I must admit, I was a little surprised to see this thread.
I too see little dots, have all my life, wondered what it was, never found anyone else who sees them. So I'm sure you'll all understand that I was
excited by the opportunity to engage in this discussion.
I was quite sure, after reading the majority of this huge and often redundant thread, I would be disappointed if it was not for the fact that I am now
experienced in the likely results of the typical ATS thread. (We must take what we can get.)
So, why am I bothering to comment? Well, because I have a few things to say on the matter.
Firstly, I have no answers for you, only my own experiences, that I will detail precisely, and like some of you, I too will share any speculations I
may have drawn.

Above is a pitiful attempt to diagram what it is I see. You must imagine the circle as the size of a pin hole to pencil hole, and you must focus to
find it and keep it in focus. I shall attempt to describe it before I attempt to list the rules it seems to obey.
The dotted lines are moving, all in one direction. (Although that direction is not always the same.) The remain perfectly aligned. (This is an
important distinction for "my dots." There is no randomness to this. Imagine the lines going by like varying lengths of "vehicles" of light lined
up in multiple lines, on an invisible "highway," viewed from above. They are more "dashes" than "dots.")
The dotted lines can move at different speeds than one another.
The dots are shimmering, reflecting different colours.
The dots are confined to a varied, but usually small field of vision. Like looking through a black sheet with a hole cut in it. The diameter of this
whole varies.
The dots (or dashes) move across a bright and tiny "crack" that has a shape that either changes or is undeciferable. The tiny "crack" usually
seems like a lightning shape, or a V shape. The light coming from the crack seems too bright to look at, so I must look at the dots, in lines, moving
over the crack. This does require some focus...
The dots generally move from left to right, regardless of where I look, or at what angle. The often move diagonally, to varying degrees.
Now the rules:
It doesn't matter if my eyes are open or closed. Or where I point my eyes. I'm sure this means I'm not actually "seeing" these dots. (or the
"crack" for that matter.) I'm just experiencing this phenomenon, visually.
It's not easy to see the dots when there is something "real" in my field of vision. (But if the lights are dim, it's possible.) In broad daylight
it's impossible, unless I cover my eyes, producing blackness. Then i can "look" anywhere and see the dots.
The dots do not change if the room is dark and I focus on them while opening and closing my eyes.
While I'm familiar with the effects of many mind altering substances my experiences with them were perfectly clinical and you can trust me when I say
that this "tiny dot" phenomenon has been noticed by me all my life. It is not the "bubble" or "encapsulation" experience that chemicals tend to
induce nor a remnant of it.
On the other hand, I do believe that "everything" is chemical, as we are these biological beings that have, at the least, these five senses for
inputting information. I am, for instance, not saying exactly that I am "seeing" these dots, I simply cannot explain it any other way.
Speculation: (because of all the possible information on this subject, this thread is the most complete precis available.)
1. It's likely that this is just some useless ability to register some kind of internal feedback. IE: there is a biological reason...
2. I'm looking at a crack in reality and on the other side is God.
Of course, I'm kidding. I am very glad to have contributed my thoughts to this discussion. Perhaps someday, we will get a real answer to the real
cause of this phenomenon.
I didn't think it was possible that I was the only person on Earth who experienced the 'tiny dots.' Today I found out I was right.
Thanks to the OP and to everyone who had something constructive to say about this phenomenon.
and NO! they are not floaters!
