endisnighe State of the Union

Economy

  1. Jobs-Loss of employment is still going at a great clip.
  2. Small Business-Being destroyed by existing regs and to come future regs
  3. Stock Market-Money given to banks created an excellent opportunity for banks to dump their junk assets on the American People and then purchase all the good assets up. GS and other corrupt and complicit banks in the whole problem, were able to steal massive amounts of assets from the American People with the help of both the Dems and Repubs.
  4. Multi-National corporations are still bleeding the US dry. With the outsourcing of work to other countries the US is now down to the 3rd largest exporter of goods. The US maintenance base is almost a non-existent entity.
  5. Immigration reform is still a major problem and still not being addressed. This will of course never end, government does not want to address it and probably never will. It helps to destroy several things in our country and is an excellent source of votes for socialistic measures.
  6. SS & Medicare/Medicaid is broke. Enough said on this, the government will never address this issue. They may even try to still sneak in another health care measure that surely is just another socialistic measure that will bleed us dry.
  7. The national debt and the national liabilities are at >12 Trillion and >100 Trillion respectively. The government still does not know how to spend within means. I would like to push a 75% income tax rate on all members of the government, until a balanced budget is achieved.

Wars and the "Homeland" Security (in quotes because of Nazi similarity)

  1. The American people have their privacy and rights taken away.
  2. Terrorists are mirandized on the battle field and in bomb attempts.
  3. Empire is ever expanding.
  4. Wars are a corporate endeavor and for profit.
  5. 700 foreign bases in 130 countries.
  6. I wonder where future bases are planned? Yemen. Pakistan. Venezuela. Brazil. Iran.

Corruption In government.

  1. Non-Transparency.
  2. Collusion with Mega Corps
  3. Collusion with Banks and the IMF
  4. Lies, Obfuscation, Denials
  5. Back room deals.
  6. Government still not held to the same standards as the likes of Madoff and Ponzi.
  7. Government are not held to the same legislation as the American People.

Just a short breakdown. I will update after the Obama speech.

How much of that "State of the Union" is he actually going to mention?

I'd say a good chunk of none of it.

Charles Krauthammer just said he thinks Obama is going to try to obfuscate and not really say anything.

That being a paraphrase, not a quote.

Mike Dangerously's sate of the union:There is no such thing as the two party system no matter how much the pundits and major networks try and keep the illusion going and the myth of bipartisanship has always been a scam to rope in the independents and naive. The US government is obsessed with empire building and won't stop because they are convinced they are the true heirs of the Roman empire are delusions of grandeur fun? Health Care Reform is dead so they will be looking for some kind of domestic policy victory and will use the threat of domestic and foreign terrorism to get more power and money.Good Night and God Bless America.

Great list, endisnighe, sadly you could almost apply that list as is to any of the last 20-30 years.

War and Debt are treated as a for-profit industry and will constantly grow. As long as American taxpayers keep writing blank checks to the government it will never stop.

You will be running for public office right? You seem to feel the pulse of the vast majority of Americans.

Or...wait...you don't believe in democracy or our system of government so you'll probably not run this year.

Damn you FortAnthem! I was going to post that very notion here but unlike the masses of this site I read what is written before me and try not to duplicate unless it is to drive home a point.....

So in this case

OBE's State of the Untion

Sorry....I gave it to Congress in text as the Constitution does not require me to hold some "I am awesome and everyone will adore me for it" speech....Please refer to the Congressional Journal for the 27th of January to review the State of the Union.

I got a laugh out of the part about companies buying modern equipment to compete with the rest of the world.
"American companies should modernize to compete with the rest of the world"
This is imposable if you are trying to compete with workers that make $5.00 a day wages or less even if you have more modern equipment.
also hard the compete when there governments have the system set up where the raw materials used to make the products cost more in the US then the finished products cost from countries like china,

Just like the other day he visited a machine shop and praised them for the modern equipment they had.
The problem was there was little modern equipment in the shop.
most of the equipment was 20 to 30 years old and American made.
And you can not replace this equipment any more because its no longer made in the US.
That is why the company is most likely still using it.

