As several posters have stated, it is not that the earth cannot sustain the current numbers, but it is rather the uneven way that the resources are being distributed that is the problem.
The great equalizer, however, "Mother Nature" is the ultimate arbiter as to the future population of the earth. Several times, in the past 50,000 years, the entire population of the earth had dwindled to a few thousand, due mostly to major climate changes, and the advance of glaciers. Another ice age would see most of the population of the earth disappear in just a few decades. At this point, with all of man's knowledge and technology, man would not be able to stop such an event from occurring.

Obviously people are not reading this thread properly and they are jumping to conclusions.

I feel the need to clarify the ideas here.

We are not discussing murder and genocide, we are discussing how to slow the increase in population over time.

This could be done through force or through education, and clearly, education is the better option.

It is a fact that this planet cannot sustain the numbers we currently have.
As population increases, land available for agriculture diminishes. This is a FACT, not up for debate and not open to question. Unless you imagine a world with an annex, or you plan to build a greenhouse on the Moon, you have to accept this as a fact. THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH LAND.

In addition to this, manufacturing and industrial production has to increase to meet demand, again using space and resources. Again, this is not a debatable issue, it is a fact.

As the Human race increases, requirement for farming increases, again using space that would also be needed for crops and land for housing and growth of communities.

There is only so much space, only so much workable land, only so much coal in the Earth, only so much Oil...

We already have billions of people without adequate access to food and clean water, medical treatment and housing, where do you suppose we can magically create all of this in increasing numbers when we are already failing to meet current demand?

This thread is about how to change the Human race so that we do not continue to breed at the rate we are currently.
It is not, I REPEAT NOT! about killing people.

Got it? Good.

/rant

Edit:
I think the fact that this is in the NWO section is confusing people. The discussion is automatically being assumed as something it isn't.
Although it's not my call, I would suggest moving it to another section where emotive and knee-jerk responses are less likely.
I have to say though, I am shocked at the inability of many to understand the basic argument. Why is it so hard to distinguish population control from mass murder? They are two very different things.

[edit on 26-5-2009 by detachedindividual]

Any form of population control is a homicidal affair. When you give an entity this kind of power it will be abused. Just look what China did to babies born to families that had more than the allowed number of children. An injection of iodine to the child’s soft spot was used to kill it, the parents were then locked up.

Only an idiot would consider giving this type of power away. The whole of Human existence will be a very short lived affair we should allow all that can to live while the living is good. In reality the population has only reached its current highs due to an overabundance of available energy (fossil fuels), when it is exhausted and no other substitute is available one could expect the population to shrink back down. That said necessity is the mother of all invention, and we humans may well prosper and overcome. Then again we may find out just how insignificant the human animal really is. In any case depopulation is not required nature takes care of this just fine. We can’t hurt this world only our selves, the world will adapt to anything that we can throw at it. You need to remember that 98% of all the species that have ever existed are now extinct and that this world once had an atmosphere with almost no oxygen whatsoever. The plates subside and the whole of the world is recycled in time.

It’s a horrible notion friend. Increases in the human population will result in us reaching to the stars for resources, and is the only real option for the survival of the human race.

Alright. I am prepared to be flamed and burned, so be it. I feel that it is important to address this subject.

This planet needs depopulation.

There are getting too many humans. We pollute, abuse nature, overpopulate and kill each other.

Many humans don't adapt to their environment at all. Many humans don't work with nature – they work against nature. Many humans create nothing but misery and pollution around them, infecting and destroying this planet. All of this because of humankind's enormous greed to hold illimitable dominion over everything.

This planet is dying because of humankind's greed.

Also, if you want to resist the New World Order, breeding is the last thing you need.

Those of us who don't have children right now, are less vulnerable. Those of you who want to have children now, will be making yourselves extra vulnerable to NWO, because of the "extra luggage" you will be carrying. Just imagine the "Alright alright! I'll do anything - just don't hurt my children!!!" scenario. Oh and we have to remember that back then, in Communist countries such as Russia, North Korea and China, there were cases of brainwashed children (brainwashed by Communist school propaganda) who were turning their own parents in to the authorities because their parents were not Communist enough.

Oh and there are about seven billion humans on this planet. It's quite enough. The survival of the species is secured, even though if some of us choose not to have children.

So, wake up people. "Eat, Survive and Reproduce" tactic won't help you against the NWO. You must be smarter than that.

It's not about killing the humans that are already here - its' about stopping with all the breeding for a while. It's about teaching the humans that are already here to respect Earth and each other.

