I said, "tried and true." You said, tried and failed." That's a straw man argument if I ever saw one.
I know what you said. I know what I said. What was true before got us here. What seemed to work before may not work now. Transmute the circle into a spiral.
Ofcourse what was considered "tried & true" before may well have been, like a great deal of what is often refered to as 'common sense', either somebody else's agenda, pure prejudice, or some of both. Thus being more accurately described as 'repeated & false'.

tried and true, tried and failed, etc..........

Semantics to OT.....

Bunken Drum...where do you stand man....?

Is this whole straw man blah blah blah thing still going around?

The fact is that pointing someone out as a straw man does not prove the point wrong. It just makes you observant. Clap clap clap to you.

But going back to topic. Why is it bad to feel the youth are right and the last generation is wrong. Is That level of respect for the elderly really so important? Can't you just be respected as a person and this generation can go on its merry way not caring about your archaic positions on topics?

I'd really like some opinions, seeing as my parents are of that old way and I don't really know why they think there ways.

I guess I'm speaking of personal experience being a great teacher...the discussion is not primarily who (what age/genration) is 'smarter'

but rather "life" itself and the experience it brings is a good thing...

Certainly not trying to set up an argument of us vs. them, old vs. young...

rather at my current age I'm more aware of the consequences of decisions, than when I was in my 30, let's say...?

Do you think Steve McNair is re-thinking his decisions as a young man>??

Oh I know that. I'm just wondering if the theory that the next generation is always better off is true or not. In most modernized nations this seems to be true.

My frame of reference is biblical, you probably know...the scriptures do say "knowledge will increase" but I guess that's kinda "2 and 2 is 4", so to speak...but with technological advances comes great opportunity...and of course responsibility...

Altho i believe the things that matter/truly last are unseen...joy, love, peace...I dunno?

Do kids really grow up more quickly?

Mentally,No.

That side is the same as previous generations of kids.
The kids of today think they are though and certainly play on it all the time but adults can see that that's not the case.
As we did/do now being older, they will see when looking back.

Now what happened to respecting your elders?
God knows.A weird one that,it seems to have just come about.
Yes there are some reasons put forward but not enough to justify the broad scale of how kids are today.
Well those are my views, some may agree and some may not.

I am not just playing. I had no better way to express my intent. You opined that it was just semantics thus I generated some for you. Apparently disparate things can be seen and connected in many ways depending upon how deeply one searches for meaning. There's a dash of humor too-- achoo!

Mentally, no for sure...

And it does seems things took a turn for the worse, recently...nah, your opinions are always welcome by OT...

In particular, the things I listed and in general, knowledge. The rest is left to interpretation.

Gracias!
