This country goes through economic down turns about every 10-12 years?

Hmmm, and look at the sway of things lately. Reagan and Bush 41, economy tanks. 10-12 years later Clinton, Economy sky rockets. 10-12 years later Bush, tank. I don't think 10-12 years passing is why the economy tanks...

There are 2 Americas, with almost an exact 50/50 split in the way they fundamentally see how things should be.

Perhaps we shouldn't partition Iraq, perhaps we should partition our own country, because right now half the country is ecstatic and the other half is about ready to slit its wrists.

Now especially with a Democratic House majority, that whole neo-con movement is essentially dead. Guantanamo will be shut down, terrorism will no longer be pursued to the extent that it has been over the past eight years, and foreign policy will simmer, further ensuring safety from radicals of that part of the world both domestically and abroad.

[edit on 5-11-2008 by cognoscente]

What makes you think that not fighting terrorism will make us safe from 'radicals' ? Apparently you have NO idea why 'radicals' want to kill us. They want to kill us not be cause of our foreign policy or because of anything we did. They want to kill us because their holy book and their religion tell them to! Its as simple as that. BTW I put radicals in parentheses because its more accurate to call terrorists what they really are: Fundamentalists.
And please no one start that racist BS. I'm talking about a religion, not a race. And I'm not even talking about everyone in that religion, just the ones who blow people and stuff up.

I feel you... With those extreme gestures it is logical to get scared.
I think it is time the whole world switches to another form of energy. I for one believe that the technology to produce free energy is out there but the reason why we don't use it is because whole economies are built on producing fossil fuels.....
Lets hope we switch to a far better form of energy soon!

Hey...you are a slave to a monetary system just like the rest of us. Dont you people get it anymore?!?! it doesnt matter who the president is...all these tax issues are moot and just a distraction. You wanna worry about your kids? What about martial law, all the crap they put in our meat and produce, and the rising rate of OBESITY due to the fast food nation?!?! What about these issues which dont disappear every 4 years but only get worse? They all want your money, not just Obama or Bush or Mccain...the corporations, the pharmaceutical companies and even your neighbor want to bankrupt you. This goes for all of us...we are in one large game of monopoly and the creators want us to fight over who wants to play bank. Stop fighting with each other over BS partisan politics and ideals which do not properly represent a free country.

Their religion does not tell them to do that any more then the Bible tells Christians to bomb hospitals that perform abortions. The reason AQ and Osama endorsed McCain was because he not only wanted to keep Iraq going but wanted to attack Iran. These have been Osama Bin Laden's Pearl Harbor. With out these he and the AQ would not have as many members. Every time America shoots a civillian, the family joins AQ. Every time America bombs a school killing children the parents join AQ. If America stops doing that you stop the recruiting process of AQ.

The country slipped away when the Federal Reserve Act was signed in 1916, giving complete control of government to financial interests. A bit late in condemning the nation now, 92 years later.

What I find is funny is the fact that the Republicans are sounding like the Democrats in 2000, only that election was stolen, Obama won by a landslide! Quit whining, you should just deal with it the way we had to when Gore lost. I personally think Obama will be a GREAT president. I loved his speech last night, he looked very humble. I wish everyone would quit thinking he's going to be the downfall of America, we wouldn't have very far to fall anyhow after having Bush for 8 yrs.

Obama/Biden 08

Gateway, you seem to think yourself an educated man (?), but your statements on anarchy, and socialism are fudamentaly wrong. Anarchy originated from the communist party during the mid 18 th century. According to Marx, anarchy was supposed to be the end result and objective of a communist state (read Marx, this is explicit).

No wrong dead wrong, my sex-pistol friend. The term anarchy was not created by Marx. Marx who was a complete moron and lacked any understanding in economics, stole a term that had long existed before he took it and corrupted its meaning. The left, has always been good at taking words and proclaiming it as their own, like the word liberalism. Now we have to use the term "Classical Liberal" to refer to its original intent. Anarchy is the absence of state, and therefore with that excepted meaning, and hence its original intent, the existence of NO STATE; it therefore cannot interfere in the lives of those that wish to trade. Without a state we therefore have a free people and capitalism, true-free capitalism. Not communism; unless those that participate in this system decide to live in a commune state where all is shared, and even then, this is done so through FREE WILL AND ASSOCIATION. Communism on the other hand, does not try to accomplish this, it tries to do this through SHEAR FORCE, since man does not want what he owns take and redistributed. People will have to be killed, the great PURGE of Stalin, Mao, Castro are few that come to mind. I'm not talking about billionaires, I'm talking about general people who own small business, or own their home, or wish to move somewhere else. Communism requires complete and utter subjugation to its will. Since millions of people cannot possibly agree on everything for everyone, it requires a MASSIVE STATE to direct every facet of life, from production, education, social interaction, and so on.

Communism is the complete opposite, since it requires a mass state directing the means of production. You cannot have Anarchy and a Massive State at same time, this is a complete contradiction. The term anarchy has always existed to describe, a LACK of central state. In communism where ALL individual DESIRES AND WANTS must be suppressed so that everyone is equal; REQUIRES again, a MASSIVE STATE apparatus to distribute this impossible task.

Get your head-out of 18th century Marx, there are more enlightened individuals to read from. The Austrians, wiped the floor with his book, they ripped to shreds his labor theory, and the existence of a large central planning state's ability to coordinate all of the means of production.

Simply put...WOW. The economy flourished in Clinton's era due to the Reagan/Bush policies. Are you that uneducated to think that Clinton just walked into the office and the economy was off and running? Again, WOW. And if you paid attention to anything other than bleaching your hair, you'd have noticed that the economy was "tanking" prior to Clinton's departure. Or his ineptness regarding terrorism. So I guess all that was GW's fault too. Let me guess, you are a product of the great America public school system; am I right? Please do us, the so-called minority, a favor and don't propagate. That would only add to the misery.