If there will be less humans on this planet, the human life, nature, animals and environment will be valued greatly. There will be whole new kind of respect of treating things, nature and each other.

But today, the human life, nature, animals and environment are being p*ssed on.

Peace,
Mulder

I so agree with you. there are too many people on this planet. we need birth control now. we need a maximum of two kids per couple or 1 kid per single. only reproduce to copy yourself - no more. so we can stabilize the population. fewer people will have more resources to share and will live a happier, and more luxuriant lifestyle too. we could organise things on this planet so well, but people cant seem to see past their own greed. greed helps no one. greed will ruin this planet.

we should get the worlds top scientists to assess how many people this planet can comfortably support; and then through education, get people to aim for this through birth control etc. we have to leave room for animals and large tracts of wilderness so we dont throw nature out of balance; and because we WANT to see wilderness and animals in the wild - look at our obsession with wildlife documentaries. people WANT to see nature from time to time. they want to know its there. but we have to leave large tracts undisturbed totally - just for the animals and plants; and not for us, via ecotourism. not EVERYTHING is about humans. altho most of us seem to think it is. we share this planet with other species including many intelligent species. yet many humans show them no respect at all and give them no rights. why shouldnt animals have rights too? this self centered approach was maybe necessary when humans were struggling to survive against mountain lions, but now that we're the dominant species we need to start thinking of other animals and taking care of them and the planet, for our OWN sake and our kids' sakes.

we cant over fish the oceans. or kill all the wolves in the forest. with no top predators left, the nature cycle is broken and the environment itself begins to deteriorate. we NEED these top predators for our own survival and the planets.

speaking of greed, that basically is the philosophy behind global capitalisim. consume more and more goods, so entrepreneurs and businesses can make more and more money. its a never ending cycle of consumption and trying to have more stuff than you need or than your neighbour has.

a lot of indigenous cultures find this approach bizarre and i kind of have to agree iwth them. the lapplanders when they had a surplus of reindeer or whatever would SHARE the surplus for no money, with others. for us, rich businessesmen strive to get a surplus so they can keep the millions in their paypacket rising and buy 10 new cars they dont need. no wonder no one's happy.

global capitalism works by going into a country like philippines or india; changing tastes through advertising; making consumers want western goods; and changing tastes so they want KFC or maccas, and then what happens is animal production goes into mass production. for lapplanders they now have to truck reindeers to slaughterhouses which is inefficient. before they would kill them with a knife to the back of the head and they died instantly with no struggling. it leads to animal mass production which like in teh case of caged chicken farms and pig farms, can be very cruel.

not only that, it creates poverty in these countries, since they are forced to sign agreements to take huge numbers of imports -e.g. in the philippines - in some cases importing more vegetables than the country grows. this ruins the small farmers of the country and creates poverty. added to loans from the world bank etc, the country becomes debt ridden and crippled economically; and poverty goes through the roof. but multinat corporations benefit from the forced iimport agreements and get to sell huge numbers ofmass produced chickens, pigs etc; and mass produced, less healthy, vegetables; and seeds which are probably gm and therefore not really good either.

and its all based on greed.

if we go intot hese countries we should be trying to bring them the good points of western society; like belief in human rights/womens rights etc; which does happen; but unfortunately, it happens against a backdrop of escalating poverty which actually erodes these rights.

I AGREE!! People that have 3,4,5, or more kids are sooooo God DAMNED irresponsible! They don't think. They don't care, they're too busy shopping in their big SUVs and giving each of their 5 kids cell phones and iPods to shut them up. The Mormons are AWFUL! Like Marie Osmond, she's on her 7th or 8th kid! Someone should sew her legs shut. Ignorant!

Good to see there are people who agree with me on this. Thanks OP, great post. The unfortunate truth, is that we really only have 2 choices...Genocide and cosmic expansion. Hopefully the latter, but simply not having children isn't going to work. People like sex a bit too much for that to happen.

doesnt china have some sort of birth policy ie one couple one child . if the world followed suite then in 80yrs or so the population will of halved that doesnt include the amount of people fashionably batting for the same team . im sure ive seen somewhere that 1 in 3 san franciscans is gay [ and before the rants come in im not anti gay]the problem is if you half the populace in as little as 80yrs then who will be left to support the ageing populace? the economys of the world would collapse . the only reason this subject has never been publicly broached by the west is that it would finish them.as anybody who has tried to play a real time strategy game will tell you, man power wins every time

Well....... we can fit the population of the world inside of Texas (just an example of numbers-to- world size);

Thanks to capitalism and free markets..... and people who care about the planet, America's air is cleaner now than it was before the industrial revolution. Over the past 25 years particulate matter in the air has been reduced by 85%

Those who would agree that we need to reduce the population would fit in well with the ideas tossed about in the early 70's by Obamas buddy, Bill Ayers, whose Socialist plan for America was to kill off all those who didn't believein, and work towards, Socialism. Liberals.... aren't they a fun lot?