I think people should also look into population growth. The US is at about 309 million people right now. In about 50 to 75 year that number will be reduces to in worst case 150-200 million people.

A reduction in population would also mean a reduction in economic growth. And the depth pr-citizen will grow. This will change the whole face of future politics in America.

Sir,

An ounce of moderation will get you further than a ton of ill tempered rhetoric.

I was disposed to post my humble opinions here, but I'm sad to say the tone and volume of your rhetoric, and declarations, are rude, and have dissuaded me from attempting civil debate under your auspices.

I feel you have not presented a dissenting opinion, it smacks of prejudice, and it is histrionic in nature.

I will seek other threads that are civil, and invite participation without regard for partisanship, or presumption of concurrence.

Respectfully,

Cyberstray

This is a free country.

You have every right to say what you want, right to life, right to pay exorbitant taxes, the right to get screwed by every politician, the right to other people getting your labor, oh and one more thing-

You specifically; have the right to be wrong.

20%? Do not even come here and try to bull# me.

When I say taxes, I mean ALL taxes.

All taxes combined come to 50-75% of take home.

If you earn from about 30-50k, you are in the highest effective tax rate bracket. Hell, if you are single, you could be paying as high as 80% of your income in taxes.

Just because you do not know the tax exists, does not mean it does not.

Income taxes alone are Federa,l State, City income; plus SS, Medicare, Medicaid, State Unemployment, Health etc.

Then you can add up ALL the other forms of taxes.

Here, I spent too much time on this rebuttal as it is.Taxes and Social Utopia

Do not tell me 20% is all we pay. Jeez.

I think you're using fuzzy math, I really only get taxed about 20% (when I checked it was closer to 15, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt) of my bi-weekly paycheck.

When I say I calculated what I get taxed I added the NUMBERS of each of my state, federal and social security taxes, multiplied by 100 and divided by my base pay.

You really shouldn't add percentages like you did here:

So far let us add this all up.
28+12.4+2.9+7+1.1+4=55.4% effective tax rate.

It's not an actual view of the percentage one is taxed. According to you I'm not getting paid what my employer says I'm getting paid sooo...I'm getting taxed without knowing it. Did I get that right? If I had added my percentages I would've had an extraordinarily high percentage as well. But I know how to calculate percentages, thus, don't need to add them.

If you earn from about 30-50k, you are in the highest effective tax rate bracket.

Well...not really, the highest tax rate is 35% if you make *drum roll* >$372,951!

Someone earning 30-50k a year is taxed AT MOST 25% of their federal.
Source

You did however work that 6.2% for both employer and employee just as the CBO did, so that's one of your 'invisible' taxes.

You are still equating direct income taxes with all taxes.

Let me say it again, effective tax includes all taxes, income, property, sales, fees, licensing, etc etc etc.

I will say it again, the effective tax rate for the people making below 250k is between 50-75%

If you make more then that, you make enough to avoid these tax incidentals.

Google effective tax rates once and do a little research.

You keep bringing up income taxes, it was not what I was talking about.

I thought you were.

See, you did it right there. The percentage of my income tax is not proportional to the percentage I pay for gas or sales.

Everything I find just points me to income tax.

You keep bringing up income taxes, it was not what I was talking about.

Misunderstanding? By that logic the 50-75% you gave me would equate to 70-95% if income tax was factored in, did I miss something there?

From your other post you mentioned CA SDI tax, I don't think you should be counting this because when you file it's considered deductible on your federal, so while you pay that amount to the state the fed will return it to you come tax season.

SDI is deductible as tax on federal returns because it is a collected tax.

Also, your CA UI tax, which, from my basic research is paid only by employers. According to California:

The maximum tax is $434 per employee per year. (Calculated at the highest UI tax rate of 6.2 percent x $7,000.)

The swing to that is complete political perspective; *personal opinion*you can either retain that $434 annualy and lose your job with ZERO unemployment benefits, or pay it and get some help from the state while you search for another one.*/personal opinion*
