Quoting scripture is hardly going to cut any ice here, is it? Only a Christian would regard that source as authoritative.

Wikipedia is a "Christian source"?? Hmm, that's odd. I never knew that.

en.wikipedia.org...

Christianity is a monotheistic religion[1] centered on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth as presented in the New Testament.[2]

Silly me!!! I figured when it says being a "Christian" means following the "teachings" of Jesus CHRIST as "presented" in the "New Testament".

Thanks for pointing out how utterly foolish I was to look at Jesus's New Testament teachings.

Isn't amazing that so many people automatically assume that people who are agnostic = atheist, and the atheist = communist?

A communist may be an atheist, but an atheist may not be a communist , a statement and a fact that many people can't seem to comprehend.

An atheist is just someone who does not believe in any deity or deities, not the communist dogma of trying to ban religions by punishing or killing anyone caught in their society practicing these religious faith which ignorant people insist is somehow an indispensible part of being an atheist.

Many of them don't seem to realize that there are many atheist who aren't communist and dislike communism as much as they dislike certain religions.

Don't let them anger you to the extend of considering coummnism, or you may end up following yet another dogma.

To attract less attention or trouble from the extremeist theist or the die hard communist, just tell them that you are a spiritual person who prefers to seek out the answers by yourself.

If they perist in knowing your stand on believing in God or not, tell them that you have no comment or it's personal and that you wish to keep it that way.

That is absolute nonsense. Not a single post here said he was communist. He asked for examples and we mentioned a few. I am sure a socialist or a capitalist can athiest too. It just so hapens that the examples posted had communist tones to them

No, they said "please don't", not "why are you". Meaning don't embrace it ever in the future. I don't read that post as them claiming you previously have my friend.

Good for you but the tone was very rushed as if telling me to back away from communism immediately, if you read otherwise that's up to you. Afterall why even mention that if they thought i wasn't turning communist? Actually why do people immediately hear atheist and communist in the same sentence? Seems a little unfair, like if i heard muslim and thought terrorist, would be kind of wrong.

I never once mentioned it together. I just mentioned that Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge performed mass murder and torture often in the name of athiesm. I am not into the world of sticky logic that is concrete and one faced.

A can equal B but that doesn't mean A DOES equal B

Good for you, like what NOTurTypical said, I was just worried that the episode that you experienced may have pushed you to the other opposite extremist end to the religious fundamentalist.

More importantly, your reply shows that being an atheist does not automatically equal being a communist, same as being an agnostic doesn't automatically equals an atheist, something which the ignorant try so hard to combine. (sorry for the confusion, I was directing the point at them.)

This is very appearent in the many postings from other people in this thread trying to tie the atheist and the communist as one and the same.

To make things even easier for them, it is like saying that all theists are automatically muslim which is false because a theists can be of any of the other religious sects, eg christian, judaism, buddhist, etc. etc. and not be muslim.

The only thing they have in common is that they believe in the existence of a deity or deities. To pin a particular dogma of a particular theist sect eg. such as maybe "it is alright to kill unbelievers" as an indispensable part of being a theist is extremely Ignorant.

Bottom line is, there are a lot of Ignorant people around, they have much fear and hate in them, try not to let them influence you too negatively with their actions and their words as they may come from very inaccuate and unreliable assumtions and sources.

Many of them are oppose to everyone and anyone who isn't part of their exact sect, from religious zealots to the communist.

There are still alot of good people on all sides. (theist, atheist and everything else in between)

my 2 cents.

P.S. sorry for the misunderstanding and the making use of you and your thread to highlight my points, I hope that I have cleared it up.

I agree, maybe it's a deficiency on their part, and true possibly a read that wrong.

Not all communists were atheists, and not all atheists believe in communism obviously. I think the person was just warning you not to embrace that political ideology. I dunno.

Lol well no worry there, communism and socialism as macro applied governments are doomed to failure.