Once again, it isn't the countries like China, or the U.S. that is the problem, it is the third world nations which are driving world population. The developed nations have birth rates below sustainability, which means their populations will continue to drop. Intelligent responsible people should continue to have children.

When you send money to charity to help starving kids in these third world nations, all you are doing is insuring that even more starving children will be born to live in terrible poverty. Your charity not only increases the numbers of future starving children, it also creates more war, more brutality.

If parents can afford to raise their kids properly, as Marie can, so be it. You'd be better off complaining about Arabs and Mexicans, and all those on Welfare, who have children so their government check is larger each year.

As per your example, think of all the jobs she helps save.... those who make products to make clothes and those who make them, grow food,
deliver it to market, and those who stock and bag it. Those who produce parts to build cars, and who build the cars themselves; companies and workers who make diapers right down to those who work where they are disposed of.. and so much more. Didn't think about them, did 'ya?

In answer to my question about the disposal of human waste, Solomon says, “make compost”.
This is an excellent idea whose time has come. It takes about 2 years to thoroughly decompose. Now to sell the idea to the public. A whole new industry could be built around this. There are already composting toilets, but they are very expensive. Some Asian countries have been doing this for thousands of years. I don’t think they bother making compost.

Mystiq says that solutions are at hand and have been proven to work, but are not being used.
So why exactly are they not being used? Who is it that seems to enjoy turning the planet into a chemical wasteland?

Scope & Beam says that depopulation is genocide. Yes indeed and so are Wars. I am puzzled that there is not as much outrage generated over the ongoing and continuous wars as there is over the depopulation subject of this thread. Where exactly do you see a difference?

Please take note that there is nothing in this thread discussing means of killing any one.

I find it odd that the opponents of reducing the Earth’s population have nothing to offer in defense of their position other than emotional opinion. They have no sound reasons for their idea that humans should just keep on reproducing.

Incredibly there are still people who seem to want horizon to horizon housing developments. Never, ever do they do the simplest of logistics. They seem to be in favor of wiping out all other species on Earth.
Sadly they have not done the research that shows how much we need those other species for our own survival.

I am a nature lover and it pains me greatly to see housing developments eating up farm land (some of our best ag land). It is infinitely refreshing to stand on a high point and see nothing but trees and hills all the way to the horizon. To see nothing but roof tops and high rises buildings would be the stuff of nightmares.

ledhead says: “Good to see there are people who agree with me on this. Thanks OP, great post. The unfortunate truth, is that we really only have 2 choices...Genocide and cosmic expansion. ***Why do you limit our choices to only 2? This is an extremely narrow view.
Take some time to find choices. You many surprize yourself at the number of choices that you can come up with.. Cosmic expansion is not anywhere in the near future, so you can just forget that as any solution to the immediate problem.

Education will not work. It is too late for that. It is the continued irresponsible breeding which will make it necessary for government to do something drastic, like forced sterilization.

I see from the many posts in these last pages that you folks did not look at that the most informative video on page 7 of this thread.
Examine the Facts.
Do the math.

OK all you naysayers answer this question which was posed in the vid.

What good will come from continued population growth?

In what way will your life be better when there are 12 billion people on Earth?
Will your life be even better when there are 30 billion people on Earth?

I totally agree.

Let's start with you, your mother, your father, your wife, your kids, your cousins, your nieces and nephews as well as all your grandchildren.

Don't bother Spooky Fox... this crowd can be so ignorant when it comes to these hot button topics. They don't take the time to read the thread, instead they just write out a post in a fury. They often don't even read the initial post...

After you've finished articulating your thoughts to someone who flamed you, another 4 people will jump in and start the process all over. You'll end up talking in circles and wasting your time.

If the Earth is dying, how can human life continue?
How can the Earth be more important than humans?
If humans are more important than they Earth how can they continue to live?
You have not read the thread either.

Ofhumandescent, Why do you refuse to read the posts in the thread?

Read them and count the number of times it has been stated that nothing here advocates killing anyone.

Why do you refuse to understand this?

Fewer people means fewer cross cutting cleavages, which in turn means more direct conflicts and cleavages, and in turn more war. That leads to more death, more famine, more unfairness, and more dumb proles being sent off to die in dumb wars.

GOOD JOB! you just failed basic US and Comparative government.
