This just didn't start happening suddenly for no reason - they know something might happen. Keep alert for any further news, talk to as many people as you can - someone local has to know what this is about. And if I were you I would stock up on food and water. Stay safe and keep us informed.

Great point. Except for one slight caveat: Volcanic quakes are not usually of the large magnitudes they are going to have earthquake drills for.

In general, personally I won't ever see a conspiracy of any kind in earthquake drills. Or at least not until they can predict fault-based quakes with any accuracy. And even once they can do that, drills are still a good idea, whether one is imminent or not.

Some smarter school staff on the west coast has probably been reading ATS lately, and decided to heed the dire warnings...

(yeah yeah, I know it's been news in MSM for a while...)

This really isn't anything new here, drills have been going on for a very long time. If that particular school hasn't been having them, than someone wasn't doing what they were suposed to be doing.

We also have evacuation route markers for tsunamis and weekly emergency broadcast system tests. Trust me, I worked as a 911 dispatcher for awhile and am very familiar with the department of emergency management (DEM). We live in an area ripe for several different kinds of disasters. We have all sorts of drills not only in the schools, but for emergency response agencies also.

We have to be prepared for earthquakes, volcanos, tsunamis, floods, damn failures and lahars. Those are just the local risks.

O well, I was going to change the Mag to 4.151ML (more accurate)

as well

Pretty active area the Wanganui Basin, been a 6.334ML in 1991, a 6.3ML in 1948 and heaps of 5's before, in between and since. If you follow the Kermadec Ridge down through White, Island, Edgecumbe, Rotorua, Taupo, Tongarriro and Ruapehu volcano's this is where you end up.
Maybe one day there will be a volcano there

If they had an earthquake or tsunami drill here I would be VERY suspicious but then I do live in the area of the earth least likely to have an earthquake. We are actually more stable here in Ireland than the much vaunted 'stability' of Africa with it's massive fault lines etc.

On a different note, there is an interesting little bunch of quakes happening in the Alps over the last 2 and a bit days. Not large ones but I have not seen this recently - but I have not studied it yet.

Here is the map. Sorry had to make it large otherwise the names vanish and you have no idea where you are looking at.

Well you can take it up with the RSOE. The reference number for the confirmed eruption is VE-20101101-28363-ISL

You do realize this is a government funded website with great credibility? Or didnt you even click the link? Actually click it this time maybe? Ive put it below for you for easier access.

Yes I did click the link. What you should realise is that they collect their information from the same sources that we do, and they make their own interpretations - often incorrectly or more sensationally than the original.

The fact that it is a government funded site is completely and utterly irrelevant. If you choose to believe everything you are told then I suggest that you probably should not be on ATS but should rather be slumped in front of the TV being dumbed down by the MSM.

I repeat, I do NOT place a great deal of faith in RSOE. They are useful for a first look but nothing else.

Edit: By the way - WOT says

Description:
This is a Emergency and Disasters Information and monitoring services. Hosted by National Association of Radio-distress signalling and Infocommunications.

Government?

Elsewhere

This site is run by Hungarian Ham Radio Operators and is an incredibly informative news aggregator for what's going on in the world.

Government?

Nah! Just excitable people like ATS.

Going to the Hungarian Domain Registry the Radio Ham bit is confirmed:

I've had the same thought for the past couple of days. I am really hoping the next 'red' one isn't in Indonesia. I think they have had about all they can handle lately!

As to iceland and RSOE...come on already. Even if you believe everything they write, it doesn't actually say there is an eruption, only increased melt that is often an indicator. Only time will tell, but as of now, to run around yelling end of the world based only on that is simply irresponsible. (IMO)

The alps? Wierd. I mean, obviously it's gotta have some major faults based on the terrain alone, but I don't remember seeing any recent activity there. That doesn't mean anything,
except for that one more 'watcher' is perplexed!

Thank you for your link for live quakes. Im quite new to all this, but it is fast becoming a passion/addiction of mine!

I am starting to familirise myself with quake patterns and so on. I do think that we are in for another big one very soon, just a feeling.

Okay - as if I don't have enough searching to do - - Wanted to u2u you Puterman - did you wake up on the wrong end of the bed this morning?? - to tell you I'd cry if you left too because of nonsense!! But - where the hell is the u2u button - did they do away with it - and what the heck is this W & K - read through somewhat of the new ATS Thread and it started getting mathematical - which is fine and good if I knew what it meant in the first place - and didn't have a million other things to do - simplicity please - but trying to find info on other things going on in Iceland and Indonesia - I just plain old gave up. There of course is only so many hours in the day/night and this stupid dial up doesn't help!!! And - I was out today on business and unable to get to high speed to listen to the sound files - tomorrow for certain!! - even if I have to cancel appointments. Can you say run on sentences :-0

On the quake side of life - this quake in Mexico - There was another 7. something there a while ago. As a matter of fact the area has had some larger quakes there in recent history. Can't find the info for the 7. something and in searching on this dreaded dial up, I did find a number of larger quakes this century.

Quiet???????
In the last 7 days in New Zealand alone there have been 221 earthquakes
15 quakes 1.52 to 1.952ML
127 quakes 2.021 to 2.91ML
75 quakes 3.004 to 3.994ML
4 quakes 4.151 to 4.535ML

I call that "ticking over nicely"

of course a big one could strike any moment, but I think its less likely when there is steady background activity.

Are you just interested in big quakes