You people amaze me. I've looked through this thread and there are only a couple of actually intelligent posts (see above).

The original poster needs to learn to seperate "Socialism" and "Communism". They are not one in the same. I could explain, but obviously, you have the internets too.

It seems that the majority of people on this board are either children with no life experience to draw their opinion from, or extremely uneducated, unintelligent, bigoted adults with plenty of experience to draw from, thus leaving you no excuse.

Face it, you're afraid. We have the first black president. A lot of you probably don't see a whole lot of black people where you live. You're also afraid of something different, which Obama is, very much so. But Christ, do you really think we can go on beating the same dead horse? Do we need more of the same for what, 8 more years? Something drastic needs to change and it needs to change now. The last 8 years have dragged the United States through the mud on the world stage. Old allies have distanced themselves and old enemies have found ways to get closer to us. We've had the first, large scale "terrorist" attack on American soil. Our DOW has fallen to the lowest level since 2003, and our economy has slowed more than any time in the last 15-20 years.

Is this the course we want to stay?

It is a shame that someone would cast their vote simply because the candidate shares their skin color. It's dispicable. All this talk about "taking a huge step forward" regarding race relations in this country is BS. It would have been a huge step if we voted based on the man, not the ethnicity. It would have been a huge step if we didn't beat "race" into the ground after the election. It would have been a huge step if we just did it and didn't pat ourselves on the back for doing so after the fact. Yes we've come a long way. Yes, it's a great thing. Leave it at that.

You people just look for a reason to be afraid. It's really unfortunate that you can't be happy unless you're unhappy. You folks really need to get out and enjoy life...Get off the internet, stop the video games, get outside and go for a walk...or god forbid...a run.

Try to expand your narrow little minds.

Give it a chance. If in two years all of our incomes are taxed 10% to spread the wealth for the "greater good", our economy has crashed and the soup lines are wrapped around the block longer than the election lines 2 years prior, I'll be wrong, but I'll also be on my way to becoming a Canadian citizen. But I don't think so. I think you're about to see something great...

McCain was gracious in defeat, it is a damn shame that his supporters can't find it in themselves to be the same. Can we please put the hate aside for a while and try to unite as a country?

I think you're making an incorrect assumption here.

Just because someone is scared to death of Obama and what he will do to this country does not mean that they are a McCain supporter.

I didn't like either of those guys, but those are the choices that the media decided we would have. They even told us who they wanted to win, and we happily went along with it. I think it's pathetic that out of all the people in this country, it came down to those two. And ultimately, the people decided that a first term senator was qualified for this job. Can I have some of what they're smoking?

I am fearful for the future, and that is my right. I hope to God that I am wrong. I am jealous of all the Obama supporters, with their unbridled optimism. I wish I could feel that, but my gut tells me otherwise. Watching that crowd last night, I was waiting for someone to shout "Heil!!"

And by the way, you mentioned stopping the hate...

The way I feel is not motivated by any kind of hate. It's fear. I am fearful of the mindset of America that treats this man like he floated down on a cloud like the second coming of Jesus or something. He came out of nowhere just a short time ago, there is a lot that we don't know about him, every negative thing about him has either been spun by the media or deemed "racist" to talk about.

It used to be in this country that we could disagree with politicians just because we disagreed with politicians. Now if we disagree with this black politician, it's because of race. It's "hate speech." No. It's disagreement with his policies and personal beliefs.

You know I guess I missed how great things are in my community. You must live in a very nice part of the US. People where I live they are not enjoying life they work 12-14hrs a day to pay for the million plus home they thought would prove they are living the dream. Our forefathers have been crying since 1913 when we sold our country to a bunch of private bankers. I spent 13 years went through every conflict from 1988 to 2001 before I woke up and realized that people only appriciate the military and the sense of freedom they have on two days. Veterans day and 4th of July. And now those are big shopping days to spend your hard earned loot.

Have you spent any time in middle east? Those people didn't want us their we forced ourselves on them because the wall went down and we had no bad guy to fight. Plus Saddam would not value his oil on the dollar. Do you know which countries don't value oil on the dollar, I'm sure you do. But just in case Iraq, Iran and Venezuela. Look up the last five countries that don't have a central bank. Maybe this is about money and control just like everything else. And one thing I'm sure of is that Obama didn't get 630 million 10 dollars at a time.

Yeah real sad and pathetic, didnt Bush do the same thing. I for one feel like Obama was the lesser of two evils by a long shot. Plus we dont have to look at the inept crook Palin all the time. If he had lost we would still be hearing about how the world will end, Im sure some of you had your rants all typed up and waited to see what name to put at the top as the doom bringer. And who cares if Obama wears a friggin pin with the flag on it, second I dont really agree with the fact that he didnt pledge allegence to the flag, but a lot of people dont-are they non patriotic, no its just disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for the people who defend our country, but I along with a lot of people have become embarrased by what our flag has come to represent in recent history. True patriots dont need a piece of cloth, they need land and family. Obama doesnt have to pledge alegence to the flag at every opportunity, as if by law, as long as he is able to uphold what the people under that flag put him in office to do.

What I find hilarious about the whole thing is when people are like"96% of blacks in Virginaia voted for him, I'll bet my soul it's because he's black!!!" And then you look at 2004, and the democratic candidate garnered like 85% of the black vote. And Kerry sucked. Minorities historically vote democrat, and now the consevatives will just CRY and CRY about racism. It's not racism, it's the continuation of existant trends.
