US calls for Gaza ceasefire

uk.news.yahoo.com

The US has called for an "immediate" ceasefire in Gaza after 40 Palestinians were reported dead in an Israeli strike at a United Nations-run school.

The US State Department said the ceasefire should be "durable, sustainable and not time limited".

The latest round of deaths came as hundreds of terrified Palestinians were taking shelter at al-Fakhora school in Jabalya refugee camp after fleeing fierce fighting between Israeli soldiers and Hamas fighters

Just a few days ago the US was saying the opposite - and now after this attack , where 40 have been killed and the second UN run school (along withe the American Internation School earlier) today they have finally joined the call for STOP THE DAMN KILLING.

NOW is the time to stop the killing in the Gaza Ghetto - the civilians have no where to run , Egypt have shut the border on one side , and the IDF surrond the rest firing.

STOP THE DAMN KILLING.

Looks like the Israeli actions are even starting to turn the stomach of Bush. Can you imagine that?

Must be terrible in Gaza and you know the Yanks have been observing with satellites so there must have been bust ups and outrage in the monitoring centres.

Thats true, the people watching the live feeds must be witnessing some horrible things if its enough to get lame duck bush to change his tune- when it all comes out in the wash bush doesn't want to be linked to anything TOO terrible.

Don't sound no different than a few days ago. It is just a play on words. They are still saying that a ceasefire must be sustainable and durable. Since that criteria cannot be met at this time that means keep going.

The US State Department said the ceasefire should be "durable, sustainable and not time limited".

US President George W Bush has insisted that any ceasefire to end the Gaza crisis must include provisions to prevent Hamas from continuing to use the coastal strip to fire rockets into Israel.

I don't see anything there that's different from yesterday, or the day before. The cease-fire will only work if Hamas stops shooting rockets.
