What if California is breaking off?

Nah, but that does sound unsettling.
Maybe lava flows? Experimental aircraft with a cloaking device?
Could be a lot of things, hopefully nothing serious.

S&F I'll be back to see whats going on.

This is interesting because I also felt a mini earthquake a few days ago. I think it was either on Thursday or Friday.

The weird thing is that I'm in Atlanta and I never felt a small earthquake here.

I was in my room and I felt my house shake a little, I even heard it.

I didn't give it much attention but now I wonder if it wasn't just a rumble.

Could this be the Earth resonating off balance due to HAARP?

If a freq. is set in the ground, could that trigger an unbalanced cycling of the Earth's Natural frequency? Can it be stopped if the reflecting resonance triggers other resonance of different frequencies? I would imagine it would be hard to create a counter freq. to stop it.

I have gotten up 3 times in the last month to see what is flying over us -
nothing there. Last night was one of the nights. I am in Southern Ca.
It isn't a shaking - it's a loud rumbling -
like a helicopter, jet that is too close or a large truck.
It doesn't happen during the day - only at night.
Just putting it out there.
It is likely not what you are all experiencing there -
but it is strange and unusual for here.

I live in L.A. and I think I know what you're talking about. One night it was so loud, though seemed to be coming from a distance, I asked my daughter to come to the porch to see what she thought. It sounded to me like a jet landing but it was very loud and lasted too long. It was at night; I don't remember what time. I hear this sound occasionally.

Hi. I live in this area. It's weird that I recently posted that I had been hearing low flying helicopters flying over my house at night, on a chemtrail thread.

Maybe it wasnt helicopters.

Newport Washington has a National Seismograph Network station. This thing feels hiccups from Mt Rainier, Mt. St Helens. We have a volcano problem. It extends a great distance. This area is on a fault line, as well.

The odds are great that Ranier could blow and cause an earthquake and tsunami. It's over due. It would not only wipe out Seattle but reach to the area near Newport.

Ive only felt 2 earthquake, in 15 years in this area. One sounded like a sonic boom but no damage. Very odd.

I expect the frequency of natural disasters will increace between now and the end of 2010.

Hi there. First post. Joined because this topic is something we've been discussing in our household.

I live in Milwaukie, Oregon (Clackamas County - south of Portland) and heard what I thought was really loud jets about five-ish days ago, which would have been somewhere around Oct 8. I wasn't the first time I'd heard it, but this time I remarked to my son that I'd heard some really loud rumblings but he had not heard them - or maybe just didn't notice because he was wearing his Ipod or whatever. Did happen several times over the course of different days. But I never did see a plane or planes and the sky was very clear.

I'm going to pay closer attention if I hear them again to note days and times. Very strange.

Great forum. I've been observing from the sidelines for some time

this may or may not be on topic, but when a jet is going say Mach 3, do you hear just 1 sonic boom? If just one, is it any different than one would be just going Mach 1? I was in the AF but my experience is limited to C-130s. Not a chance of approaching the sound barrier.

I was just thinking if they are flying the replacement for the SR71, or the next one around, it may cause these issues, and nobody will admit to it flying.

I live in Bonney Lake, WA and I haven't really heard anything unusual. Or perhaps I have and just didn't recognize it. I live directly east of McChord AFB and pretty much have a constant convoy of C-17 Globemaster III's, Huey's, Chinooks and Blackhawks. It's got to the point where I can recognize what is flying by without even looking outside. The C17's are fairly common, but I'll still get up and look at the helicopters. I think I would be more alerted if I didn't hear any noise.

Oh, I apologize for being nitpicky, but the map in the OP incorrectly has a marker with an "A" in it on Vancouver. The linked story actually refers to Victoria which is on southern Vancouver Island which would be directly south and slightly west on that island that looks like it's poking Washington. Also, the orange mark I'm assuming is to mark the huge landslide we just had. That orange mark is almost directly on my house. The actual slide occurred to the east fairly close to Yakima.

I live in the middle between Van and Calgary. Nothing really out of the ordinary here that I've noticed. The waters a bit lower than normal in lakes and rivers, but not epically.

However we ARE the center of the universe here.

This also has been happening on the South part of Vancouver Island. It has been ongoing off and on now for a month. No jets, helicopters that I could see or heavy trucks thundering down the road. We live in a wooded area with little traffic. It has been puzzling me for a while now. It is really a sound I haven't heard before and one where I can't deduce it's origins.

This was probably a typical sonic boom from an aircraft. Looking at the IRIS Seismic Monitor, I see nothing recorded as far as seismic activity in the southeast region.

On the other hand though, it looks like the pacific plate is going crazy! Look at all that activity, and a decent size quake just now in Alaska.

Long time reader, first time poster. This topic sparked my interest because last week while working outside my job, I heard the same thing as explained here, twice. Weird thing is; I live in the middle of Kentucky ( which is also close to a fault). I thought it suspicious that both times I heard it, the clouds were covering the sky and preventing me from seeing what was making the noise. I immediately looked up from hearing it above me, so this might be two different things if they are pointing to earthquakes. Also just to add, when I was in highschool, 2004, my earth/space teacher told us students that sometime in the bear future an earthquake big enough to wipe out communication throughout the east coast would occur. Yaaay.
