150,000 foreigners swell UK workforce: Record number get permits as Britons lose jobs

Ministers were criticised last night for issuing a record 151,635 work permits to foreigners as Britain slid into recession.

The document lets non-EU workers take or keep jobs here, even though hundreds of thousands of Britons are losing theirs.

Unemployment rose by 290,000 in the same period, from December 1, 2007 to November 30, 2008, to reach 1.92m - the most since September 1997. Up to 2,500 workers a day are losing their jobs.

As Britain enters recession, with 2,500 Britons losing their jobs a day (290,000 losing jobs between December 1 2007-30 November 2008) and estimates of 600,000 possible job losses in 2009 a whooping 150,000 foreigners recieved job permits.

Will the British government develop a set and declare that "immigrants do the jobs native Britons don't do" is just utter trash? Or even that immigration amounts to nothing more thanthe demographic replacement of indigenous whites, for a permanently Labour voting public ?

I see the BNP coming to power very soon

I am all for letting foreigners coming to this country if they want to actually work. But NOT, if doing so denies British people jobs. No offence, but each country needs to think of itself first. Don't give others jobs, when our own people need them.


Labour seems to enjoy being hated...this must be a nice big step for them...

It's like the British government is looking at how badly illegal immigration is hurting the US and is getting jealous.

There must be some game to this. Somehow the government gains from having so many of its populace out of work. I don't pretend to understand how the British government works, but there must be SOME explanation (seedy or not) behind such a surprisingly bad decision.

Poor Brits means less resources to start a revolution against the govt.
I can imagine a group of Brits putting money together to buy a handgun.

Seriously, I think its a good way to blame on foreigners for the Brits problems. What better way to get the populace support for their agendas.

It means more taxes. The more people we have the more tax money the government gets. And with this current economy, they want that extra money,,,even at the expense of their own people....

I can't see them being voted to power again for quite some time after the next election.

The game to this? The explanation? Well I have an idea on this and it's a conspiracy theory for sure. The government over here in the UK is Labour. Well I once read that 60 to 70% of ethnic minority voters tend to vote Socialist time and time again. By letting more and more in surely Labour are cementing their future hold over the UK. The more ethnics the more they get votes.

i wonder how soon it will be before job riots break out...

Well, the British government is doing to you on a smaller scale to what the US government is doing to it's citizens!

Now, that's just the ILLEGAL immigrants!

The only real answer to why this is occurring is that business interests want cheap labor. Sad that our governments would sell our way of life for the interests of the free market.

Too true Hunka. You go back two hundred years here in the UK and the governments role was to defend us from ourselves and foreign invasion. How times change! Now the country of Great Britain is one big corporation, it's a business and anything that stands in the way of growing GDP is rolled over. At the same time one can't ignore the fact that 60 to 70% of ethnics vote socialist time and time again. The more they let in the more they'll get votes!

Unemployed people are reliant on Government benefits to survive, so are unlikely to turn on Labour who are more than happy to ramp up the Public debt paying people to sit on their arses and do nothing.

It is a fallacy that we "needed" the immigration to fill vacancies as even before the recession kicked in, we had 1.7 unemployed and a further 2 million or so out of work due to "incapacity", of which at least 3/4's could actually go to work.

Problem is, the Government is quite happy to have masses of people reliant on State Aid as it means votes when they promise benefit increases.

Why should the lazy bums care about who's actually going to pay off the debt the Government racks up? After all, they are usually generationally unemployed and are a litteral drain on resources, rather than ever having contributed to the economy in any meaningful way.

Here is an example of the inbred, unemployed cretins that have done next to bugger all work in their lives. Would you believe she has never worked a day in her life because she gets "panic attacks"....

I agree, I've lurked for a time now and if there's one country in Europe where nationalism seems to be particularly on the rise, it is Britain. Please try to stay aware of what happened in Germany when Jews were scape-goated for the economic crisis. For a long time we have thought such a thing could never happen again, but with time passing by, it could easily happen again.

Right Wing parties are actually much more popular in places such as Austria, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. In each of these countries, Far-right groups which are more extreme than the BNP actually hold Parliamentary seats. In the case of France, one far right party successfully got a candidate into the final round of the Presidential election.

Far-right politics have never been that popular in the UK. Even during the Great depression and the run up too WW2, the fascists struggled for widespread support.

As i see it one of the reasons they are allowing so many into our country is to water down the population and help reduce the anti EU feelings within our country so when they go to enter the euro ect there will be less resistance
