Love the avatar

....on topic my husband works in downtown pittsburgh and he said there was nothing out of the ordinary as of 3ish today. I did hear Shadyside was boarding up though, and places in the strip. ...as far as the west end bridge, anyone who lives here avoids that pretty much at all cost anyway

My bff works right next to the convention center. Just got the lowdown, the protester turnout is...drum roll please...

5k.

Me? I think they are probably all lost in the south side, maybe it will be 10k tomorrow.

Hell, I grew up there adn still can't get the 79, 279 straight.

Can you imagine what security must be like at Pittsburgh international?

What it is:
www.g20.org...

Protest subjects:
The protesters include representatives from labor, socialist, environmentalist and anti-globalist movements. Protesters are largely demanding more transparency about the actions that G20 is undertaking to combat economic and environmental problems.

Additionally, Iran isn't a part of the G20 countries, I seriously doubt Ahmadinejad would be there.

Greenpeace was the only big news for Wednesday. I believe that Thursday will be worse.

There is one group, www.resistg20.org who are planning to meet approximately 3 miles from the Convention Center where the World leaders are to gather. The group encourages anarchy but doesn't say it outloud.

"Thursday, September 24, will feature a People's Uprising, a mass march to disrupt the G-20 summit. We'll be starting at Arsenal Park at 2:30 pm in Lawrenceville, a vibrant working class community in the city, and marching to the G-20 summit downtown. Our theme is "Power from Below, Not Impositions from Above." Our only permit is our feet and voices. The G-20 is in the house, throwing a party. Let's crash it.

G-Ininity media has posted a good amount of updates as they happen

I posted earlier about the "Seeds of Peace" group filing a federal lawsuit claiming that they are being harassed by police. They lost that suit. So far, I haven't found any history as far as them taking part in any kind if criminal activity at protests which would be the only reason for the police to continuously follow the Seeds bus. The searches do appear to be unconstitutional but they are permitted under the Patriot Act since its considers to be for National Secuity. I'm sure they will sue afterwards, their prior suit was strictly for police harassment and not illegal searches.

The police are unhappy with the fact that Seeds feeds anarchists who promote violence.

Thank You! Courtesty of C.S. Lewis...

I have relatives close by, they used to live in New York.
Imagine that, they are relieved to be away but now face this.

I love that trilogy - Lewis is the best! My sig comes from the third book.

Hopefully today and tomorrow will go off without too much trouble. The regular people here can't even figure out why we are hosting this thing. How we are making any money when they have scared everyone away from town and the dignitaries aren't even staying in the county is still a mystery to me. Blah.......

As far as I can tell living in Pittsburgh, this whole hype over the protesting has been just a lot of hype. I have not seen anything other than the Greenpeace showing yesterday that has been remotely close to what they were expecting...

I heard rumors that foreign troops, specifically NATO troops are deployed there for security as well...

So the protesters claimed they had engaged in a battle with police in Larwrenceville. Quite honestly I had bigger dust-ups on the playground in 6th grade. The police to protester ratio is about 100 to 1. If anything the protesters look completely stupid, unorganized, and just plain weak compared to what they claimed they were going to do.

As expected the loudest voice is going to be from the "enviromental" groups, such as greenpeace.. followed closely by self styled "anarchist" ....

Personally.. I find it all a bit embarassing.

I love to see the anti corruption, the antiglobalist, the anti corrupt economics protestors.. but the majority are fools without a clue.. doing stupid crap like hanging from a bridge advising people to cut co2 emissions.

The World deserves the situation at hand, they fight ignorance with ignorance.

Yes, those 'self styled anarchists' you describe make me absolutely sick. They know nothing of the basic principles of anarchism or of the universality with which they were meant to be applied. The funniest thing I observed were so called anarchists calling for an end to capitalism and free markets. When it is the free market that would replace the government in such a society. I laughed for a few minutes after seeing it.

Cheers to you sir.
