iraq by the end of Aug. , Immigration , Arms Control , and even rattled a Saber to the rest of the World over Nuclear Proliferation . All in All an Impressive Speech that will leave many Americans , I included , waiting for him to make good on those lofty Promises .........

God Bless America !

Does it put food on the table, a roof over their heads, clothes on their back?

Yeah, 99% of this speech is pure BS designed to raise his approval ratings. However, he occasionally says something that shines a ray of light on his true intentions.

Some things he said jumped out at me:
--Condemning secrecy in government. He ran on openness and transparency and spent the first year completely breaking this promise. Now he is calling for it as if he is campaigning and as if has no contrary record to examine on this point.
--Condemning lobbysists in government. Ditto to the first point...his inner circle is filled with lobbyists and the WH was a revolving door to health care corporate lobbyists.
--Calling for cuts in everything except his booming government sector. No cuts in government pay or curtailment of goverment salaries proposed. He actually proposed that students could have their student loans FORGIVEN IF they choose to go into public service. Why in the world should hard-woprking Americans subsidize the education of additional government employees?
--Complete defiance to the mountan of evidence of the scam of global warming.

Interesting...

I thought he brought up some rather good points and dropped the ball on a few. I liked the fact that he mentioned the end to the WAR in Iraq.

The rest I'll take a wait and see approach.

As Usual

We will see.

He's not the messiah, he's the president. What do you expect?? He's doing what he can, I think his tone was conciliatory, and I liked the populist items he addressed.

How did you like the part where he lambasted the Supreme Court.
Attack, Obfuscate, Lie standard operating procedure of this and every president.

endisnighe State of the Union

Economy

1. Jobs-Loss of employment is still going at a great clip.
2. Small Business-Being destroyed by existing regs and to come future regs
3. Stock Market-Money given to banks created an excellent opportunity for banks to dump their junk assets on the American People and then purchase all the good assets up. GS and other corrupt and complicit banks in the whole problem, were able to steal massive amounts of assets from the American People with the help of both the Dems and Repubs.
4. Multi-National corporations are still bleeding the US dry. With the outsourcing of work to other countries the US is now down to the 3rd largest exporter of goods. The US maintenance base is almost a non-existent entity.
5. Immigration reform is still a major problem and still not being addressed. This will of course never end, government does not want to address it and probably never will. It helps to destroy several things in our country and is an excellent source of votes for socialistic measures.
6. SS & Medicare/Medicaid is broke. Enough said on this, the government will never address this issue. They may even try to still sneak in another health care measure that surely is just another socialistic measure that will bleed us dry.
7. The national debt and the national liabilities are at >12 Trillion and >100 Trillion respectively. The government still does not know how to spend within means. I would like to push a 75% income tax rate on all members of the government, until a balanced budget is achieved.

Wars and the "Homeland" Security (in quotes because of Nazi similarity)

1. The American people have their privacy and rights taken away.
2. Terrorists are mirandized on the battle field and in bomb attempts.
3. Empire is ever expanding.
4. Wars are a corporate endeavor and for profit.
5. 700 foreign bases in 130 countries.
6. I wonder where future bases are planned? Yemen. Pakistan. Venezuela. Brazil. Iran.

Corruption In government.

1. Non-Transparency.
2. Collusion with Mega Corps
3. Collusion with Banks and the IMF
4. Lies, Obfuscation, Denials
5. Back room deals.
6. Government still not held to the same standards as the likes of Madoff and Ponzi.
7. Government are not held to the same legislation as the American People.

If you want a breakdown on Obama's speech by endisnighe.

I wrote a running interpretation on my OP here
